I hate how I am finding many people saying "they deserved it". So basically, people are saying they deserve to die since they were born in Louisiana/Mississippi in a poor family and unable to leave the state (I know this doesn't necessarily apply to every single person there). And I read earlier, specifically DK's post, that they should build better defenses since they are in a hurricane area. Defense against a hurricane is difficult, and besides, what would they do? Spend a lot of money on making walls that "could" cause even more damage? I just wish that more people were actually sympathetic. After all, the majority of the people stuck there were unable to leave.

Yes that is the problem that must people dont understand is that some people dont own cars or have relatives in other places to go as there entire life is base in that city so what else would they do but hope and pray. It will take Months maybe years for New orleans to ever go back to normal i mean they say that children will be out of school for months and the only time repairs will truly begin is when the levys that were broken on several areas have to be rebuilt and water pumped out plus they have sewage, snakes, and disease from the dead that if they dont recover fast enough my cause the problem to grow. It Also makes me sick that americans would sink so low to rob in a city that was just struck with such a disaster i mean ive heard people who have stolen a mail truck and drove around with Rifles. People are on top of roofs of banks defending them from robbers and over such disgusting scavengers of this Country. Dont judge other countrys for its only the 4th day you may never know whos really helping or giving aid in the present or Future(They can only help if America lets them and does america care about its pride more then its citizens?) Yes Gas prices are going up so watch how you spend your money if you do own a automobile. ermm.gif

Even though they should of left. Really the stuff is gonna get messed up anyway. But even I would stay because I dont want anyone to jack my $#!T up or jack it for that matter.

Good Lord. "300 Iraq hardened national guardsmen with shoot-to-kill orders." Maybe it is necessary though. 'Tis a dark day in America's history indeed.

QUOTE(Felagund @ Sep 1 2005, 08:25 PM)
This is a horrible, horrible disaster. The death toll is possibly much higher than the World Trade Center losses. Not only that, but the damage done to the actual integrity of the city is horrendous. Still, the loss of life will always outweigh material things. The city can be rebuilt, but the dead cannot be brought back.  cry.gif

WHAT!? The death toll is most likely around 1000. Thousands less than WTC. Think realistically, people down there know what to do when a hurricane comes now and they are usually prepared.
QUOTE(Deathknight @ Sep 1 2005, 09:10 PM)
I'm not saying they deserved it, but I do have to say "theyhad it coming". Those areas are known for hurricanes, they should have at least used different building materials and structural designs to protect against this kind of stuff.

Why the heck would they build a city below sea level anyway? That's suicide.
Well, people are "looting" because they can. I can't blame them. They need food and stuff to live too, so yeah, people are going to take whatever is available.

I think the gas prices going up is a good thing. It will force people to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, or vehicles that don't run on gas, which will reduce the amount of pollution produced daily.

I'm sure they were thinking 'I bet this is below sea level ... I wonder if we should be thinking about hurricanes - a not well known natural disaster at this period of time - before we build this'.

I was referring to American media in general, not SEN. I'm sorry if you misunderstood, but don't act like I don't care, but the fact of the matter is, THE USA IS NOT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD.

Oh right, because American media definately ignores all the other disasters worldwide. Open you eyes and see that you are wrong. The media in the US is not ethnocentric, or at least not the media I watch and read.

A lot of people are placing blame on the people that live there for being stupid enough to live there in the first place. Has anyone addressed the fact that most of the people who live there were BORN there? And that's all they know. It wasn't really their choice. For alot of them, leaving was not an option cuz they had no where to go, no money to leave, no car, etc.

All I pointed out was that the building designs are the same cheap crap built all over North America. After every disaster, they rebuild their houses with wood and bricks. You think they'd have learned by now.

And I'm sure they did, but you're implying the move the entire city or should have never built one there in the first place. Its just like saying 'don't live in the south because of hurricanes'.

Well to that anyone could easily start saying 'don't live in the west because of earthquakes, don't live in the midwest because of tornado's, don't live anywhere because of so-and-so natural disaster that potentially occurs there'.

If we could not live where we wanted to or could adjust to, what would be the point of living and any form of civilization anyway? Condemning people becuase of where they live is pathetic and immature. Some of them have no choice, and some could have been there becuase of an obligation.

Well, technically people of the States are Americans. It just that we sometimes think we are the only ones who matter.

QUOTE

Well it is centralized around the States in the US, just as local news focuses on the local news unless something big happens. We can't always stop to think about the poor guy who's suffering because of situation whatever. We've got our problems. Although we should stop to think about them. If some don't wanna help, and they can't help themselves, who can help them?

For the most part you are correct. Although there is the uber-wierd instance that we would never predict would happen in a thousand years come and cause more damage becuase of the materials used. But of course it would have to be small incident to change how we think, and anything that unoccuring would likely to be big anyways. You are correct.

The local news always has an international portion, same with local news papers, but they generally leave most of the international news to the big guys like CNN or FOX.

If you like T-shirts! Then go here to the Bungie Store! They'll be selling T-shirts and donating 99% of the profits to the Red Cross.

Bungie "Fight the Flood" T-Shirt

Bungie kicks ass.

But there are some downright idiotic people left in New Orleans, such as snipers who don't let people out of buildings, looters who take stuff such as jewelry, TV's and other electronics, and expensive clothes and shoes from like Foot Locker and other such stores, and armed gunmen who shoot at rescue helicopters.

New Orleans is going to be transformed into a lake partially.
They need to use pumps nonstop to make it inhabitable again.
My mom predicts that in the end there will be lakes where the poor black people used to live and the richer areas will be pumped dry and thoroughly cleaned up.
She's probably right. The government is pretty racist like that.

Hopefully people won't be stupid and will decide to give the earth it's first abandoned city (Sci Fi stories come to life crazy.gif ) and rebuild someplace else less vulnerable.
There's no point in rebuilding a city if it's going to be destroyed every 100 years or so (maybe less).

They can't accept the fact that the city is completely destroyed and that they don't have to go back. Pumping out water is just going to waste more money. I say it should be left as is and everyone should just be compensated and get on with their lives somewhere else.
