The trailer was just special effects and massed units. Boom boom here, Flash flash there, slap some teleporting cloaking shotgun wielding defilers in there and Bam, everyone loves it.

It's the overall presentation, not the actual method, that makes it good. You can spend five years programming a game, and it can be complete 
in comparison to what the next game made in a month.
