this looks SWEEET! any idea when it will come out?
Yeah that matrix banner sure does make it appealing doesn't it.

Makes you wanna jump right in and start playing right now.

I told you guys, wait a week or two. I'll have all of the attack moves and special abilities finished, and I'll make a single player (you are the one) battle that is called "burly brawl". This is mainly to test all the abilities for debugging purposes and just for showing off.
The actual map will be released this summer, and not later because we do not want release it during Starcraft: Ghost.
Hah, you are already thinking like a programmer, dodging release dates of popular hits.
Programmer? More like a minor company. Banner, needs some work!
I think its great, but direct all your suggestions to swap in this topic.
Im sorry to report this is the 256 post in this thread. Since the threads here at Staredit.net only use 1 byte to store reply’s per thread. No one will be able to post after me.
In case your wondering what a byte is a byte is composted of 8 bits. A bit is a on and off indicator like a switch. All computer programs and information can be reduced to bits. 256 is the max amount 8 combinations in one byte. Therefore if anyone post after this it will use the same bit combination as the first post and will just be a copy of that. (if it allows it at all) Its been a good thread
[/bs]
Actually the post ID isn't stored in byte. Its Integer with a value of 10. Very big.
oooooh, integer!
( ) (yeah i know int float long etc.)
saw the screenshots yoshi, skyscrapers look awesome, and i can't help but notice...
wow. you have changed starcraft from a game half as old as me into virtually a new programming platform, and, dare i say, a new type of canvas for an artist?
i'm not gonna bother sneaking into your test games (any more)

the map is gonna freeze up my current processor (in case if u all never bothered to care, my new super awesome tech computer is being shipped back to fix its dead mobo)
Meh... the only thing you could do with SC now is tweak maps until they're completely tweaked out. And they're almost completely tweaked out already (with the limits that they have). Much of the maps is understood (the format), except for those values that we have no idea wtf they are (and are probably not relevant anyway).
I was reading this and I opened up the map again to look around from when you were letin' me peek... hehehe... And Jesus Christ... Those parking spaces are yummy! ("Yummy" in a b*tchin' way, not a tastey way...)
can you like upload what u have done for us to see? or post more pics at least

The terrain isn't any more proccessor insensive than a standard melee map. Its just that the tiles are placed in a creative way. This is Similer to how people make mini map pictures, except for a differant purpose.
Bolt is correct. Its loaded in the same way as normal terrain. Starcraft looks at it tile by tile, and places each one seperately.
But of course, with units and sprites, it will run slower than a standard melee.
It will have a warning about increased system requirements. There will be many triggers, many units & sprites & sounds & music.
Music in the Starcraft.mpq you make will not be a problem at all, you can even use mp3's if you ask Quantum nice enough. Its the actual triggers and whats in them that will matter, Strings run off an 2/4 bit system, at most, while units run off a larger list, far larger!

mp3's? And whos quantum?

Oh i see since standard melee games don't have units and sprites Maxtrix will lag more. [/sarcasm]
The beginning of games have the most lag, and since your have far more units and sprites at the beginning than a Standard Melee. [Reply]
Quantum is one of the programmers who made some of those lovely programs for MPQ Editing and such. MPQDraft is his i believe, and another called ThunderCraft which allows Starcraft to play pure mp3s, else it doesn't work.
I'll keep it wavs, because its simple and you dont need any extra things.
Quantam is the person that first reverse-engineered MPQ's. He's also the person who has been doing articles on CC for different SC file formats. You can see him at #smemp most of the time.
hey yoshi, how long did it take for you to find the sounds/music for your map?
Not very. Its a matter of learning the song titles.
The songs are half the reason this is based upon the matrix. Deathknight came up to me and said "LOOK! SKYSCRAPERS!". I asked if we could make a map with a city in it, work as a team. He okay'ed it, and since I had a bunch of matrix music pieces, I figured, what the hell. Matrix map it is.
Besides, the movie broke some barriers in the movie making industry. Lets do the same for the map making.
Sounds absolutely mind-blowing.
