Well put, but people also like immersing themselves in games and making the game look more realistic makes that easier. Take Ace Combat 4/5 for example, those games made it very easy to immerse yourself into because they made the game very simple, fun, and realistic. You hear radio chatter, the world looks pretty good (ok, close up it looks like crap but you're flying by most portions of the land so it doesn't matter as much), and there is much interaction with the computer AI's guys (aircraft, land vehicles, etc).

Saying both are these games are realistic is like saying anyone can take 10 bullets and live. Honestly, peoples' definition of realistic has been twisted so much, thanks to games like these. If you want REALISM, and PURE REALISM. I suggest you play Hostile Intent. It's a mod for Half-Life, but it defines realism no other game ever has. The website is www.hostileintent.org.

I plan on buying Half Life soon, would you explain the difference between NS and half life and what the mod changes? BTW you can download CS if you have halflife right? All the halflife/cs stuff confuses me.
