Personally if you're going to get four gigabytes I would get 2 x 2, it's a whole lot easier for the future
The RAM you posted did look alright, though.
I'll probably stick to a laptop when I go to college as well - an ultra-high quality laptop.
Deathawk, can you please tell me when I can learn all this computer mumbo jumbo? I have about no idea what you're talking about, if I get a source I could enjoy this a lot more
.
I honestly don't know where I exactly learned it. I read a lot of stuff on NewEgg,
tech-forums, a bunch of other stuff. Reading and spending time with them does help a lot too. I'm sure you could pick it up fast
Yeah, I guess that is true, but even now you'd be better off just getting 2 sticks of RAM.
Wait, so you're going to buy two sets of the RAM you posted? Then you'd be better off with the 2x2.
Your computer looks sweet and it is really good I wish mine was that good
my comp is a piece of crap but im too poor for a better one and I dont use it for enough to bother really
Show me where to find 2x2 GB of DDR2 800, and I'll look into it. Unless I'm blind, 2 GB sticks seem to be rare these days.
Yeah, I swear I saw some before, but now I can't find any... maybe there is none, but whatever ~.~
Maybe that'll change when you purchase your computer though, and if it does don't get 4 sticks ~.~
Ha! I just got another package, this one containing sound dampening material and this
baby for 3 of my 7 (pause:
) 5.25" bay drives. Hello, increased air circulation!
Here's a pic of the sound dampening material and the Blade fan grill installed:
*Edit* Lol, it seems that my bed is my current workbench of choice.
Why would you need sound dampeners for SILENT fans -.-
You wouldn't want to set your computer up there(like your mobo and stuff.), because of ESD, just a warning for later on
And why did you take apart the whole case.. you're only installing fans..
I have 5 5.25 drive bays
I only use one.
I'm not stupid, really I'm not.
I do not want to fry a $1000 mobo + cpu and a $1000 graphics card set. That would suck on a whole new scale.
I know, I know. My friend did it before, although the pieces wern't as good as the ones you plan on buying, he fried out a socket 754 system..

God, DTBK's the best. While he was building his PC, he was probably... nevermind. Har har.
I'm so sick (like physically). Stupid sore throat and crap. I am definitely going to need a bigger desk for this baby though. I still can't decide between 2 GB of DDR2 800 for ~$300 or 4 GB of it for ~$400. Why would I need sound dampening material? Well, so the vibrations from the DVD
+RW and Hard Drives would not be amplified (as much), naturally.
lol.
Yeah, I'm not feeling great either, bad weather up here and I've had like 12 hours sleep the last 3 days..
Eh, I guess, but personally I never even notice them..
Why don't you get 3 harddrives... 2 raptors and one like 320 gb storage? That's be some fast loading times... and what monitor do you have...?
You know something crazy? Dell...yeah, Dell...
I just took a look at their website, and they're selling laptops...not top-of-the-line, but still pretty damn decent
-Some type of dual core precessor
-2gig RAM
-nVidia Go7 series (7800 maybe)
-100 gig HD
.....they're selling that at around $1,000
Dell selling something like that for $1,000! If even Dell can do that, I'm sure you can find a pretty damn good deal somewhere...

Do not even mention frying mobos!!!!
How did I fry my first A8N-SLI..... ah yeah. I just got a new case right. Really sweet case was $120. Looks amazing. Anyway I put it in there and well....I accidently left a little plastic thing that covered one thermal sensors on accident...
Heh..yeah that fried the baby.
The next time? Well the A8N-SLI had a faulty fan.... well every few months the mobo's fan would start slown down and create some horrible sounds and the temperatue inside the comp would skyrocket. Not a good thing. Anyway in order to regrease the fan I had to take it out. Not an easy task. Well I broke something doing it and set up a neat design to keep it in place. Well yeah... all I know is the spring in the mobos fan shot off and after that my mobo didn't work.
Well thankfully since then I got a version where the fan was fixed and everythings been running great.
Anyway $300+ in mobo's. Not a good thing!! Thankfully everything else of mine has stayed quite solid.
Also I just looked at your first post and didn't notice a PSU. Get a good $100 - $150 PSU or you will end up paying more in the long run. Never take a PSU that comes with a case. Even if they have good Watts. More often or not if they have decent Watts they will blow in rails. I personally sugest Antec. Great company. I got my Antec Trupower 2 550Watt doing pretty good. Costed $120. Should last me for a while.
Antec is overpriced, get the from Ocz GameXStream, my recommendation.
Try $200 minimum for a PSU. Also, I was toying with the idea of getting a single 150 GB Raptor, but 2x7.2k rpm Seagates tear through that performance.
Raptors are nice although I don't think there really worth it. I've heard a lot of crashes with them.
There really needs to be some new kind of extremely good storage tech. Current hard drives are rather slow. Theres a lot of things that seem promising out there that I have read about...although most of them seem 10 - 15 years from consumer market.
Because it's just not worth it. Actually, a large bottleneck for loading things is the cpu, which actually has to process all the information. I always wondered why I'm usually the slowest loader on BfM-E 2, and it turns out my CPU sucks. 2x 320 GB hard drives in Raid-0 will suit me fine.
It's definately worth it, booting your OS In like 5 seconds ~.~
HDDs have definately been a big bottleneck... size has increased, bandwidth has increased, but their speed really hasn't..

Bet there's a catch.
The fact that it's a Dell, and you'll get screwed the minute something happens to it?
Naw, it wasn't a bad comp or a bad deal....just like any other computer, except a lot cheaper than I expected.
