Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> How do you raise unit map max?

Doodads aren't really considered 'sprites' in the game... because you can use 'parts' of doodads to create terrain and also with starforge you can import, export, and create your own doodads. Oh and yes "SOME" of them are considered units/sprites/whatever.

I've played it online with the limit and the game runned FINE. I use Pentium 4 2.6 ghz with a 56k connection. Nothing went wrong lag-wise. o_O

Anyways, I lowered the amount of BUILDINGS. It wasn't massive amounts of units.

WITH SOMEONE ELSE? Also, do a freakin grammar check. "runned" isn't even a word.

Even if you did have a ton of units on the map, it wouldn't lag unless they were all given actions. If you need an example, I'd be happy to give it to you. And it would lag even more in multiplayer anyway.

Not true.

If they did have actions it just makes it worse, even if they dont it still lags.

Actually, that isn't the connection, that's the system specs. A Pentium II on T1 would work better then a Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ system on cable. And that doesn't even factor in the different connections bettween different ISPs.

Love to know how you figure that...

A thing to note with BGH as well is that the crystals count as units, and they lag the game like nothing else. Because the map already has 238 units placed before the game even starts, then added if its a 3v3 instanatly that goes up to 268. By the time all players half their limits you're looking at 800 odd units on the map.

My point being, MR creator of this thread, is that be more creative. I'm sick of seeing maps which just have "select hero" then kill as much of the censored.gif on the map as possible thats been pre-placed.

It's a WWI simulator! What else are you supposed to do? I already put in triggers to start Communism, Paris to capture France, Buckingham Palace destruction to destroy economy, etc. I also put in trenches for strategy and each country has its own pros and cons. it's not a mindless destroy everything map. It has STRATEGY.

I think it's unfair that you guys are just making unfair assumptions about this map. I made it to follow the specification of the REAL WWI, and that DOES need alot of sprites. You guys shouldn't be so critical without even KNOWING what the hell my map IS ABOUT.

All I asked was for some ideas on how to get around it, but then you just have to get critical for something I didn't even ask about. That's NOT the point of this thread or this forum.

I asked something, it obviously did not get solved, so just stop the needless bickering!

Well if you are having a unit cap problem on the map, then it's most likely the map will lag.

Well I was sorta close tongue.gif if you change a couple words in it then it would be right.

Question: What IS the max? Like how many???
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-01-30 at 23:05:46
1260??
That's the X-tra Edit max units. I think.
I think normal SE's max is 250???? for player????.

You can place as many as you want with StarEdit so long as it doesn't pass the player's supply limit, which can easily be disabled anyway with a mod. Most modded SEs have it anyway.

No, you can place moer than the supply limit, as I discovered before. Or is that trigger only?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpaceBoy2000 on 2004-01-31 at 00:00:03
No, there are modded versions that allow to place infinite amount of units. Though I think the unit sprite max is 1024.

I call it a unit map, since, that I know of, you can't place a no-sprite-unit.
And thus you can't make more units than the sprite limit will allow.
