Easy.... The storyline, You can have the most beautiful terrain, the best sound/music, 100 concept of gameplay... without a storyline, the player will get easilly bored....

Only if the person playing likes a storyline, else they want carnage and action, it matters towards who your want to like your map.

Wow i made a prety long thread...

the reason I made this is because we need to know what makes a good rpg... What do people like in it... How do they want it made...

Now everyone can come in here, look at the poll, and see what they should try to develop the most and what should be worked on but not needed.

Y'all talk to much.. Hehe. Game play most important than all, then you can screw around with the rest of the crap.. ASLONG as you have gameplaY!

no I mean a RPG where you can choose if you are going to that easy, know region or that other dangerous one but where you maybe find treasures, or to go the big city to buy some good stuff and became member of the mage clan there.... And where you could choose if you buy a animal which will carry stuff for you or buy a new armor, or buy extra food and other survivel kids for if you get lost or somthing... And where you can choose if you're a bad guy and rob inocent people while they are alone in the wilds or that you become a bounty hunter or that you just live on your own and don't bother anyone as long they don't bother you....
Or... And... etc. etc.
THAT's what I mean, but I now that it is next to imposible to make all this kind of stuff work in starcraft I'm satisfied with (much) less.... But not with an other action/adventure hero game where you have to kill everything that comes your way or save the local princes from the bad wizard or something....

I like rpgs with good gameplay, well thought out spells/abilitys, the terain, and somthing that isnt complicated just simple easy to use well thought out spells/abilitys i find that when its to confusing people tend to just quit

If you want real RPG, play a MMORG, they get the closest to it.

But it is cool to make a almost-real-RPG with a editer like Staredit which is limited in many ways, isn't it ?
Same as being able to hack a protected pc(/network) with you started with nothing
(but I'm working on a almost-real-RPG and not on hacking computers..... for now.... :P nah just kidding )

Yup, this is true. In my opinion, it is gameplay that is important, but Terran has an important place too. In over all, everything is important, thats what makes a good or a bad RPG, an RPG with a good balance between all is good, one that have a too good gameplay and a sucky terran is bad and vise versa.

Without a good storyline, an RPG wont be good no matter how terrain and triggers are set up

TIP: If you consider making an RPG, don't. This is one of those things that should only be attempted by God, the son of God, an angel of God, or some division of God.

The point with the lines is that the terrian is so plain, it's just walls and a straight line of enmies, then you do it again and over and over again after a few bosses the game is over.

Then the makers of Final Fantasy 7, or Ragnarok Online are Gods? I dunno...

Sala is trying to be extreme because he hates unfinished project as it were. You can make an RPG but take the time to make sure it is what you wanted and works correctly.

PS: Sala don't say "Dont even try" I've never finished a map but all the experiance that ive had doing triggers and then give up makes me better... I can do loads of things without thinking now.

Everyone make maps give up if you want at least you learn the triggers... Thats how I started...

But announcing them and then a week later giving up annoys him...

i did not vote because i believe there is more than one importan point to making an rpg, in fact it takes a good balance of all the points to make a good rpg, having a poor part in any one of the cataigories makes the rpg become horriable and, well, you get the idea. and saying only gods can create rpgs, well god created THE rpg, it's called life. sometimes there is a happy ending some times there isn't, but i'm getting off topic, gods aren't the only ones who can create rpgs, i believe everyone and their dog has a fair chance to make an rpg, so try! put as much time and effort in the rpg as you feel you need, make it the best you can so you can stand proudly as say "i made that rpg"

all that about God has nothing to do with this topic.
