So what would a child not being able to pay attention be? Especially one that fidgets a lot and can't even have a conversation without losing concentration.
One question though, do people with ADD or ADHD sometimes WANT to actually pay attention, but just can't?

Well a certain amount of that yes, but i'll be in the middle of the paper and do that without really realizing it. Or walk off for a glass of water and forget about the paper entirely.

I swear most of you have never met a person with extreme ADHD. And yes it can easily be acquired through a situation, a lot of mental disorders can be (Multiple Personality Disorder, Clinical Depression etc..) but that does not make it so that it isn't real or that it does not need to be treated.

I do not have a case of ADHD so serious i need m own tutor. But i do have it enough where it is noticable. Yes, i talked to a psychiatrist about it and she confirmed it. I can either try to focus very hard (i get bored and stop) or i can have some caffeine. Caffeine does help A LOT.

Well i was told i had ADD in like grade 2 and i took ridalin til grade 4-5, but that gave me turets syndrome (is that how u spell it?) dont ask me how, so i stopped taking it, everything was fine for a while, but now im 16 and i still cant pay attention for more than 30 seconds, unless its something i really love, like starcraft!

Anyways, people always say "if you have ADHD then why can you play SC for 4-5 hours a day?" The thing is, it requires lots of levels of participation so it draws us in. we are moving a mouse, typing, listening, seeing, thinking about strategies....
So lots of things to concentrate on = good for ADHD.

ADHD isn't acquired through the environment, they are born with it. ADD could possibly be acquired through the environment that they live in, but i'm not really sure about that.

They cant concentrate because they're overly hyper, not the other way around. Or they could just be extremely hyper, and still classified as ADHD. (And I'd stop with any flames, whether you have or not in this thread, I just don't want any)
And kellimus, I'm saying that may have affected you as you needed not to concentrate on any one thing past your boredom of it.

There are many mental diseases that can be acquired both ways, usually behavioral ones.

Yes true that ADD is attention defecit disorder and they can't concentrate on one thing.
ADHD is the same as ADD only there is ALSO hyperactivity. Hyperactivity is another effect of it. not a cause.
