Sorry, I forgot about that DTBK.

If the government would implement the voucher system, public education would be fine.

That's why it sucks. It spends so much money on useless things.

Tell me the truth, is everyone in your class that motivated? If not, they're wasting money. It's ridiculous.

As for the poll, it's pretty obvious most people lied.

In the past, A's for normal classes, B's for most AP/honors classes.
But right now... C's and D's now laugh.gif

Senioritis is kicking in... badly. I pulled off a 70.52 6 weeks average for AP Economics this semester (69 and below is failing in our state.)

Oh my gosh, this sounds like me, well, I'm still getting A's and B's bleh.gif but yeah, Economics is brainnumbing blink.gif too much different stuff on supply, demand, curves n' stuff pinch.gif

8k Dollar per Student!?!?! Oh man, my school is in so much debt, they just took all the AP/DE Funds from the Teachers to help pay it off lol! I guess thats what happens when you go to a school thats about 70 years old and is run by silly old people at the county office closedeyes.gif

But, I am just not motivated to complete anything. It's too easy. Anyone else have that problem? Because, damn... It is killing me!

Lack of motivation = procrastination = starting homework at 10:00 = shoddy work = still A's.

Wow. What is the average grade for most students in the USA? Almost all of you have insane averages around 90%+. Are all of you really that intelligent?

I think it would be interesting to compare how students in the USA would do if they moved to a Canadian school. Somebody told me that a fail in USA is around 70 percent. A fail in Canada is below 50. Class averages are around 65. Is this because school is harder here?

Oh, Im hanging just below 80, around 78-79%

Averages to get into Falculty of Sciences (at the University) is 79% this year.

At A-Level in the UK, the grade boundaries are like this:

A - 80%
B - 70%
C - 60%
D - 50%
Phail - <50%

I expect the Canadian system is based on the UK system, what with it being a former Dominion of the Empire and all, which is why the grades seem similar.

I know that UK school is a lot more difficult than US school, so the grade boundaries are adjusted accordingly. I've looked at some American Regents papers and they looked pretty simple. Multiple choice wtf?

SATs is what ultimatly grades you so you can go to college and I got to admit, it is easy since I get straight A+'s. But, most people are slackers.

A lot of kids seem "dumb" in the USA and fail because we are like... the lazy country. We do have one of the highest educational ciriculums though. Just that a lot of kids don't try. Lot's of kids talk during class in my school so i can see why a lot fail though. A's for me biggrin.gif

Isn't the UK Education System quicker ( or more compact/shorter?) than that of the US' and they graduate sooner? I'm not sure if that would make education easier or more difficult depending on what/how much is taught

And Yeah, "What SAT Score Did You Get?" would probably be a better way to measure Subject Mastery (Yes, Subject Mastery, not Intelligence!) on here rather than "What Letter Grade Did you Get?" (For Americans Anyways). Of course, if you put that up for poll, 75% of the people on here would 'supposedly' have gotten about a 1600 closedeyes.gif (not including the Writing Portion)

Well, it can be shorter or it can be the same length. The last two years are optional.

i.e. Age 11-16 = GCSE (compulsory); Age 16-18 = A-Level (optional)

Man I would haven't gotten that last B if I had that grading scale
A- 93-100
B- 85-92
C- 78-84
D- 70-77
F- Below 70

The reason we have multiple choice is because you can use machines to grade em much quicker, and without error. The schools in my area are struggling with overpopulation and lack of teachers. So multiple choice is the teachers easy way out.

Well you need to take them if you go to University/College in the USA. And yeah the UK system is the same as the one in Canada. I never knew the failing mark was 70% in the United States. That is why when I was reading through some people were saying that and 85 was only a B and I was going ?? because it would be an A here.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-02-16 at 19:01:31
I still think that multiple choice is a pretty bad idea if you're going to test actual intelligence and argument skills. History, for example, is all essay-based over here - you have to really know your stuff to put a coherent argument together - it's so easy to tell when someone doesn't know what they're talking about.

Example question:
'To what extent can the domestic policy of Gladstone's 1868-74 ministry be described as successful?'

You would be expected to write 3+ sides of A4 on this. Firstly, you'd have to define 'successful' i.e. what makes a successful ministry, and then make your argument, using evidence and bringing in and analysing the opinions of historians. It isn't difficult when you've done it for years, but if you can't write a good argument and you don't know the subject of the question in great detail then you're screwed.

I reckon multiple choice can be bluffed through if you have enough common sense and a general knowledge of the subject because the questions tend to be leading and even if you don't know the answer, then tenuous knowledge of the subject allows you to eliminate answer choices by deduction.

I mean, look at this sample question I found from regents papers on a website:
QUOTE
In almost every society, the problem of scarcity must be dealt with because

(1) resources are limited
(2) governments tend to overspend on the military
(3) farmers tend to overestimate their crop yields
(4) goods are distributed evenly

Well, it's pretty obvious...

Not all of us are of age to take the SAT I. I took it two years ago for fun and scored 1270/1600, it's ridiculously easy.
