I tend to find Dells to be decent and reliable, just majorly overpriced and very hard to upgrade. Hell, my last computer was a Dell and it went 6 years without ever crashing.

To Fela: for all this money you might as well go on a binge and shell out seven grand for a tripped out ALX with dual 8800GT's a 1KW power supply, 4GB of RAM, and the works. Then again, maybe you don't have seven grand and you're trying to be economical.

Usually when people get this type of money for a computer, they spend like half of it on a monitor... ~.~ so how about an Apple 30 inch display tongue.gif

30" monitors are totally useless for playing games. Once you face is 10 inches from the screen, your viewing angle is sufficient that anything over about 24" on a monitor is getting too big to see all at once.

Unless you're planning on using the monitor for a console too (where you sit back), or want to make a media computer for movies and such, giant monitors are a bit of a waste.

You can't really.. none of the parts you would need are sold retail... and a lot of stuff is embedded onto the PCB, so you can't add it on yourself... the most you can probably do is make your own case and transfer parts from one laptop into the case.. or make a laptop using like a small form factor and some weird case you make yourself..

Oh yes you can, but I won't merely by snapping things together. I'll make the case myself and wind up soldering microprocessors to the motherboard. Which will also probably be the smallest I can find. I plan on modding the case out of a nice binder. Cool factor++.

Ditto.  When I go to college I'll probably end up getting myself an Alienware laptop.

I heard the screens are unreliable.

Try moving the monitor back...? ~.~ Apple's 30 inch montior has stunning picture quality.. and the resolution is high. And once the monitor is move back, it's awesome for gaming... my 21 inch monitor is out of arms length from me, yet it works great tongue.gif

@Syphon..

But you won't have a motherboard to solder it to... and I'm pretty sure you don't have to solder a CPU, just memory and other stuff is built onboard, with other expansion slots in other places... you can replce CPUs by just placing it in the ZIF socket..

Well, good news guys! Dell's 30" was selling for $1200 recently (back up a bit right now). Also, they're releasing the 3007wfp-hc which is an upgrade to their current 30". My mother also agreed today to pay me $750 for my graduation present, so a 30" monitor is starting to look like a definite reality for my budget. The monitor will be my monitor and my t.v. at college, so yeah, 30" will do wonders.
