Any chance of being able to change the speed of the regen/shield timers?

That is a constant, so yes. Right DoA?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-09-30 at 10:56:55
Yeah, it is. Most of those things that seem to be constants are easily edited. However, there are some cases when they aren't. One of those is the amount of HP a CC needs to be infested. That actually happens to be proportional to the total hp, so it's not something I can easily edit. I can change some things about it...but not much.

Hmm. I don't care about the 'double post', seeing as how I posted 20 days ago. Anyway, you can assume that for 14-18 of those days(give or take, I don't remember), I wasn't able to work on FG. Meaning if you have a relative date or something, push it back again. Hey, I have to keep up with homework first. smile.gif

Pull a corbo! Be like "freak you, it's Firegraft!"

Just stop giving a release date/time, I say. Simply say that "it's progressing", "expect it rather sooner than later", "it's coming" and "There we are folks smile.gif". You will avoid the stress from not working 'enough' and people won't fall into emotions too easily.

Heh, it was just a guess before. Besides, I can still make it. wink.gif (DON'T BELIEVE THAT!)

It actually is coming quite well. You can all wait for more news later. smile.gif

Thank you for ruining my naive faith in software developers; you have completely destroyed my faith that Duke Nukem Forever was coming out sometime soon tongue.gif

OK, so I don't care about Duke Nukem. But I do care about Firegraft...come on, DoA, pleeeease release sometime soon, or I think I will cry.

Believe it or not, but most software developpers are humorous when it comes to work, even if they are paid for it. They have periods of "strong drive" to work and periods of "strong break" from work, when they only pretend they're doing something, also trying to convince themselves about this. I know I am like this, and I know many other programmers who are like this too smile.gif

Did I share any secret here? No, I'm just stating the obvious, and the sooner one accepts it, the better. Having made peace with myself about this, and realising this about myself, my workout has actually improved, because I don't concentrate anymore on what "I should be doing instead of...". When I want to do something - I approach it seriously - if I don't, I just don't do it smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-10-23 at 13:00:21
That's so true BK. One thing I will say about it is that during those strong periods, (at least as far as I can tell), a lot more gets done that is expected.

I'd say it's not about making or even finding time to work. It's about that time falling during a period of wanting to work. I've had times right after spending 8-9 hours straight on FG that I don't want to touch the code for a while. Does that make it wrong to not work on it? No, I don't think so. I'm not arguing that I 'should' have been done much sooner than this, I'll agree to it. I will, however, tell you why I am not. First, I am learning good programming techinques as I go. BK can tell you, my first version of FG was a coding nightmare. Since then, I've been learning all the little things that make good programs. Getting into a CS class has really helped over the past month or two. Second of all, I can only guess at how long it takes me to code a paticular function. I've had times where I expect to be there for about 2 hours on something and it took me 10 mins to figure out. The reverse of that is also true. It's hard to pin down how long it really should take. That's why I've stopped doing that.

I'll tell you all this - I did get a little done over the weekend. Not much, but a little.

One I haven't seen, apart from the other comments/suggestions I made...

Cloaking field (arbiter) which I think might be hardcoded (bleh tongue.gif) - make it cloak only ground or only air as opposed to both how ti is now smile.gif

or a bigger area/smaller, or maby cloak buildings too??

don't get me started biggrin.gif I am crazy enough to actually think of a list of what and not to cloak too... (I mean like every unit is cloakable except for Danimoth and the Arbiter itself). But that is a lot of work, but I'd say it includes a few CMP fields added... which, might be doable already in MemGraft if you're crazy enough to do the cloaker script from the arbiter from scratch (I dunno anyone that crazy yet) and add a few more uit ID checks... bleh...

Hey Im willing to learn, heck ive been trying to learn but im kinda lost in which programs to use and how to do it all for scripts of the AI sort.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by h3ih02 on 2006-11-07 at 19:27:11
Here are a few ideas i was thinking of. Im not sure which are possible or too hard to do but they would be amazing to have.
  • Be able to edit/add/delete triggers and conditions, for Breifing too.
  • Be able to modify StarEdit to support the new mod.
  • Add more colors and things like overlap(underline, bold, blink, etc) for game text.
  • More locations and switches.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-11-07 at 19:43:26
Well, I'm not the one to talk to about those kinds of things. The first is a little hard, but not impossible. But, I wouldn't try it. There've been a few who have...but nothing worth releasing, iirc. As for the second one...what's to change? You can use MPQDraft to load an MPQ into staredit. the stuff that FG edits you don't really need in Staredit...

The last two would require chaing a lot about SC's map format. Probably too much to practically do.

BTW: IF YOU HAVE MSN, I"M LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO TEST A SAMPLE FG PATCH. IM ME(see profile). The less problems I have, the faster things go.

The fix crashed... sad.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-11-08 at 17:49:13
sad.gif You need to debug the problem then. But, seeing as how you're never on when I am anymore...

Anyway, you'll need the old version to check unless you want to do it the hard way.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-12-14 at 11:14:56
I should kill this thread and replace it before it's misery gets any worse.

Anyway, this is for anyone who is beta testing right now for me.

Would you mind having the Exe Edit system redone to make it much easier to use on both mine and your sides? The drawback is that old .fgp files won't be openable if they have exe edits. I can strip out the edits for you and allow you to open the file so you don't lose any work...

Say yea or nay...wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-12-14 at 11:16:48
yea
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2006-12-14 at 11:40:11
Well, if you can strip out the edits so we don't lose the .fgps, I think that'd be fine... (I've already converted NW to a .fgp project, I'd hate to lose all that work. wink.gif )
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ojan on 2006-12-14 at 11:59:15
Yes. It's better to remake it now than in half a year, when the damage would be much greater.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lord_Agamemnon(MM) on 2006-12-14 at 12:38:59
I agree. Do it now, while it's still relatively painless. We can then just re-adjust the exe edits to what we want, right?
