So just because he only feels 'alive' on the battlefield means that off it he's emotionless and cold hearted? I'm not going to point out things from the story that backup what I'm saying because if anyone ever does play it it will ruin a lot of the game. I'm just leaving it open.

chu, you do realize that this game is SEVEN YEARS OLD?
@felagund: I was never into Warhammer that much, since it's hard finding opponents to play table top with and that it is said the game is unbalanced compared to Starcraft... but it seems like quite a gem from what you said there.
@Ultimo: I don't know what Zelda your playing, but Zelda SPECIFICALLY says at the end of the game, "Six sages... Now!". Get your facts straight buddy.
I'm not going to argue about Chrono Trigger, since I have never played it. I don't like cliche stories however, so if that isn't the case, I may like CT.
@Golden-Fist: I never said that the developers said that. Find me where I said it and I will gladly admit a wrong. What I inferred from the game was that it would be realistic, because of the common references to historical events.
There is a big difference between realism from this game and a game like FF. FF basically admits it's unreality since it's a world with dragons, magic and the like. MGS seems more realistic since it makes direct links to history, which us, the players can relate to, in addition to the modern details such as tanks, guns and warehouse architecture. If you can not see how MGS looks similar to the modern world of today, you'd be lying.
Obviously Metroid isn't a realistic game, nor does it try to be. However, it distances itself from our time by a couple thousand years and it is different what my perception of the future is compared to yours. The main reason I find the story interesting is that it's told ENTIRELY from the enemy or Chozo point of view. You read their diaries, reports and scriptures and see what THEY think, so you get to know them based on what they write about, which is something I haven't seen before.
I do see your point that the cliche the game since you just happen to lose all weapons in every game, but there's more to the story than collecting items. The overall story of the planet and the negative effect that a foreign asteroid has on it is interesting, since blame isn't on a particular bad person, but rather nature.
I'm not saying the story is bad because of one example. In fact, I never said it was a bad story in the first place. It has great complexity and a super long script and cutscenes that take nearly 3 hours. What I find confusing is connecting odd elements like cloning, nanomachines that antifreeze your blood and abnormal psychic powers to real world events like the Cold War.
Good day.
