I thought if I did it wrong it would crash StarCraft?
Still looking interesting this project of yours, though the Mini-map does show that you've a huge amount of units, spread out throughout the map, you sure you cannot remove pointless parts and replace with Terrain parts to, simulate what would have been there? That would help the lag, and enable greater unit counts later, if thats what you wish. Maximise your usage of units and the map itself! If the enemy cannot reach a location which has units placed in it pointlessly, then why have it? If just for show, it is possible without such things.
Okay, I cleared over 100 units off the map. Old unit count = 1467. New unit count = 1358. Meaning ccmu will not be a big issue now. Meaning another great step to completing this map!
*Edit* How do you like the frigg'n banner?
Meh I played your first chronicles, frankly it's not that different from other lotr games. You need some originallity. Also why is lurtz in the game? It's just something that the movie made up.
Feiteng that was the Beta you played. I released that to see if the map was accepted by the public, and it was. It's not uber-popular yet but I've seen several games, which is a good sign. Anyway, I'm working hard on Dagorlad.
Edit: Dagorlad - Battle Plain Beta should be 100% complete by tonight for map night. Can't wait, this is going to rock! I have to decide what music to put in here? I want final copy to be 750 kb - a little more than 1 mb. I already have 1 thing picked out (LotR - White Tree) and I think I might put a little Zelda theme in there.
Well come on you have to have some originality in your map, even if it's a beta version, I think I'll make a lord of the ring game to show you what I mean.
Ummm yeah... Feiteng, my map is original fool. It's as original as a LotR map can be. Anyways, Dagorlad Beta is complete! Get ready for map night!
HA! I'm almost done my lord of the ring map and I'll add the word original into your vocabulary.
COUGH kind of sounds like an attack on him or his map COUGH lol
Feiteng I saw your map and it didn't even function as a LotR map. You have mountains, big woop.
Yo felagund where can I dl this map from? Is it in the DLDB? And also, if possible, can you pm me PotN?
Why do you want PotN? You can find it on b.net. It's pretty popular still. Oh, I think you mean FotN.
Not functioning as a lotr map? It's not 100% done yet, so of course it doesn't seem like it at first. It has the outline but a lot of things are changed, hopefully for the better. Just because it doesn't fit your stereotype of a lotr map, raised terrain as mountains, hero harrass, with arbs, early game attacks on your main respawn with heros. It doesn't have to function like that to be a lord of the ring map. No where in middle earth were there "Mass Transports", and heros can't destroy an army by it's self. I think your just ignorant that you never saw the beuty of the map. Trust me when it's done, it will function like a lotr game.
I think it would be more interesting to create a new form of LotR built maps, using it as a starting block but working from it to make something new and different.
I agree with your idea, you don't actually need heroes to make a map, its just the common idea for that style and so thats what people expect and if it isn't there, well they look past anything else. Which is a shame, i agree with the recall, i think its a useful extra, but you don't always need it, maybe something to replace it would be better!
First off you might have raised terrain (big whoop) but it's not even accurate. Secondly, you designed the bases horribly. For example: dwarves' upgrades are outside Erebor, undefended. Hell, all of your mountains looked the same. You say your map is original, so why not add some originality? And heroes in the books could kill just as many troops. Hurin killed 70 trolls once. I doubt a hero could do that in a LotR map. So, that is to say, that sometimes the heroes might be weaker in the game than in the book. Personally, you have yet to convince me that you know what you are talking about.
What part of not done don't you understand. Jeez. Of cource I'll beta test it and remove any flaws, triggering comes first, balancing comes second. I wouldn't talk about accuracy if I were you, I mean you even have lurtz in your map and that's some guy made up by the movie. Ok most heros can be killed with a dagger, you think a 87 year old man can take on a army, if you do your gravely mistaken. I'm not saying they won't be in the game, the heros would be just a little bit stronger than regular units, and you would benifit to include them in your army when you attack. With the right micro management you can go make them fight in several battles. And for the mountains, lets see you make 100 mountains all different, I only make a moutain different (sprites, walkpath, etc.) if it has some significance, like mount gundabad. I'm sure you need to smothen out a few flaws in your map *coughcrashcough*.
Ok, here I go.
1. First things first, this is Felagunds map and thread so stop attacking him. He can have lurtz in it if he wants. You don't like it? Kill him at the beginning so you don't have to look at him. No big deal. You could also ask him why lurtz is there, maybe it was for the test and he forgot to remove him. Be nice. SEN isnt for attacking ppl's maps as ppl were doing to Doom 1 using comments in the DLDB. So, again, be nice.
2. Heroes should be stronger because you never saw them get raped by nazguls and a load of men in the books did you? (with the exception of Faramir and Theoden, even though his horse did it

) I think a new look for LotR could be where heroes do about the same damage as regular units of their types (hero zlot does regular zlot damage) with the exception that they have a hell of a lot more health and armor. (So no Ops)
3. Lastly, Nice map Felagund

I was trying to give constructive critisisim, but felagund can't seem to understand.... Also for the heros, in the book they don't really go into battle against a whole army and win. Heck even nazguls can be killed with one stab of a dagger, you don't see hitler dying in wwII and that doesn't make him uber strong.
QUOTE

uh no they can't. Well maybe the regular nazguls tho they were uber good and were never struck. the witch-king can only be killed by a women or the dead, its said that no living man can kill him as he stated at the battle of fornost.
you're map crashes evereytime i play it
Actually it never says he kills seventy trolls, because i doubt he could even handle one alone, it took the whole Fellowship to kill that troll and if not for the Mirthril Frodo would have been killed, while that Troll smashed Aragorn out of the way, so sorry they are not that strong in the book.
Gandalf's power allows him to break the stone, not kill the Balrog, and such, though later he does, but he is exception since he is Maia.
The Nazgul are very powerful, and such, but they are good against single units left alone, not against armies, because most LotR maps, you use Heroes to take damage and units to kill defences in mass, its a foolish idea!
THat's why the heros shouldn't be as powerful. I think lower hp, but still high attack. THat way people couldn't abuse them since they could die pretty fast when up against alot.
Yeah, i agree with that, its true to say that Heroes are normally better fighters, but it doesn't mean they can take a hundred shots from men and still be extremely strong! Shame you can make it so they get reduced attack as they lose hit points!
Less attack with less health, I dunno if that's the best idea, I mean we're thinking of them being weak already, they shouldn't be that much weaker. Whatever, can't really do it anyway.
