I disagree, such contest have crappy productions because they are limited in time, something that is not the case here, as the limit is set on the total amount of changes that you can do.
Anyways, I think that when it comes to modding contests, it's small-scale that we should stick to.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I think that we should just have a single unit, human judged contest. I could host a contest, but I'd need donations.
Single unit
Iscript, Graft, DAT, GRP edit
Completely new unit.
i agree we should have a modding contest! im hoping we can start one today or tomorrow!
Single unit mod, I say we do it.
ill be happy to test out my new program and help organize it..
I believe requirements of the submitted mod should be this.
MPQ(So we can check and see if you violated anything)
EXE(If Needed)
TXT File describing what was changed.
I just don't think that something like this would work. I mean, look at the 30 minute mod-making contest--it was somehwat of a minor disaster. What's the point of having people make little mods, as Doodle said, when they could use the ideas in bigger mods that would actually be worth playing?
Well currently, about half of our modders appear to be doing nothing. If we make the contest over a span of say...two weeks to make the mod, it could give them enough time. I believe several mods like 36Craf, ArgCraft, and GC were put togethor over jsut a weekend.
instead of arguing... is anyone thinking of starting a contest now?
Would this kind of thing go in minor news?
I'll host it, but later.
One week good?
laser dude... contact me on msn:

Got it installed, my name is "Laser-Dude@hotmail.com" *note the dash.
See you after school
ADDITION:
Ok, I'm on, and waiting
ADDITION:
Hosted one, just waiting for it to be accepted
I don't understand why we put it in the MODDING forums. Oh well.
its talking about modding contests....
Why not have everyone put in a unit, then make one big mod?
Cool idea, but there will hardly be balance in it
you could always work out balance later with HP, Cost, Food, And requirements.
Just make a bunch of cool units IE cool attacks and abilities.

We can fix balance after. We could hire a group of testers to find imbalances then they could balance it or someone else who's in charge of balancing it could do so.
or we could do it our selves

If by that you mean the people making the units, then yeah... Sorta. But it's kind of hard when you don't know what everybody else is making.
Hmm...if balance is of no problem, then I think that we will need some sort of a theme for the contest, so that the units have something in common.
Another thought crossed my mind - would it still be a contest? If everyone contributes single units of their own design, how do you judge which one is better: a S00p4h-B4ttl3cruz4H or a covert-op? Of course, we can have separate categories for each unit type, but my question still remains: what would be the criteria of judgement? Some are obvious - relation to the theme, uncrashability etc, but the very characteristics of a unit is the greatest problem I think.
I guess we could just go with how overall cool the unit is... Hehehe
(No, not really)
