Just make sure you max out all the easy things, damage, hp, range, etc...

Since when could you mod Starcraft..........?

I don't know anything about modding, but it seems there should be an obvious best unit that everyone will use. TT

Ever since Starcraft came out, you could mod. There just wasn't any programs when it first came out to mod it.

Since you have been here for some time, you didn't notice the modding forums.

I normally don't post much here.. but I really don't get the point of this tournament, as in what everyone is supposed to do.

Is everyone supposed to just mod their race and all play the same defense map? if that's the case, would the attacks use your modified units?

Also, what's the whole point of making an entire race? why not, lets say your terran, just make the scvs and marines do everything that you would ever need to do? Full range, rapid fire, full damage, etc... that is more of a question of why bother call it making a "race" when everyone can just mod the cheapest units to hell.

My question is not what is the point of doing the tournament.. but what do the people participating actually have to DO.

Modify a race so that it is the most deadly.

I liked the Slyence verson better then the DTBK verson.

DTBK's one is too long term and harder. It also requires more commitment.

Make something easy so everyone can do it.

I got that much, lol. How do you make it so mods can be multi-player compatible? That is the first part I never quite understood.

Secondly, how does the game work to test who's race is the best? You mention a defense map and who lives the longest.. but can you give me details of this? I still don't quite understand it.

I actually am interested in applying for the tournament, btw, so don't feel like you are wasting you time. But I feel that in order to apply, I need to understand what the heck I am doing first.

I have two questions. Sorry, I didn't take a look at the thread but I doubt they're there.

First, Can you make a team of two? This question is related to my second.

Second, Could it be possible for a change of rules so that you could include your own custom made graphics created in a modelling program? I would participate if it were so, But then again..I don't know much about Starcraft modding Thus its why I'm suggesting a team of two. The relation to my First Q, I Could create custom graphics and someone from my team would be working on applying them and all the settings for the new unit.

Of course, I'm not only talking about myself, I'm pretty sure there are some modders who have problems in some areas and not in some.

Bah, Only a suggestion. Take it lightly or not at all if you will.

I don't get it we have to find a unit

Wow, I'm not even going to bother explaining it. If you don't get the first post, then I don't even think you are worthy of even making a mod.

Hmm, perhaps judge creativity and originality. I mean, making a race utterly unstoppable is not too hard to do, but to do it in style would be something different and interesting.

That's why my original had some player v. player action...

Sly's was broken. How do you hide a unit on the minimap?

Err there's nothing prohibiting GRP modification other than that it's pointless happy.gif. "Each unit must have a sprite assigned to it" means you can't have something that is sprite-less and has no image at all.

How it works:
The way we will judge this is by, your modification will be played by you, or the judges. You will have 10-15 minutes to completley build your base and your units (Much like a defence). There will be constant waves of enemy forces pounding your base.

Two sentences. That is how much description you gave to how this tournament works. Four, actually, if you count the fact you copy pasted. Do not ricidule me because I want details on how you are actually going to run this thing and how you want us to play your defense map. Also, I don't think anyone can say who is "worthy of modding" and who isn't, because I know at one time you knew absolutely nothing about modding, yet you seem pretty worthy, hmm?

Now, please, will you tell me how you plan to run the tournament you are running? I would like to apply, but as I had already mentioned, I would like more details on what exactly I have to do. For example, will the units attack after and only after the 15 minute preparation period is up? Will we play our race with other people playing their race in the game, with judges present? Will the attacking units be on a mod that you create?

Admittably, I am probably not as knowledgable as you are in modding, which is why you are running a competition for it and I just play around with it every now and then. But I don't know how to do multiplayer modding with different mods, and I don't realize how you want to run this. If you want to expand this competition to include more people, I personally believe you should be more compassionate to the average person such as I am.

I am not trying to start a fight or anything, and I am sorry if I came off that way initially. I just want some respect, and hopefully some information about the tournament you are hosting so I can have a possibility of entering it... you go over all the modding restrictions very well, because that's what you're probably really good at it, but I am more intersted in the basics of the competition. Thanks ahead of time.

Uhh, I'm not going to do anything but I'm curious. Can you change a race to be exactly the same as another, then change it from there? (Example: All Zerg sprites changed to terran sprites; all zerg unit commands changed to what a terran unit would do; make the 4 zerg buildings that provide creep not provice creep; and everything else needed to make it terran)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-09-25 at 16:06:38
Yes, but you can't change the building/unit tree because of restriction #4. Other than that, yes.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tearshed on 2005-09-25 at 19:56:17
unless its pvp sprite change is pointless, but if it is pvp then just a black dot can count as a sprite and go thru the rules. make a minimum sprite size or ignore it completly.

Dont you just love ice? this will be easy

ADDITION:

What about what were facing? How powerful will the oncoming forces be etc?

Aaaaaaand

You said no invincibe UNITS so that means invincible buildings.
