I used to isten to evanescence, but the subject of their songs got really old really fast. I must say, they have beautiful music though

Wasnt there a thread like this already?

EZDay2: have you heard the Beatles song, Rocky Racoon? Does Rocky die in the end?

No, the name doesn't sound familiar.
And I'm EzDay2, not EZDay2, okay FkreiCmue?

Wow, Linkin Park sucks.

Go listen to some good music.

Slayer
In Flames
Pantera
Dimmu Borgir
Cradle Of Filth
Shadows Fall
Iced Earth
Necrophagia
Even Final Fantasy Remix's... Just not Linkin Park.

Slayer - closedeyes.gif
In Flames - Annoying. 'Cloud Connected' is a really cool song though.
Pantera - disgust.gif
Dimmu Borgir - I think they are funny. They will be rockin' and then suddenly cut out the base and do a little scale on like a zylaphone or something. Some high pitched instrument. I find that amusing.
Cradle of Filth - never heard of them
Shadows Fall - same
Iced Earth - they suck balls
Necrophagia - never heard of them.

If you guys don't know, I'm a guitar principle at Berklee College of Music, and based on my experiences here I have a few things to say about Linkin Park. First of all, I greatly appreciate their business strategies. They came up with a smart plan, and made themselves into a commercial success, and they should be very proud of that. That said, the only problem I have with their music is the fact that their formula is pretty much based on the removal of the parts of music that make it fun to play. There are no solos, no complicated compositional techniques, and, really no "feel" to any musical voice except for the vocalists. It can't be fun to play that crap on stage, because there's no real feel to it. The over-produced sound they have developed may snare an audience, but no guitarist or drummer dreams of playing shows without a chance to show off their chops. So all I can do is applaud them for their shrewd business sense but at the same time damn them for depriving themselves of any chance to branch out beyond the sound they have developed. Plus, the lyrics are total teen angst crap, and I got tired of bull@#$% like that back when I was a freshman in high school. That screaming vocalist dude makes me want to throw up.

My music picks:
Racer X - Technical Difficulties.
Guns N' Roses - Paradise City, Sweet Child o' Mine, Mr. Brownstone.
Van Halen - You Really Got Me, Mean Street, Me Wise Magic, Ice Cream Man, Cathedral.
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song, Black Dog.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood, Crossfire, Riviera Paradise.
Mr. Big - To Be With You.
Tom Petty - Into the Great Wide Open, Won't Back Down, You Don't Know How it Feels.

Check this stuff out - especially the Van Halen. Me Wise Magic is probably my favorite song of all time. The guitar work is phenomenal.

Oh I find it ironic that you would say you like Guns N' Roses over LP. The lead singer of guns is much more annoying than LP's. And I am sick of people saying LP's lead singer screams for no reason. He screams to show the emotion of lyrics he is trying to sing, hes not screaming just for the hell of it. Now compare his screaming to some bands where the lead singer screams through the whole song, now that is crap.

I suppose I should learn how to improv or something first though...heh heh...

I like LP because the sound they make is so different compared to what I hear normally on the radio, same with Nickelback and Matchbox20 and Incubus (not to say they themselves are alike) Though I have to admit I'm sort of getting more into purely instrumental music

I don't mind LP's screaming, because there really isn't that much of it.

But I don't think he screams to show emotion. I've never heard much emotion in LP's music. A couple songs show a little emotion, but not many and not much.

If you want to hear music with emotion download "I gotta find peace of mind" (the MTV unplugged version by Lauryn Hill. That is real emotion. Download any Lauryn Hill to hear insightful, revealing lyrics and songs with tons of emotion. Some older Mariah Carey songs show lots of emotion. "Looking In" and "Vision of Love" come to mind. Newer Mariah songs that show emotion are harder to find - but "never too far" is emotional IMO.

Personally, I like two really opposite genres of music.

I love the emotional songs that tend to crescendo into a climax where the artist let's go of their voices and just sings with their heart. eg. Jason Mraz's "You and I both", Train's "Drops of Jupiter", Old Mariah, anything by Lauryn Hill, etc.

But I mostly listen to 'angry' music. But I don't listen to it for its lyrical value. I'm not too sure why I listen to the majority of the music I listen to. For example, I've listened to thousands of hours of Disturbed's "The Sickness" album, yet it has almost no lyrical value, the vocals aren't very good, the songs aren't that interesting. It gets really repetitive and old, but I love listening to it. Just can't tell you why. heh smile.gif.

But similarely I listen to the heart filled, emotional music and never get tired of it. Emotion never really loses its meaning.

Y'all have to know what I'm talking about. Do you ever listen to a song and feel what the artist is saying, and how they are singing it? Some people do it with instruments. My dad feels every note of Jimmi Hendrix. I don't care for him personally, I've never been into guitar, i'm much more of a vocal type of person. I love to hear a good singer. When I listen to Jason Mraz's "You and I both" I feel how he gets caught up in the song towards the end. How he lets go. I love that about that song.

You can tell that David Draiman (Disturbed's lead singer, I think that's his name, not too sure about spelling) never really lets go... He just sings what he was going to sing. If he feels his songs, then he doesn't show it in his voice.

You can feel anger in old Metallica music (But anger isn't really an emotion that I like to listen to much nowadays, so I don't listen to much Metallica).

I feel no anger from bands like Hatebreed that just scream the whole time. Anger is an emotion, not an action. If you want to make angry music, then feel anger, don't scream.

Hmm Me to a think, actually i dont like any genre, i just like good music, it can be classical, death metal or hiphop(not really but it could someday), just as long as that song is good, right now and the alst few years ive been listening to a lot of different types of metal.

I actually agree with you on some levels.

But that is only true for 10% of LP fans, and only partially true for 40%.
Note: Those are estimates smile.gif.

Personally, I don't think their music is angry at all. I don't pay attention to the lyrics either. I think they are kind of fun to sing along with, which is the primary reason I listen to them.

The thing about Berklee is that they'll let pretty much anybody in. The hard part is staying for more than one semester. There's a ton of work to do. The school dumps tons of work on its students to weed out the ones who won't be able to cut it in the industry. I know a lot of people who have discovered that Berklee really isn't the place for them. I, on the other hand, am in my element here. If you want to go to Berklee (it's EXPENSIVE - I had to take out all sorts of loans and crap), you should make absolutely sure that you want a job in the music industry before you come here. Go to the 5-week summer program to try it out.

The entire college consists of only a few buildings. There are 3 main ones, and the rest are only a few minutes' walk from the center of the campus. There is no real campus per se, because the school is located in the exact center of the Back Bay area of Boston. I live in one of three dorms only 10 minutes' walk from the main buildings. Anyway, that's the Berklee info.

Oh, and improvisation, while important, isn't necessary. Berklee trains you to be a professional, so unless you're an absolutely terrible musician you should be able to learn quickly and get to the level at which you want to be. If you can't improvise when you get here, you sure as hell will be able to when you leave. What instrument do you play, anyway?

If you want more info about the curriculum or anything like that just throw me a PM. I'd be more than glad to explain what Berklee's all about.

Is this too off-topic? Should I have sent this as a PM? Just tell me and I'll send stuff like this as a PM next time.
