O3 is ozone, it's not meaningless. And it's diminishing due to the presence of HFC. Save the world, people! Turn off your refridgerators!! biggrin.gif

Well, we can make more ozone by passing electricity through oxygen. A hell of a lot of ozone is made during thunderstorms, by the way.

I can guess that the reaction would look something like this:

2O2 + 498kJ (Electrical energy) ---> O3 + O• (free radical)

And waste more resources in the process... yup, we humans are going to kill ourselves (if not conquered by aliens first).

There is a difference between 03 and O3. He and I wrote 03.

I wouldn't worry about it too much - sunlight itself photolyses oxygen into ozone. So long as the sun's there, ozone is being created.

Uh huh, just wake me up from my grave the day that we humans can actually efficiently harvest the sun's energy for our other needs, e.g., electricity.

I say the above comment with the assumption that I will live forever.

Supposedly wind farms are becoming more succesful...
Of course, we have to (through government taxxes) compenstate (sp?) for the people around the wind farms for having to look at the [ugly] wind mills...

Solar panels are now very efficient. Unfortunately they were so rubbish when they first appeared that they got a very bad press which has lingered until today.

And I know a very good application for our newly-born fire.

For their high cost, most people are still reluctant to adopt solar panels. Critics argue that they may not ALWAYS work, e.g., when it's cloudy, but I understand the potential of directly harvesting, well, the earth's direct source of energy.

IP's wind power suggestion is basically another alternative to harvesting energy from the sun, since temperature gradients cause air movements and thus wind. However, it is not as direct as pure solar power.

So, in conclusion, why don't people just quit being stupid and put solar panels on windmills?! confused.gif (© 2005 don't

Yes, people would rather believe in something that they don't have to concentrate on to be able to understand. *cough* religion *cough*
