SEN is not restrict. Cept sometimes a certain mod gets mad because I havent read all the tutorials before posting on map making assisstance.

After all, assasstance is assisstance...  disgust.gif  disgust.gif  disgust.gif  disgust.gif  disgust.gif

It's only in huge font when you are posting your topic...

If you need Mapping Assistance, make sure you have checked the tutorials to see if it's been answered, or search the forums. It's not that hard. But people are still posting in assistance. I'm not too hard on them tongue.gif

PS: I'm not a mod closedeyes.gif

As a matter of fact, I think we allow more freedom then most other sites. We program things so that most forum plagues are impossible (no topic resurrection, no double posting, etc). I'd say SEN forums are much more attractive then other forums I know of.

Well, the forums here do feel different in some way from all other SC forums for some reason...hmm....

Ok, as this topic appears to have become a place to vent our minor irritations, I have a couple of little complaints...

1. Topic locking seems to have gone into overdrive recently. The topics being locked haven't really affected me, but they look so ugly in the forum list! If you're going to keep locking topics at this rate, please do away with that unholy strike-through, it burns my eyes! tongue.gif

2. The seriousness of punishments has also gone up. Ok, so I haven't done anything to get a punishment, but I've seen people get the internet equivalent of the death penalty (a ban or account deletion) for flouting the rules a couple of times.

3. Yeah finally, some of the recent topic lockings have been a little perplexing. I give the example of the topic about racism which was started by the now-banned nike (who I'm assuming was black, seeing as he claimed to be). The topic was turning into an interesting discussion about racism and discrimination, when it was suddenly locked for being racist. Wtf? Talking about racism and racist terms is not being racist, it's called metalinguistics (good word, that), or the study of language and its uses.

I remember the days when people just let topics die quietly rather than locking them at the slightest hint of law-breaking behaviour. Now, I know that SEN and SC's popularity (especially with the pre and early teens) makes it a spamzone, and I appreciate the difficult job that the admins and mods have in curbing some of the major offenders, but sometimes it would be better to calm down a little. If we don't have a certain degree of tolerance towards the activities of regulars and other frequent posters, then the spirit of community here will never be very strong.

Oh, and I have a suggestion too:
You could have a Trashcan Forum where all the locked topics get moved, so they don't clog up the other boards (You would have to somehow have to remove all trace of the topic from the forum that it was originally in though - or it would defeat the point of the Trashcan Forum).

Thanks,

Thats a pretty good idea I'd have to say, and one of the best given by a fellow member. We could have something like Thread Moved to TrashForum. instead of completely removing the thread from regular forums. People would like to see why threads got locked and maybe read a couple of posts that they missed. If you remove all traces, they would think it got deleted.

There are only ..hm.. zero things I disagree with on SEN. If I were to have all the coding that SEN has, I doubt I would change very much.

I agree.
This site is the best that I have seen as far as a balance between god-Modding(lol) and leniance with members. Other sites are either too leniant, and so they die, wallowing in their own spam. Otherwise, they're too strict, and no one likes the site anyways.
As for signature restrictions, I think 600x200 is pretty good size.
God, at Battleforums there's this guy with a page-frickin'-high signature!
And if you can't do much with 200 pixels, then you need to get better at making small pictures.

no i think they are just trying to keep this forum from crashing i think they are fair even tho i dont get the sig limit but its there rules and well i don't think theres a thing you can do about it sry..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-02-25 at 22:20:08
The sig limit is there because on most forums they put wall papers as posts, which half the time the members don't even post one or two lines. Makes it a total waste of space. Here, you dont have the scroll down so far.

hmm i understand and wtf is up with your sig its just white -_-

HAHAH! A YOSHI GETTING INCINERATED IS SO FUNNY!!!! LOLLOLOLOLOL!!!!

Jokes with puns are funny. Making a Yoshi (refering to Yoshi da Sniper) catching on fire and burning to death is not.

idk why u think its funny if you thought it was an insult.....czechs are complicated.....O ITS SARCASM! durr tongue.gif besides thats not cool czech and lebanon are pretty close, i showed yoshi already, and that means hes like my cousin (of another race)

and no its not too strict, its kept like starcraft is kept, PG-13, the same rating as SC is the same level of tolerance
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-02-25 at 23:11:25
First off, SEN is a much higher quality site. We don't want people who post crap like "LOLOLOL!!!!!11ONE", have avatars filling half the screen, make posts composed entirely of smilies, or have signatures that I have to press the Page Down key 6 times to get through. If you want to waste time on huge images, go to some kiddie site where I'm sure there's hundreds of users there just like you.

Trashcan Idea: I actually thought about this as there is an option in the admin cp to do this, but isn't that what garbage is? I know there could be definite positives, but I don't know if it's worth another crap forum.

I hate the strike through for locked topics as well. The strike through does make it an obvious "not a legit topic anymore"... but what would be better? What about like light-gray (with italics?)?

Well, before i go ahead and do my thing

Sen:
Anarcism-------------Free world----------Your house at 5----------Communist------Nazi
00000000000

I personally believe that Sen is one of the greatest sites to use starcraft for. I have seen that each map must be aproved, and that each tutorial is also reviewed. Unlike Starcraft.org (no offense) Anyone can post a tutorial. I saw a tutorial for 'A burrowed Hatchery' People had Multiple Accounts, and were using them to quickly override a person in the polling comments by having somethin like this
Person: i believe this
Enemy: I don't
Enemy's second account: I don't
etc.etc. I also believe that Sen Is a littleRestrictive at times. This IS a 13+ furoms. I see no problem with having Sweraing Not beeped out [cept F**k] the site that other people go to, cant remember what its called... their Garbege Forum Looks like this (no offense, yet again)
PORN ON THE NET
POST YOUR GIRLFRIEND!!!
LOl!!!!111!
LYOGSFHHH!!1!!1
and so on and so forth..

There you have it..

People veiw being too restrictive at differant levels. Even the Mods do.
We try to let everyone have fun and flush the crap at the same time.

I've only really been a heavy member at 3 forums. Battleforums.com Blizzforums.com and now here. I have 1000 post at both those sites but hardly ever go there anymore. Staredit.net is so much better in everyway.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-02-26 at 10:53:33
This website isn't harshly strict. It is strict in many ways, but to everyone's benefit.

And if you notice, most sites around the world are like a dictatorship: the admins are completely numb to their community and do things only to their own selfish wills whereas IP and Yoshi here are really open to us and try to get as much feedback from us as possible. Maybe they aren't "as open" as some of us want them to be but heck, they're doing a pretty good damn job.

And because we're so use to this, we're literally taking this for granted. Some of us think this site should be run COMPLETELY through a democratic system, where everyone's vote counts. But we still have to realize that this is Yoshi and IP's site; their priorities come first.

But yea, about the joke toleration, some of us seem to take them too seriously... i think this criterion should be used when deciding whether a post if funny or not:

1) Does the post contain anything that has to do with your cultural background?
2) Do you see any censored words or any tension?
3) Do you see any sentences or phrases all in caps?
3) Does the post mention anything about your talents or skills?
4) Does the post mention anything negative about your pieces of work?
5) Do you see any flaming?
6) Does the post sound serious when making a post that derides someone/thing?

Those are the important check points i run by when determining the "funniness" of a post.

Well, people wouldn't be able to post in this Trashcan forum, just view. All locked topics would automatically be moved there, and be wiped clear from their original board, to avoid making it look ugly. In response to Beer's earlier comment about people wondering where on Earth their topic went to: If the Trashcan had a description like: 'Wonder where your topic went? Want to see some of the worst posts these forums have to offer? Try looking here.'

Hmm, greying the topics out might be a good idea if you can't just bung them in the bin. That strikethrough is especially annoying when there are a number of locked topics.

Trashcan = bad idea. If someone is looking for help in the assistance forum by seaching posts, they wont find much, because it was all moved.

I'll get locked topics gray and italiced in a sec...

sometimes the mods cant take a joke like some people already said and sometimes they will warn you for reasons that arent in the FAQ pages. other than that, they are not really strict at all and act like a kid with us:P

Show us what kind of joke we warned you for.

Don't tell me you cant find one, because all the posts have been here since the site was created.
