We should hold more than just one contest a month. Like one contest held by Moose and one by DTBK or IP or someone else. This may stretch the people out, but I think overall there will be more people in the contests. Just an idea. These would have different themes though!

hey if you need an ops bot in Op SeN... i have an extra starcraft CD key to host it. my computer connection is 24/7 and willing to give all access to who ever is in charge of the channel.

and yes my bots do work.

On the topic of Op SEN, why haven't we made Clan SEN yet? I know we're not a clan and all, but I always wondering why we had Op SEN rather than Clan SEN.

I'd be willing to pitch in my two WC3 keys to make it. And I'd much rather be a member of Clan SEN than anything else on WC3. tongue.gif

Hmm I wonder if we can get away with making it anyway...

>_>
<_<

So is the issue that Legacy and Devilesk don't want to give up ops or something? The last I remember, CheeZe had something to do with the ops. But that was a loooooooong time ago. I haven't been in an active Op SEN in a while, so I wouldn't know.

6. DLDB
a. Implement stricter quality controls.
b. Improve Reviews system.

You know what the one complaint I hear from everyone I know that uses the DLDB. You need to make a required field for uploads that forces people to state how many players the map is for.

Examples [1 Player][1-4][2-4] etc

Some people only want multiplayer maps. Some want maps that can be played multiplayer or by yourself. Some just want single player maps.

You may not need this system in all areas of the DLDB but in UMS its a must. Tho personally I would add it everywhere. Knowing how many players max in a melee, min & max in UMS etc.

What do you think?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-10-10 at 12:08:04
I can understand why you'd want the amount of players displayed for a melee, but why would it matter for a UMS map? I suppose there could be an option that displays "Single Player" or "Multiplayer" in the map's description in the DLDB, but you can generally play any multiplayer map as a single player.

QUOTE(DevliN @ Oct 9 2006, 03:03 PM)
Actually this is really doubtful. If you'd notice the turnout for every monthly map contest we have, less than 10 maps are submitted. More contests each month would make that amount drop even further.

Who used the word "monthly"? Or even the word "mapping"?

And I like the idea of spontanteous tournaments. I was all up for the Binary D Tournament, and the only reason it failed was because one team never responded. So if we were to do that again, I'm sure it would work as long as each team really is willing to participate.

Yeah, UMS playing tournaments would be awesome.

QUOTE(Tuxedo Templar @ Oct 9 2006, 04:28 PM)
I was just saying let users review DLDB entries freely and give them rewards for doing so (based on quality/depth of review).  To keep out abusive reviews, just have the DLDB keepers apply the same process for reviews that moderators use for moderating posts.

Exactly.

Everyone will get to review under the v5 system.

I have control of the bot as of now... CheeZe has the password as a backup as well.

I did. tongue.gif

I was making a point that the turn out for the monthly contests aren't that great as is. So having more contests would probably produce even less of a turn out per contest.

Well, here are my thoughts:

Armies was awesome. Let's bring it back. (As far as I can recall, the bug in Armies was that you could buy negative items. Shouldn't that be fairly easy to fix?)

I'd also like to see a sort of "Reputation" thing underneath Minerals. I'm not refering to any sort of Karma system here, but just an average % rating of the user's DLDB files that they authored. (Files by a different author are not included in the average). I'm not really sure to call this one.

As Ojan said, I'd love to see more modding support from SEN. As how to accomplish this:

1 - A spotlight would be a good idea. I think maybe increasing the Map Spotlight to 4 boxes and designating one of them for mods would be good.

2 - Change the "Map Making Clans" forum category to "Hosted Clans" tongue.gif

3 - Increase the mod upload space! 2MB = mellow.gif

Are there enough Mods out, though, in order to have one put up each week in a weekly Spotlight? I can't use Mods and don't know how to make them so I'm legitimately asking if there are enough.

Otherwise we'd theoretically see the same ones every few weeks, right?

Bi-weekly, perhaps.

Good idea. Modding can accomplish so much more then maps, yet it's nearly as oppressed as melee maps.

3. Improve Community Base

What do you mean by this, exactly? Will you ban people hu typ liek dis? Those people are detrimental to this community as a whole and should be purged.

Dragging my response to Moose back over here...

Improve SEN

1. Get v5 released
a. I was going to make this big topic when v5 was release, but I got tired of waiting and made it now. -_-

Yuck. I completely feel like v5 is being short-changed and will totally suck. v5 is not a magic solution to anything, and should not be rushed. Make it good before you release it, not after.

2. Stimulate Map Production
a. More active Map Spotlight.

We just need more active DLDB keepers who can fill up a "quality" section that people can look in. I suggesting having a "quality map" tag that DLDB keepers can enable and then make that be a sort-able category.

b. More SEN sponsored contests?

On what, though?

3. Improve Community Base

Make pigs fly?

4. Rewrite Rules and Policies?
a. Improve enforcement of rules and policies?

Be careful how it's written.

b. Moderator's code of conduct.

A public one is a terrible idea. You're just asking for people to start looking for loopholes, and exploiting it to flame the Staff.

c. Write out sets of forum specific rules.

Like...?

5. Revive Map Night
a. Get channel bot when StealthBot upgrades.
b. Spontaneous tournaments with mineral prizes?

Whatever, I've never been to Map Night anyway tongue.gif The least you could do is get the channel managed by SEN, not devilesk and LW.

6. DLDB
a. Implement stricter quality controls.
b. Improve Reviews system.

See suggestion on quality tag. I think the DLDB should keep its wide acceptance right now, but also have that qauality filter, so it can host both many and quality maps.

v5 is a magic solution to a big thing known as "Invision Board". tongue.gif

Maybe there should be a page or pinned topic where DLDB can put quality maps or something. Like a staff picks section at a movie rental place.

Probably on playing StarCraft. This could tie into improving Map Night as well.

It wouldn't be any more specific than the Moderator's Handbook. You of all people should know I would keep things very broad to prevent loopholes.

#2, I think you're good enough with. Every month you have those contests and good maps go up, seems like people participate alot too. Maybe have different kinds of map making contests besides different themes.

And as for your Revive Map Night plan, you just need a bot as you said. And maybe have the bot with a welcome notice saying what games are known for availability, an idea along this line would be like adding a command where any user could make a log in the bot for what maps they want to play or are currently playing. Ex: <Command> (bot trigger)Tdnfthe1 Hosting Falling Tiles!
And someone who wants to play that map or any other maps could come into the channel and type(for example) <Command> (bot trigger)"MapNightGameLog". And the maps people have pinned that they're hosting will display and list. Just a thought and not well explained either, but hope your v5 looks good.

Ya map night is like.. DEAD.. I almost see no1 in the channel whenever I go there. Its usually like 1 or 2 people in there tops. Kinda sad. I agree that this will help at least alittle bit if not then ..I havn't thought of that part yet but I'll think of something at least. tongue.gif
