To make it work, make sure your computer shows file extensions, and right click the file and click save target as. Rename the htm file you downloaded to .scx and its ready to play!

Its a SEN problem.

I have always wanted to make a chess map, before I even knew that there was one already. I am building it from scratch with my own triggering.

Progress is excellent so far.

I have completed all directions and triggers for the castle piece, pawn, knight, bishop and king and queen! Currently a minor aligning problem with castle and queen, should be fixed soon!

Ok- Aligning problems fixed! And Alignment system enhanced.

The gameplay will be nice and easy. You simply have to unload a unit from your dropship, over the desired unit you wish to control. If you make an accident, simply unload another unit and your move will be reset. To finish your move, you simply unload a different unit aswell.

There will be NO cheating, it will be impossible. The downfall to the anti-cheating process is that when you move your unit to an enemy unit to kill him, you will be glued to him to avoid the ability for you to instead move onto another enemy unit (thus breaking the rules). If you do this accidentally however, you can always reset your move. Anyway, every other anti-cheat mechanism does not work like so, so it wont be some cheap mechanism.

I hope my version will end up better than the current chess, as it is being made in a more modern time with more knowledge at our hands. I just had a look at the current chess game. Let me tell you, this pwns it. No waiting or anything, this is instant as soon as you make your move. Unlike that one by gold.

Heres some screenies!

Already been done. It was done by... humm i forget his name with every possible trigger perfected inside. It was amazing and almost like the real thing. I was able to unprotect it, and see the like thousands of triggers he did.. It was crazy. but yours seems pretty cool to. Your has the same outline looking thing. But it's all good. Good job.

Mine is better. It uses a much better system to detect player moves and whatnot. (mobile grid system) IT doesnt rely on a bunch of pre-set moves from the triggers and is a lot faster to play and easier to play. In his version I found myself waiting for ages just so the triggers could work themselves out. This is instant. See for yourself smile.gif

ADDITION:
Update!

Version 1.1 now out.

-Fixed a bug where the queen could move diagonally and then move up to skip a unit in front of her.

-Fixed a bug where if player 2's unit selection was not successful, the civilian would stay on the ground.

-Fixed a bug where no more units could be created, causing a problem with the rule system.

After you finish this, you should make a computer AI that you can go against!

Also: You can't attach files on SEN, they aren't working currently. So if you want people to download your map, I would suggest hosting it on another website and give the download link.

As I said, you can easily make the downloads work by right clicking the download, click save target as and download an htm file. Rename the .htm bit to .scx and it works.

If your computer does not show the .htm part of the file here is the step by step instruction on how to do it:

Open up any folder, at the top of the window click tools, folder options, view tab, scroll down to the checkbox labelled "Hide Extensions for known file types" and untick it.

Now rename the htm part to .scx smile.gif

I do wish to add AI, as complex as it will be. smile.gif

If ur too noob to do that, heres the database link:

Hey, so I played your map. It was kinda like the old chess game, but it was cool.

Anyway, for critique. biggrin.gif
One thing I would implement is maybe moving your dropship to where it was the turn before when your turn starts. (So you wouldn't have to keep moving it on to the board.) It would cut down some turn times in half.

Also, this might be a little overboard, but maybe you could implement a smaller version of the game, so you could see how it was all set up. (I kept missing oportunities to take opponents)

Oh well, other than that I couldn't find any bugs or any problems.
Nice map.

Thanks. I will take the dropship thing into consideration. Not sure by what you mean from the smaller version of the game so you can see how it is all set up??

But that dropship thing I think I can do smile.gif

ADDITION:
Version 1.2 - 2/2/06

-Your dropship will now move to the last place you finished your move to enhance gameplay. (Thanks to rantent for idea)

-Cloaking abilities and etc have been removed from units.

-Added 2 spectators! You can now show off your chess skills live

I'm thinking about a Check system because there have been endless opportunities for me to checkmate opponent and they havent noticed lol.

He probobly means like a little minimap showing where each players pieces are to see it in a big picture, so he wont miss an opportunity because he was scrolling or couldnt see it all togetehr.

oooo i c... I'll think about it tongue.gif

And with the addition of my latest centerview on each turn, it shouldnt be as hard to keep track of his moves smile.gif

ADDITION:
1.3 Soon to come!

- Added a mini chess board to the bottom right hand corner to allow for strategic planning, allowing you to see the board easier. (thanks to rantent for idea)

- Re-mastered the horizontal alignment system, fixing alignment problems.

- The queen will now load 1 second quicker smile.gif This is due to the remastered system.

- Fixed a rare bug where making a move to kill the opponent ended up in the move being made but the opponent not dieing.

- Likely not to be released until 1.4, the check system. This will detect when your king is in check and notify you to make your move accordingly.

Since this patch has had quite a lot of added triggering, I will need to undergo further testing just to make sure everything is shiny smile.gif

hmm I didnt know of that move LOL. Most likely not many people know of it, so I will leave it out.

There are quite a lot of rules regarding check mate and so on in chess, but I left it at basic rules so it is understandable and fun. After all, this is starcraft, not a chess geek game room. tongue.gif

ADDITION:
Just a reminder, patch 1.3 fixes the castle movement bug.

ADDITION:
I am postponing the check system to 1.4, the patch is ready smile.gif

Why would you want to do that? lol...

But firstly yeah it would require like most of the current triggers duplicated, because each unit has specific triggers. And the zerg units are being used in burrow for the new check system in 1.4 tongue.gif
