Starcraft has been immortalized by the gaming population and will probaly never die. Enough said. Just look at Tetris and Pacman? Household names in today's world. Soon Starcraft will be like that. Highly doubt the Koreans will forget about Starcraft, too. DIdn't this game like saved their economy or something?
The only reason Starcraft will die not only on battle.net but in private servers and leagues as well is if there's a newer better game that can replace starcraft. So far no game today can do that.

That will probably happen when SC2 comes out (If it turns out good)
I can tell you if all of sc fades and there are no memories or survivors what game will replace it.
Spore.
Spore looks so badass.
@Echo: there is a Warcraft 1 but it's not supported by blizzard anymore.
Starcraft will fade. The Starcraft Universe will not.
ok this probably isn't going to make any sence but here goes.
Along the lines of SC fading w/ the possiblity of SC2 coming out probably will happen. But my question to you is what happens when SC2 sucks horrible ass and becomes too complicated for its own good. Also how is it posible to get onto these private servers cause Bnet is pissing me off hella time.
I agree with MA's posts... I don't think that teh game starcraft is going to live on forever, but the community will live forever along with its legacy...
Were the names of the pro gamers koreans? They sound familiar to me.
woot! go koreans!
I think more people here need to get involved in the melee mapmaking community, or at least some people should try to make some melee maps, and at least show them off here at SEN in the melee forums. Wouldn't it be cool to be the creator of a map that gets played by the biggest names in Starcraft while being watched from thousands of people?
chances are Starcraft will live on, because of all the strategies that Korean Pro gamers are developing etc. and people will want to be like them.
Starcraft has quite a vast amount of flexibility, but I seriously doubt that Ghost will have the same flexibility as Starcraft does. Chances are Ghost wont last half the time starcraft will stay popular.
Yes, i heard that they cancled Starcraft: Ghost. Or POSTPONED IT AGAIN!!!!

But yes, like we have all been trying to say, if starcraft will end, that doesnt me the whole starcraft universe ITSELF. We still have SEN and other b.net and sc sites to talk and go on about sc. But then again, with no people on starcraft that means no making maps and modifications. So then later in the future, they will probably shut down sites like this one. Will just have to see what happenes in the next years or decades.

freak yea.
The main reason I want it that way is not to make me famous, but to watch cool replays on my map. Main reason I want my map played on alot is so that it increases the chance of getting replays for me to watch

Battle.net SC is dying, but not the SC community itself. And I'm not just talking about the koreans.
The melee community obviously has gone down the drain on battle.net because people only play $$ maps and boring imbalanced maps like Lost Temple. So instead people play on private servers/leagues. Like Pgtour.net, and the even bigger one, WGTour.com. They play really good maps, most of which are made by koreans. Those maps are really fun and are mostly balanced.
The SC community outside of battle.net will NOT die for a very long time. The average age there is like 18+ and people there are serious about starcraft, unlike many of us on battle.net and even here on SEN. Those people there are actually good at SC, and it's actually fun to play with them, since they're they're only to game, not to gloat, taunt, or be asses.
So if you're talking about SC on battle.net, then yea I guess we can try to do something, but it's quality is already going down. The sc community outside of battle.net however, will not die for a very very long time.

I totally agree with that. But maybe we should all learn korean? SC could be no longer english soon...
Don't forget CS, that's still old yet popular and that ain't goanna die any time soon.
No it's not just korea. Europe too... As a continent, they're almost as huge as korea when it comes to starcraft. They also have live TV broadcastings of their SC matches. But if you look at the european countries individually, they can't compare to Korea, but are much better off than every North and South American Country combined.
That doesn't mean it's going to live on forever.
As much as I hate to say; it will die eventually, however it will take a long time.
The current starcraft generation will play it as long as we live. But the next generations have no interest. I hate to get the feeling that I might be the last starcraft-addicted person on the earth. It's already happening. The new generations and younger people already "judge the book by it's cover" and hate the old-fashioned graphics. They would prefer a game that has 3D graphics and is very laggy to a good game with weak graphics that runs at lightning speed.
People also seem to hate it when they have to think to win a game. The new games have easy, medium and hard modes, none involve strategy; they just involve knowing where the trees are, knowing whether the french have better guys then the english, and Handling loads and loads of lag.
The new games go to stupid extremes sometimes, they have 8 teams! None of these teams are any different. They just have one or two variations in units or buildings.
These new games are also have terrible, if any map editor. They are either lame and offer no options at all regarding triggers, or the triggers are way to specific. I was trying to make an map using the "Age Of Empires" map editor; the triggers insisted that I pick a specific unit that is already on the map. No option to just use that unit type in general. Absolutely everything was jumbled together and put in alphabetical order.
These new games also have a lot less functionality. With starcraft, I can play on a 10$ P2 computer and still have it run fairly quickly. These new games tend to run like molasses on my top notch P4.
Whew...
It will die as in people won't play it anymore, if not rarely. However, I believe it's legacy will still live on. Once we become grandpas, we can tell our grandkids that we lived in the "Age of Starcraft."
Starcraft will not die. Here is why, when they realized that Warcraft II was going to die because of these new revolutionizations for the computers they came out with Warcraft III. Now for Starcraft it will be the same its just a matter of time that they will surprise us with Starcraft 2 we will be like woa wtf when that start and it will already be out.

MA is right. Nothing lives forever as people say but only legacies and strengh does and who knows. In the year 2200 they might make Virtuastarcraft! Another funny fact to add on to this is that there is a single starcraft C-D orbiting in space on a satilie!

Hey Millennium, when did you indulge yourself so much into the melee world? You quite a lot about it. And PGT is bigger than WGT nowadays, although WGT is more oldschool.

But what you say is correct. The pro gaming scene is South Korea is still going strong with Broodwar spearheading it. They are getting more sponsors and more money involved in Starcraft with teams and large tournaments like OSL and MSL and it will keep growing larger until a better RTS is out. Starcraft players are even becoming almost like celebrities over there with tens of thousands of fans (hundreds of thousands for the most famous one, Lim Yo Hwan). I'm confident that BroodWar will still have at least 5 more years in it in South Korea and even outside of there.

I Honestly think SC Will die about the time SC2 comes out
and then that'll kick ass!

Ya, i would like to be, instaed of a Baby boomer (name of ppl of 60-65 hold in canada caus 60 years ago babys whas like part of everyday... 2 many of them pops up in 2-3 years) but instead of this, we will be StarBoomers! yea, i like it, Marco, the StarBoomer! we just got to talk about this to ppl that can make this something knew to all the planet: All the teens/adult that started to play starcraft between 1996 and 2006 will be StarBoomers!
There's the 2nd part of my post: Will starcraft2 be compatible with all the editora created? Surely not, but, will ppl make editors for SC2 or will they think like: freak it, i wont make editors for all blizz's games!... or will blizzard do like warcraft 3 and make a super-pwner-hadr to understand editor where you will be eble to do more than all the other editors thogheder?!?
This is what i, marco, the StarBoomer, think...
Starcraft Ghost was cancelled indefinately. I read they wanna return to the sc universe but I believe sc:ghost was suppose to be that return and sc2. also to tell you the truth all they need to do is upgrade graphics get better patches and make the starcraft editor like starforge and the others cept better and they would be enought for me to buy for like 30$ >.> what you think?

Well they are not stupid, they will make us pay for an editor, thay know we are editors freaks, and they will put the-f*ck-i-dont-know-what for prevent us from making new editors still you buy THEIR editor...

I can run War2BNE, and I'm on XP SP2.
And Starcraft won't die. Look at the Doom community. The Doom one community. We should get a new game eventually...that'll give us a major boost, knowing Blizzard.

I could be wrong but I think the doom 1&2 community has gone down the toilet in recent years. Since doom 3 was a (relative) flop compared to it's legacy, and since what was keeping the old community alive was the hope of continuity, it seems a lot of it has fallen off in recent times and isn't as active as it used to be. It'll probably stay alive, but like SC, become more privatized and reclusive.
SC still has the suspense factor going while we await continuity from Blizz. Truthfully though, I'm getting irritable with them jerking us around like this while we wait on them cashing in on warcrap for god knows how long.
SC Ghost was a joke, and we all knew it. A console Third Person Shooter game being made based of a PC RTS game just doesn't seem immediately logical for continuity purposes, frankly.
