3 uniform maps wouldnt be a bad idea, esp if they are all done with great quality

Melkor just think for a second. The first age passed in Beleriand, and the second/third hundreds of miles the the east. He couldnt make terrain that would satisfy the locations. So obviously, he must make more than one map.

Well I've been on vacation for a week, so hopefully this weekend I can release V. Charlie 1.03! Well anyway, there isn't much more to say. Dunno if I've already mentioned this, but the other two maps in this series shall be:

LotR Chronicles 2 - Flight of the Noldor (First Age)
-AND-

LotR Chronicles 3 - Blackening of Middle-Earth (Last Alliance)

Okay, I know I've gone over Chronicles endless times. So, I'm going to tell you about a certain Dagorlad I'm making. Vindexus, I'm sorry if you think I'm copying you, but I'm not. I started this before I ever learned of your map, and besides, this is a different map anyway. By the way, I'm doing this map because a) Rommel's terrain is teh suckage and b) he's taking way too long to make his map. Therefore I'm making a battle of the Dagorlad. I'll highlight the points of the map in this post.

Locations: All but the locations marked with a * are capturable!
-Cair Andros, the Ship-Fortress
-Osgiliath (and the Citadel of Stars is in it too)
-Port of Pelargir
-Henneth Annun
-Camps of Rhovanion, Numenor, and Lindon
-Morannon*
-Udun Vale
-Durthang
-Plains of Gorgoroth
-Mount Doom, Amon Amarth, Orodruin, etc. etc.
-Minas Morgul
-Barad Dur
-4 Slave Fields of Nurn (think this is right, speaking off the top of my head)
-Port of Nurnen
-Pass of Ephel-Duath
-Pass of Haradwaith
-Camps of Umbar, Haradwaith
-Khand
-Rhun

Other Points of Interest
Special Abilities:
-Reinforcements
-Medics
-Mass/Ping Commander (Observer)
-Cavalry
-Ballistas
-2 Good Specials, Any Ideas Vindexus?
-Boiling Oil
-Armored Trolls (Mumakil for Southrons)
-Nazgul Screech (hee hee)
-Sauron's Mace
-Revive Nazgul

Here is how the players run down:
-Goods (Arnor, Lindon, Gondor, Rhovanion) Heavy Armies
-Nazgul Heavy Heroes, Light Armies
-Evils (Mordor, Southrons) Heavy Armies

So you can tell, this is a mainly army map. And this is 256x256, so it will be as epic a LAST ALLIANCE map can be.

WoA-Felagund's Dagorlad Terrain

*Note* It is the bottom one, the top one... errmm I'm just deleting the older unfinished one.

Explain why 12 of the highest level units takes several barages to kill one hero. Frankly if you want balance you should make a hero die to like 24 low level units.

Feiteng if your talking about the last Alliance map, then no your statement does not make sense. Elendil, Gil Galad, Cirdan, those guys were the GODS of the second age, and of the Last Alliance. They were the reason they got to where they got to, which was Barad-dur. Gil Galad and Elendil could only be struck down by Sauron, so it wouldnt make sense at all to make them so weak.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-08-22 at 15:28:57
Hmmmmm, I'm confused about what statement to answer. Heroes are heroes... that's all I have to say. In fact, I don't know what you were smoking whenever you posted that... it doesn't relate to the new map in this thread. As this is a thread for my LotR - Chronicles maps and not just a single map, I took the time to create a new "mini-thread" for Dagorlad. So the heroes in Dagorlad are powerful enough to take on many units, but they are still vulnerable. Very vulnerable is more like it. Healing either takes time (such as the beacon medic) or for mechanical units it will take resources (like 1 gas, but it will be instant). Let me explain the game strategies for a second. This lies nearly directly between Strategic Warfare and traditional LotR maps. So instead of taking 30 hits (SW) or as low a number as 3-5 (LotR) it will take about 15 hits for the normal unit to kill another normal unit. Heroes have about 2-3x damage, with less than 10x hp, and their armor is about 5-10x stronger. In normal LotR, it would be something like 10x damage, 10x hp, and easily 15-20x armor. Heroes can still take quite a beating, but it's nicely balanced. Instead of being a hardcore tactical game, ala Strategic Warfare, or a simple and fastpaced LotR game, it too lies in the middle. It doesn't draw out battles to the extent of SW, nor is it super-fast like LotR. It goes slow enough to retain a very high amount of strategy while at the same time keeping a moving pace. Oh yes, on the progress. I have finally completed Spawning and Capture Triggers. Now all that is left is the Special and Miscellaneous Triggers. My aim was to make initially wow the public with very nice terrain while keeping enough filling to make a great and fun game without going over the top with super-uber stuff. Instead of uber-crap I'm focusing on the basic thing of all games: gameplay. Remember, this game will not apply to every gamer. Many people dislike this type of map, but many people love it. If there are any testers who are interested PM me. I should have a copy now within a day or two. Some knowledge of Lord of the Rings and most definitely interest in long games is required!

JK, looks pretty good, how are you going to do the boiling oil, sounds pretty sweet.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by feiteng on 2004-08-23 at 11:32:17
You now most lord of the ring games turn out to be a hero fight at the beggining and then a mass attack of units. Maybe if you weaken the heros (not to much) you can encourage people to attack more, while including their heros in the attack.

Hmmm Beta version is complete. This means that most, if not all, of the game features have been implemented. This does not mean, however, that the game is free of bugs (surely there are some), it is perfectly balanced, nor am I done with it. You can expect some updates sometime. I might load a copy onto StarEdit.net once I take out many of the bugs and develop it further.

Beta 1.02 Boiling Oil:
-Simply makes an explosion over the location and sets unit hp to 35%

I'm thinking for newer versions a neat Arbiter and firebat combo, where there is a location where arbiters cloak firebats, firebats are transported to Boiling Oil for like 250 milliseconds, where they are also unallied to Last Alliance, and while remaining cloaked attack the Last Alliance. They would immediately be transported back to the Arbiter location. Good hunting soldier!

--WoA-Felagund

Alright. I've tested Beta 1.02. Here is the list of bugs:

-Secondary Spawns spawn 2x in a row
-Some units are not named yet (lack of information available)
-1 Unit is Unplacable, I'll have to replace it
-Shelob can't burrow (burrow is disabled)
-StarForge deleted the Nazgul Screech.wav

Those are the ones I found. Please notify me if you notice any others. I plan to release the first "public" version tomorrow. This version itself doesn't have any major bugs and from the little testing I did with friends was relatively balanced. It might seem a bit confusing to you. I'll clear up some things (and I'll add this information into the map later; I've been making maps for the past 10 hours smile.gif ).

-"Special" Options with mineral patches beside them cost minerals; geysers=gas
-Massing your observer sends all infantry and cavalry to your observer
-Healing is free for organic units; mechanical cost 2 gas
-To open the gate, move the ultralisk onto the beacon labeled "Gate House"
-Don't lose your heroes
-Try to get a 3v2 game going; this proves to be balanced
-Anti-Hoarding is in effect. Max is 15 in caves, and player specific for each player's maximum army size
-You must control a location to be able to heal there
-Any questions or comments, don't IM me. Just post here. I check regularly.

Things I want to add:
-New boiling oil effect
-Some .wavs (next version will be about 750kb-1mb)

One last things, in early testing some locations could not be captured. I believe I fixed those, but I haven't tested it. So far, the locations we tested were capturable in this version.

hey fel gj on the maps , but if I could make a suggestion , you should really add a small tutorial since it looks like ur gunna make it for general bnet play , for some reason I picture a 10 year old poking around wondering what the hell is happening and why a marine is named elendil the tall , because he thinks templars or w/e are taller yawn.gif
anyway , very nice terrain , i dig the multi-gate thing , it could make it a bit longer and more interesting ^.^ .

Well thank you Melkor. That was very decent of you tongue.gif Anyways I'm adding my boiling oil. If possible it's not going to be a cloaked firebat squad. Instead I'm hoping for some spider-mine thing. And now siege tactics will simply be like 6 scarabs being moved from 1 location to your commander location. Boiling Oil is a fixed location but it's more damaging... I'm trying to figure out how to not rig up the siege tactics... 2 locations (2 sides) of Mordor will do the trick. So you can only siege from the outside. Instead of your commander, you will spawn a corsair. So you have the reavers attacking the building.

Cond: Player 1 brings 1 "Special Chooser" to Location "Siege Tactics"
-Accumulates X amount of Gas
-Switch "Siege Tactics" is cleared
Action: Create 1 "Artillery Commander" (Corsair) at Location "Spawn"
-Set Deaths of "Unused Unit" to 0
-Set Switch "Siege Tactics"
-Preserve Trigger

Cond: _ (P12) commands exactly 1 disruption web (or maybe all players)
Action: Move all catapult boulders (scarabs) from location "Siege Construction" to location "Artillery Commander"
-Remove all corsairs for all Players
-Clear Switch "Siege Tactics"
-Preserve Trigger

Cond: Switch "Siege Tactics" is set
-Current Player has at least 800 (roughly 2 minutes) deaths of "Unused Unit"
Action: Clear "Siege Tactics"
-Remove all corsairs for Current Player
-Add 3 gas (partial refund) to Current Player
-Preserve Trigger

Yeah, I guess you can figure out how this goes along. If "Siege Tactics" is set and a player bring a chooser to the Siege Tactics special, it will just automatically move the civilian to back to the civilian spawner. The last trigger is an anti-gay trigger. I'll be sure to update you on new features of this game.

*Edit* Expect a new version tonight or tomorrow. I'm still waiting for Version Beta to be accepted by the staff!

You could cloak your Firebats using the disable-enable-enable method. Also, what will happen when someone uses disruption web and you have a corsair? Will yours disappear without you being able to use disruptin web?

Thx Vindexus, that Firebat thing should work out REALLY nicely, if I can get it to work. There is a lot of lag when testing with computer players, but it seems to clear up to a certain extent when testing player vs player. Also I'm lazy and only 1 player can control a corsair at a single time. I can easily explain this by saying "the Last Alliance only commands 1 artillery 'batallion' and therefore it cannot fire at 1 place then shortly after fire hundreds of miles away."

Cloaked Firebats will be SOOO cool compared to spider-mines. Also, StarForge is annoying because I can't place ALL player units like P14 and such. Bah that whole P14 map revealer thing is annoying, can you move map revealers? I'm only going to do that if lag is medium - major. If here is little - no lag screw 2x speed. Once again I'll say I'm lazy because ETA on next version will be sometime tomorrow.

For boiling oil could you do the invisible bunker trick? Where you move the bunker?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-08-26 at 01:45:16
No, I'm just doing the invisible firebat thing you told me to do. Gotta make sure it works first though! Oh by the way, this is the official banner of Dagorlad: Battle Plain. Took me about an hour to get all the stuff to make it. Heh.

Maybe it got corrupted somehow whenever I uploaded it. I've already submitted the Beta version. Once someone checks downloads and accepts it you can all play it. I'm not going to re-add an attachment.

*Edit* I've gotten rid of the better part of the lag. Expect a new version tomorrow. I mean it this time!

*Edit @ 4:54 USEast AM* Yawn? Lol. I'm not cloaking the damn firebats! Why you ask? Because it creates sprites. Yes creates sprites. Look't this. Might not be new or anything to you but it was to me!
