An SCM/SCX is an MPQ.

I dont really see what that has to do with this topic...we know its a mpq but I was just saying to use a new extension so regular b.net users cannot join at all (if it was .scm or .scx, them downloading the map would corrupt their starcraft)

The third party program will make a copy of the mpq, put the copy into a temporary folder, add something into it that will prevent the crash, and then decode the custom data from the map file and put it into the temp mpq, and tell starcraft to read data from that file during the game.

Wouldn't some people have problems with firewalls and the like because of the temporary files and wouldnt it just be easier to have the mod than to make a 3rd party program required to play a map? This might have been said earlier but what maps really need mods in them and blizzard would probably have it banned and it might be very patch dependant (like memgraft) which would just give everyone more headaches because the 3rd party program would no longer work, which would mean that just putting a note in the map like "This map requires (insert mod here) mod to work, you can get it at (insert URL here)" and just running the mod would be easier.

No because there would only be 1 program needed for ALL mods BUILT INTO MAPS to work

You could have 300 maps that are all completely modded and have differant graphics and everything and only need 1 program to make them work, rather then 300 differant mods having to open and close them for each map and shiz

And WHY would blizzard patch something like this? It would make starcraft 10000X better game.. would would = a lot more people playing it.. blizzard would love it for sure lol. More money for them.

I've already stated this.
It can be used to spread viruses.

Lets look at the extended triggers that were found that allowed us to edit anything. Lets see, did Blizzard like that? NO. They kicked us being able to write to memory write out because it could harm other applications and potentially release viruses.

Blizzard dosn't get money for people playing Starcraft. They loose money maintaining battle.net. They get money for people buying starcraft. Thats also a very low amount, they get like 30% - 40% of the profit because of Vivendi(Publisher they take most) and the Store. So if this just attracts people who use to play it will mean nothing. Also if you haven't heard of Starcraft by now....., Well your probably an Anti-Starcraft Maniac that wont accept Starcraft no matter what. So in the end the profits from this would be extremely minimal.
If anything Blizzard wants people to move onto other Blizzard Products. Like WoW or Wc3+TFT.
If all Sc Gamers moved onto Wc3+TFT or better yet WoW they would make a tremendous quick profit.

Didnt you hear me before? you can put ANYTHING in a map without anything happening to corrupt their starcraft. anyway, this is what DatLoader is doing.

Actually, you cant put "ANYTHING" in maps (I'd know, I tried it when I first started modding) cause some things actually can mess up starcraft...

I've had several differant things happen cause of that but the worst was when I replaced some image, it corrupted everything in starcraft and everything I playd was blue and green untill I deleated the map tongue.gif

Wrong. You can put anything in maps. Give me a map that messes up starcraft. There are plenty of ways mods can mess up starcraft, just not maps.

Listen Min, Corporations do not do things that lose them money. The reason they keep SC B.net running is because it is making them money. Would you like to know how? Of course you would. Next time you log onto to B.net take a look at the top of the window. Do you see that? It's an add, this is what makes b.net profitable for Blizzard. With over 200,000 people on at any given time to see these adds companies will pay a lot to get their adds up there.

Ah yes Advertisements didn't cross my mind. I usually ignore them and move on.
But still it's not as you might think. Plus half the time I do notice them there for Blizzard games.

But either way they would keep it running. You would upset to many people. People get mad at Blizzard, they will just move onto a different company.

Still that wasn't my main point of that argument. My main point is that Blizzard wouldn't allow it because you can spread viruses. It's what stopped SI from doing something similar to this. The fact is that no matter how great of a program you make there will always be a risk with viruses. As long as their is such a risk Blizzard will not allow it.

Actually not. All they could do was cause a buffer overload and make your computer crash. EUD can't specifically write outside Starcraft-allocated RAM.

you could point a pointer out of starcraft memory.

I thought it was proved you couldn't touch RAM outside of that for Starcraft.
