Don't go throwing that uber crap around, Yoshi, it will just make people jealous. I'd get rid of that skill level. If I ran the site, that is.

I'm not, but people keep whining about how some people are advanced and didnt do anything to earn it. So, the Uber level must be earned. Its something to strive for smile.gif

<Cough>Arrogant</Cough>

I would suggest not making me uber because all of the people that are jealous of me right now, will just get more jealous

even though I almost understand all the fundamentals of how triggers work, thanks to bolty.

Great now I have to put me Uber skills to work and show Yoshi a good map to earn the rank. happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nozomu on 2004-10-05 at 13:21:15
I think the few experimental maps I submitted (the one or two made by me, at least) are proof of my uber-worthiness, but I still don't think the rank is a good idea.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-10-05 at 13:58:37
I'm not going to do this though, im hoping the global mods or mini moose will do this because they probaly have a better idea of the map makers here than I do.

If only it was made. You can come with the greatest idea and hype it up all you want, but it doesn't matter if the idea isn't executed. Yoshi deserves the Über level for site-running. tongue.gif

The ranking system really doesn't work
unless you only make bolt and tux "ubers"
since u are doing it this way you are making this serious, in that case, if you have Tux and Bolt in "uber" and you make someone else "uber" based on map making skills (like yoshi for ex.) you lower (no offense to yoshi) the "uber" level to yoshi, because obviously bolt and tux are better than yoshi. Get what im saying!? Bit confusing..

You should keep it how it is for its original purpose, so when explaining a map to someone you know how good they are and how much they will know what you are telling them

EXAMPLE: I wouldn't try to explain give-order to someone that has his label as beginner or average.

Again, use it for a tool, not a classification.
Leave the classifying with the quality of maps they produce.

Swap, you have to be reasonable. The skill levels symbolize an AREA of mapping skill. They aren't designed to RANK mappers. What you're talking about there is something like #1, #2, etc. This isn't what we're here for.
BTW, my mapping skill doesn't matter, it's rare I ask for help anyway. :/
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2004-10-05 at 18:35:34
Now that I think about it, we don't need the rank. I think the skill is just what you think of yourself. If you are total n00b but say advanced then you will get complicated help, but thats their problem.

i think the below should be a guide, be free to modify if any of you disagree

Beginner (if any of these apply):
You don't know what a Trigger is
You don't know what a Hyper Trigger is
You don't know what Starforge is
You cannot fully master Triggers
You cannot make a fully playable UMS map with 10+ triggers
You wonder how units magically appear out of nowhere in SC maps

Average (once again, if any applies):
You have no experience using MPQ's
You have no idea what MPQ's are (I really don't either)
You can create a map with hundreds of triggers but may be a little unorganized
You often have trouble figuring out why one part of your map doesn't work

Advanced... this is where I really can't make a rubric.
Someone fill in

The system is NOT for ranking people!
it is used so people can answer the question based on your skill. A beginner may require the exact triggers to be written down. Average may just need the key words with sentences explaining it breifly while Advanced may need just some new ideas/words and can work out the rest.

It CAN save a lot of time when explaining things to someone.

But I like people explaining it thoroughly, so Mine is beginner, I think it's very helpful happy.gif

I dont agree with pcfreds. There could be many more reasons why some one is a begginer or if some1 is advanced. I put my self as begginer when i first joined this site(which was not to long ago) because i didnt know anything about triggers. But now i have learnerd more so i think that i have earned the right to have "average" as my skill.

I'm advanced simply because I know a lot and almost always figure out the problem on my own before asking for help.

Yea, here's my rubruic

NONE
-You don't make maps or
-being told every click of the mouse

BEGINNER
-exact trigger written out, steer clear of cool tricks and complicated methods

AVERAGE
-exact ideas, not necessarily need to write trigger
-can be show most "cheat" mapping tricks

ADVANCED
-Just needs a little shove, doesn't really need much help at all

UBER
-we don't need this rank...

I like this rubric.
Advanced:
Can deal with any problem from any standard map (not using > p15)
Can make death -> money triggers tongue.gif
Mastered triggers (All triggers)
Knows most tricks and things to create a fun map.
Knows how to use death counters
Knows how to use any counters
Knows about 2x and 8x (6x) speeds
Knows how hyper triggers work
Can make a map with more than X triggers (X is not really a number, but if it were it would probably be around 100?)
Knows how to use starforge to make triggers easily
Knows why your map crashes

You guys all know I'm advanced cuz of all teh help I had given tongue.gif
