Well a few nights ago I had a horrifying dream and I new that I was dreaming and I made myself wake up a little bit because it was scary. So that counts right?

If so im pretty good at doing this, so far I have done this a few times in my lifetime, I don't know how I do it, it kind of just comes to me.

premature ejaculater!

anyway, theres other types of dreams that are interesting, where they feel like a really long time, where a person can dream an entire life time then wake up, which is pretty fascinating.

an other crazy thing is sleep paralyis, scary tho

Sleep paralysis is what keeps me from trying to maintain consciousness as I fall asleep. I get scared. tongue.gif

If you knew you were dreaming and made a conscious decision to wake up, yes. If it was something like a car about to run you over and you got shocked into waking up, that's different.

Before I get warned for some little 10 year old posting on the forums reading this, I'll put a disclaimer that you read it at your own risk, if you mentally put yourself in other people's situations that aren't so much fun, or are easily quesied (if that's a word), don't read the giant ass block of text that shows up later down.

Why'd I bother posting that? ^

I never have it like that all the way through. And most of the time when I notice it's a dream, I end up waking up soon after this realization...

However, sometimes I get to take advantage of it, and remember it's a dream and I have no obligations or consequences, so I can just randomly walk around grabbing girls breasts. Most of the time, though, that results in some overflow of guilt into me, or me waking up, or both.

Controlling the dreams, I usually can't, because some part of me is like "it'd never work that way in real life...". However, I sometimes can rewind certain things to try it a different way, like everything goes backwards and if I focus, it changes a bit, usually in my benefit.

I can't focus on exactly what I want to happen, but it usually just turns out better.

However, there's a lot of the time where it just doesn't work out, but I can still tell it's a dream.

Kinda like this one I had on april first, sorta like one I had a long time ago:
Alright...pretty difficult to concieve without a picture or something, but it started out in complete darkness. then, the whole room lit up, and my girlfriend was naked, clasped down onto this table in the middle of the room, at least i'm pretty sure it was her, i couldnt really see (explain later), and i was on one side of the room , let's say, near the south wall. I had no shirt or shoes, but i did have pants on. my ankles were chained to the ground and my arms were tied to these ropes that had some -heavy- things on the other side of them. Oh yeah, uhh...on either side of the room where I wasn't, let's say, east and west walls, were these cages full of guys who seemed barbaric and -obviously- wanted to fark her. They were naked, and pretty strong-looking...Now, these "cages" were raised in the air like 5 feet, and the ropes tied to me were tied to the raised gates in front of them, and if i don't pull my arms toward me, the gates would slide down and they'd all be able to just jump out and...since she was held down in the middle of the room, just a bad situation, ya know? Now, the way that this worked...it was so obvious i wouldnt be able to keep the gates high enough forever...but that's not all. the entire time, i couldnt really see clearly, everything was sorta shadowy and red, because one of my eyes (the one that sees better at long distances) had a nail through it. Or something like that. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a nail. So for like 2 minutes, I held the gates up, wishing I'd just wake up, because it hurt physically, and I really really didn't want to let anything happen to her, and it would be allll my fault...and anyway, I was sorta doing alright till the guys in the cages started to push the gates downward with their arms, and hey, with like 5 or 6 guys per cage pushing it, my arms never stood a chance. And there was the fact that her, at least her voice was all like "It's okay...It's okay, I understand Ally...it's not your fault. I'm ready for it. You can't do this forever..." etc, etc. the whole time...I just...I gave in. And...aside from my arms benig pulled apart at the seams, and her screaming for me to help her (as you imagine, that felt GREAT!! (sarcasm) ), this time, something new happened...this...wierd red skull with flashy yellow starrish eyes sorta showed up in front of me, and slowly came closer and got more detailed (like i said, the eye i could actually -see- with was the one that sees better closer), and sorta came up into my face, part of it sorta sagged, and it laughed at me and whispered "You're... coming... with... *stop whispering* ME!" and flew toward me. At that point I was able to wake myself up...and I was facing the wall of my room...and I opened my eyes, and the whole wall was a dark red, the whole place looked soaked in blood or some shiz, or as if some red glow was out my window or behind me...so i mentally reminded myself "None of this is real. none...none of it is real..." and closed my eyes again, and went back to sleep.

But shiz like that is like...

The whole thing/concept is surreal, and nearly physically impossible.

I knew it was a dream, but that time I couldn't control that or have that fact help me at all. Wouldn't be considered a Lucid Dream, but there's others where I can stop everything and everyone does exactly what I might ever want them to but never want to ask them to.

Those are fun ;P

God damn that was a long post.

I think I once had those dreams but never noticed it. I tried the techinque last night and the room starts to spin around me. It feels like my bed is spinning. I eventually suceeded! biggrin.gif But, it lasts like 30 seconds. cry.gif I wanted to see what I will look like in a videogame so, I dreamt of me being a knight slashing a monster in Kal Online. tongue.gif

BTW, is feeling footsteps while lucid dreaming normal? fear.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-04-29 at 10:15:26
That's classic hyponogia rather than lucid dreaming - the feeling of footsteps is evidence for that.

Basically, your body went into REM sleep too quickly and you were stuck somewhere between sleeping and waking. Did you have any feeling of discomfort, like pressure on the chest, paralysis or inability to breathe?

My nightmares are almost always lucid dreams, in that I continously build up "barriers" of thought to keep the "bad thought", ie, the nightmare's fixation, away. I end up doing it on and on, wanting to wake up all through out. Anyone ever had a nightmare that's scary when you're dreaming, but when you wake up, it's not scary at all, even though you still feel fear? I had one once, though I've forgotten what it was.

Wait a minute does that mean a lucid dream is a dream in side another dream but when you relize its a dream you forgot that dream bringing you to a 3rd dream?

Also some poster mentioned something about a "wet dream" with ps2.

The only thing that I can say is similar to this that i was dreaming that the SEN moderaters were playing Uber arena but in the end i pwned them all but then Mini_moose typed: Dude you got to show us how to do that. But before I did I went to go microwave a dream bagel then my mind told me screw this and i was back in this other dream were I had to use my C-10 rifle to defeat zerglings in a shuttle.

A lucid dream is a dream where you are aware that you are dreaming, allowing you to do anything you want inside that dream.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-04-29 at 22:00:36
Yeah. About the "feeling like the room is spinning", I can, if I concentrate, sort of simulate the feeling of the bed moving underneath me, like in waves or spinning or doing flips, though it's pretty hard to do. I don't feel discomfort or pressure, though sometimes it just sorta happens. Is this hyponogia?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-04-30 at 05:44:17
It sounds like it. If you're aware that you're conscious and not dreaming, but you experience sensations like that then it's probably hypnogogia.

If you're an insomniac or have any sleep disorders then the chances of you having hypnogogic episodes is greatly increased.

I have lucid dreams during my insomnia spells. They're usually about girls that I wanted to have sex with, but didn't. Since I have more control in the dreams, sometimes I actually get to bag em (but it's still surprisingly difficult, they're hard to get in dreams too. I only nail em probably 1/4 of the time).

Apparently you can make things happen your way in lucid dreams though. You have to imagine the desired situation, close your 'eyes' and spin around on the spot, then open them.

I probably do have some form of sleep disorder, I have a strong tendency to never go to sleep unless I go to bed right after I get home from school... then again, that might just be the internet's fault...

Anyway, yes, I have dreamed in the third person. Almost in a movie format. Some would say this is an out of body experience. But to me it felt like I was still me controlling myself from a third person, so technically I was in my body just viewing it differently.

So basically you were dreaming about you being a video game? That's the only analogy I've ever thought up for 3rd person dreams.

Sleep paralysis is the scariest feelnig possible. Luckily I've only had it once, as I happen to be a very happy person in real life. And luckily for me I can't lividly remember it. Jsut the colour dark green.

Does anyone else get a sudden feeling like you drop 3 feet in less than a second but don't move at all when you realise you're in a deep dream and decide to wake up?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by 00cnr on 2006-05-04 at 17:59:23
I've never actually have a lucid dream, or atleast can never remember it. Apperantly I have terrible dream recall, most of the time i can only remember a few dreams per month. I'd have to work on that before having any hope of being able to control my dreams. Sometimes, in my dreams I get hit in the face by something and when I wake up, I can feel something on my face. Is that anything other than weird?

Not at all. I've dreamed I was doing things I'd normally do in real life from a 3rd person point of view.

But it's LIKE being in a video game. I've had them too (ironically after playing tons of a video game, Banjo Kazooie)

The term 'Falling asleep' didn't come out of nowhere. People, if they're concious when falling asleep, will feel a falling sensation sometimes. I know sometimes I'll be half asleep and react to something in my dream in real life or I'll feel like teh bed is tipping up and I am falling feet first so I scramble to gain my footing.

I had a very strange thing happen in my sleep last night.

The problem is I cannot determine whether or not it was a dream or sleep paralysis. What happened, as I remember it, was that I was given an edible form of marijuana. The thing with dreams is that people can have VERY realisitic effects from drugs despite never having used them. Of course, I ate it. What I remember is that an extreme burning sensation came over me (it was a very concentrated dose). I was lying down in my bed, and only moving my eyes (I can't say I was unable to move anything else as in sleep paralysis because I didn't try to move anything else). Everything around me seemed VERY real and the colors and shapes seemed to all come at me (as if I had actually taken a very concentrated dose of weed). The issue here is that the effects were very similar to sleep paralysis, but it may have been the drug in my dream. I want to say it is a dream because I vaguely remember getting this weed and eating it while standing up. Furthermore, it was a rectangular package wrapped in plastic, which I do not remember unwrapping. Also, the room seemed brighter than it should have at the time. When I consumed it, I had to be dreaming. Perhaps from there I lost the dream and went into sleep paralysis. Weird stuff.
