It's their game, it's their event, and it's their contest, and they're letting us participate in it! I don't feel like we have any privilige at all questioning the rules they've set up. I'm just glad they're letting me compete.

Well said!!

Bogus!  No extended terrain or sprites.  With all the amazing new stuff that's been done with either, that's just plain ignorance.  It's easy with any review staff to weed out exploits with terrain or sprites, so I don't see the reason for this.

And why do they insist on ignoring UMS still?

UMS isn't popular enough for Blizzard to care about it.

In addition, they are probably like me and are disgusted at all the new amateur maps coming out with sprites -- or that try to look awesome -- with no regards whatsoever to balance or playability.

The thing with UMS maps is there's no restriction or limit to them. You can't set rules with them because there's just too much to it, so it's literally impossible to host official contests over this genre.

UMS is actually popular on bnet, it just lacks huge korean support happy.gif

Theres amateur melee maps too, don't forget. You can't expect people NOT to use sprites simply because they're less experienced, because it wouldn't actually change anything.

Ums isnt competetive enough. No defined rules. Its not SC, its for people who are bored of normal SC and just dont wanna play anything else.

Maybe we should all just make two basic maps each that are pretty plain and include extended ramps or other types of such terrain. At least we could get the point across that such terrain CAN be done well.

Thats already been proven, look at Ride of Valkyries or Paranoid Andriod.

Right: UMS is confined to newb games on bnet.

The real Broodwar has televised games, in addition to several smaller paid amatuer tourneys.

edit: could you rephrase you point on sprites? I don't understand what you are trying to say.
