Kellimus ought to be the poster child for improving the public school systems. "K, here I am, 17 and someone over the internet is saying they're twelve and they love me. I love them back! Okay, ignoring the possibility that it's bullblam and they googled up their pictures, I'm gonna meet her! Okay, ignoring the fact that it's statutory rape if we have sex, and a list of other crimes, and ignoring the fact that there's going to be an age and intelligence gap (well maybe not in his case), and that the relationship will more then likely break apart due to different interests and different mindsets, I'LL LOVE HER FOREVER"

But to be on topic, an internet relationship is a lot less sure then a real life one. They could simply go to another service and you'd have no way of every contacting them again. They could lie to you, and there's no tone of voice to pick up on. They could change their SN, they could set you to ignore, they could simply never sign on again. They come and go, and since you're largely unknown to each other, it's not really a strong relationship. People like to believe everything they're told, so that they think they know these persons, but we're all really just good acquaintances at best.

Hah, in Kellimus's situation it would actually be considered rape because he's like 19 and the girl is like 11 or something like that.

Huh? 19-11...
Ummm...
19-1...=18...
Um...
Oh ya...
18-10=... uhh... 8...
Wait, since when does 8=4?

I didnt mean a girlfriend type thing, for christ sakes, your not going to get raped by her. So shut the hell up. I meant like a dude who you talk to over the web every once and awhile. Not some skinny chick 5 years younger.

Hmm... 14 is less than 18? Wow! You are pathetic.

And you, too.

All of you are idiots. You fail to read my replies.

"Let us all bash on Kellimus because he was decieved by a 14 year old!"

Yeah!

Get a life you guys. And learn some basic arithmatic, also.

So by dating someone that lied to him, he must be dishonest? I'm not seeing the logic here.

You guys are pathetic!

I never said he was dishonest; I said that for the most part, people online can't be trusted (and can't really be known). He was rabidly disagreeing, and then was proved wrong by wesmic_da_pimp, who told of a story proving what I said (where he was lied to by someone online wink.gif).

Please show me where I said that he was dishonest for believing his internet girlfriend. Naive, yes, but not dishonest. If I said it, it was an accident, but I'm 99% sure that I didn't.

I still am disagreeing with what you say because there was truth to her story. The only thing she lied about was her age, her pictures, and her name.

So therefore, you cannot say that everyone cannot be trusted.

I agree with CaptainWill. You shoot out your issue to vaguely and expect everyone to get it just how YOU want it to be.

You didn't say that he was dishonest, but you did imply that he was when you made the following ambiguous statement:

From what you said, though, his honesty meter sucks.

That looks like an accusation of dishonesty, which is why people are getting irate about it.

I meant, "meter for detecting honesty", which I thought was clear considering my other comments.

I think its much less because people do tell more over the internet, but how do you know any of its true? I could say my girlfriend is coming over so I won't be on and they could not say I'm lying. People who think its more I have a strange feeling that perhaps they don't have to much of a non-internet social life so they pretend to be someone else over the internet. drunk.gif

I know most of the clan members pretty well ([sMg]) and a couple of Danish people from WoW.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MapUnprotector on 2005-10-14 at 16:06:21
The only thing you can really know about someone is that they are there talking to you right now, spending there time doing that.

And if it's on Starcraft and say a clan member and you play with them mostly everyday, then you know that they are taking there time everyday talking and gaming with you.

Those things aren't lies. However, any personal information might be a lie, but who cares. Online "relationships" or "friendships" aren't based on personal things, but a common interest like say Starcraft.

And really, it's the internet, even if they are lying to you it doesn't really matter. If you've played with someone on SC for a year and talked to them for all that time, but one day found out they lied about some personal stuff, it doesn't change the fact that they've spent time with you for that long.

I think Absolute and Kellimus are on opposite extremes of "knowing" people on the internet.

Haha, in a way it's sort of ironic. I don't think that you can judge if "internet friends" are good or bad, because some people on the net might be good people while some other people could potentially be bad. Also, a good example of meeting people on the net then meeting them in real life is when....you play CS! ! ! If you're scrimming with your friend and he beings in another friend you "meet" him online, and he could possibly go to your school. You could then meet him at..school.

Yes, I know lots of people over in the internet in REAL life.

Yoshi from Canada, Yoshi's face from SEN, and his voice from xbox live. He was only on XBL for one time. sad.gif

Kow, the girl guy who likes pink, and his freaky almost girlie voice frmo xbox live.

MaThRiX(U), who looks like eminem, other than that, he's from Canada.

IP, I know what he looks like, but I don't have him over at xbox live. sad.gif

I have known REAL people from where I live is ammount of 72 people.

You need to quit bringing back OLD TOPIC disgust.gif

On Topic

Well, knowing people, and actually KNOWING people, are two different things (As I have now finally been taught)

For example: I thought I knew a chick in Mississippi. Her name is Tiffany, she is 17, she lives in Jackson, she has a cousin named John, her mother has passed away, her father is in jail, she lives with her aunt who just had surgery.

I know her. But I do not KNOW her.

Last night, she proceded to tell me that all the pictures she has shown me (Of her and her "Friend") that she was the friend. I was like, Uh Oh.

Because i'm a bit shallow, and I told her that her friend was pretty cute, but a little bit (And I told her a tiny, tiny bit) bigger than I would like. She freaked out (I thought she was just defending her friend)

Well. It turns out it was really her! Haha! I was like, Well shiz Watson. We cannot continue to dig in this shiz any farther. Our reasonings are inconclusive (Sorry. Had a "wanna-be logical sounding mabob" impulse tongue.gif)

Ah. And then another girl that I know (The chick from Missouri) told me that someone I thought was real, was made up tongue.gif (Eastern chicks are farked up, you know that?)

I thought I KNEW her... But guess not *Shrugs*

So I have learned: Trust only those you meet in real life, and only trust them to an extent. You may trust people you encounter on the internet, but be weary, for they can toy with your mind and fark it all up to hell.

Have fun ^_^

On the internet it is less personal since You cant see anything about them, except for what they say. They may post a photo or something, but that may just be some picture they found on Google.

But they still can be as good of friends; they may be lying, but they may not be. But a "real" friend could still be lying to you about certain things.

Also, with internet friends it does not seperate you into "groups", like "real" people can be seperated by age, gender, interest, etc. On the internet, you like the same things since you are doing the same things (to an extent.

On battle.net and SEN I have friends who are male and female and of many ages. "Real" friends only about 2 are female and they are all my same age or 1 or 2 years younger or older.
And not very many people share my same interests at school... One other person does calc programming stuff, but that is as close as it gets (one person said he was interested in "learning the ways of the computer", but he also said he was too lazy..) And with burning things, everyone just says "soak styrofoam in gas", they know nothing. And with Starcraft, if you even say "starcraft" you better be saying something bad about/making fun or suddenly everyone hates you... I still have not figured out why..
