Sounds cool, but only for people with WAAAY too much time on their hands. If you have a job/kid/school or whatever, then it's not at all practical to stop every few hours and sleep. The 16/8 sleep cycle is the basis for which "the man" designs the workday. It wouldn't work for me, but if it works for you, more power to ya.

If you take a lot of showers it'll help you stay awake. That's how I got my gigantic college papers finished in only a couple of days.
Also, (I hope I don't get crucified for saying this) play World of Warcraft. If you're not careful, you'll lose entire days to it. DON'T HURT ME!
Right now I'm going by a 5/2 hour sleep schedule where I sleep from 12 or 1 to 5 or 6 and then from around 3 to 5 and it's working quite well. I'm feeling better than if I slept from 11 to 6 (which is also 7 hours). Yes I am keeping a log.
I think it's WHEN you wake up in your REM cycle, not really how long you sleep (to a degree)

I shower with really hot water, so I fall asleep while I'm showering.

Actually, it's how much REM you get. I read in some research that the first sleep cycle (REM included) usually takes around 2 hours (if you are not REM deprived).
Yea, I notice sometimes that when I wake up after sleeping from say 1 to 6 I'm more awake than when I sleep from say 12 to 6.

Take a cold shower. ONCE AGAIN something Kramer does.
I wish I could try that but I have school.Maybe in the summer if I remember but if it is that good it's going to really suck when summer is over.

Does kramer fall asleep in the shower or take cold ones? If the former. I'm sick of people comparing me to kramer.
Kramer takes cold showers, tried the uberman sleep schedule, tried using an elephant showerhead thing on his shower, alot of crap. The man's a genius.
Ya... Cold showers ~ The way to impress the ladies.
I've always had sleep problems, and I developed a schedule that I've been using for around 2 months and it works so much better than one sleep a day and fits in with my schedule.
I get off school at 11:00 (I go half days at school), go to sleep at noon and set my alarm for 3:00. I have work at 4:00 and get off at 10:00-11:00, and if you work a heavy-duty job, you know that it's impossible to go straight to sleep after you get off work for at least a couple hours. I usually decide to go to bed again at some time around 2:00-3:00 in the morning and set my alarm for 6:00 AM for school. And on the weekends it's great too. I doubt I'll ever go back to one sleep a day because this works so much better, I actually end up getting more sleep than I would otherwise and it seems like I have so much more time than I would with one sleep a day because I eliminate those "bored" times of the days when I have nothing to do.
If I hadn't already developed a sleep plan than I would probably try Uberman's Schedule, although I doubt it'd work, it's way too drastic for me.
Heh, I thought after a long day of work you would fall asleep quickly. I guess I haven't seen a heavy-duty job.
There is more than one important part to the sleep cycle... -_-
your theory is wrong. I don't understand?
Yes but REM is the most important.
There's no other way to get REM other than sleep. You can get the other "chemicals" your body produces in late sleep stages through nutrition. I wish more experiments/research has been done on this, it seems very interesting. You would also probably need to get an extra 1000-1500 extra calories, and a lot more fruits and veggies in your diet to combat the extra wake hours and caffeine needed to stay awake in the first few weeks. I've also read that your metabolism increases by 250%. For all we know this could be just as healthy if not healthier than a normal sleep cycle, too bad it's on a schedule that's nearly impossible to follow.
The diet thing wesmic was talking about reminds me of what I saw on the Discovery channel's show Deadliest Catch. It was about like crab fishing and it showed how the people had to work like all day, and since they didn't get very much sleep they ate a lot instead. They had to get in a lot of calories to fuel their "engine".
I defenatly gotta try thi over the summer I heard its rrly good for u but it takes at least 2 weeks to get used to then u r good for a long time or at least till school starts after that back to normal
At first glance this seems like an excellent way to get more free time, but on the other hand it IS kind of hard to believe you can function on this.
I'm actually starting this today. In about 15 minutes I'll be heading for my bed, but for only 20 minutes. I'll let you guys know how it's going after a while.
Ya but wat sux is wat are u gonna b doin at night n during school
I mean evrbdy is gonna b slepping and ur still awake
If it could do this it would be awesome, but I sleep like a log... When I'm tired and I fall asleep I don't wake up for a good few hours, even with an alarm.
I fell asleep yesterday... Sob.
