My state capital (capitol? too lazy to look it up) of Harrisburg as a symphonic orchestra, amazingly entitled the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. They had a great show called "Bravo Broadway" where they had a ton of Broadway hits, and they had a male and female singer for that show. Orchestras > Bands, in my opinion. I think bands are more limited in what they can do. For example, orchestras have classical and pops music to choose from, but quite frankly, all classical stuff for the concert band sucks. Why? It was made for the orchestra. Orchestras can also get this freaky but very cool rock thing going. Jazz bands can do jazz, concert bands can do... marches *vomits* and other very, very unfun pieces... I guess overall the term "band" encompasses more than what an orchestra is capable of, but taken by themselves bands are way more specific than orchestras.

Symphonic Orchestra > all your crap
and they don't have very many saxes in those (but plenty of beautiful clarinets )

Who's crack are you smoking? Have you ever hear one? LIVE? How about a Fiddle? You ever heard one of THOSE LIVE?
Please. Before you dog on an instrument, actually HEAR ONE in real LIFE and not just on a CD or anything like that.

I play Trumpet (not very good, but good enough for one year in school band) and piano (more effective, and it helps keep my fingers accurate and fast enough to type as fast as nearly anyone these days)

I kept telling them that orchestra music is very limited and that they can ONLY play classical, tranquil music which is rather boring. They can't play lively, energetic music.
Partita. 3. E major. Preludio. (My favourite violin solo of all time) Listen to part of it here.
If you don't think that's lively, you have no idea what you're talking about.

That's because the sax was made c. the 1920s, after the great composers died.
Unless Mozart is hiding in the caves and we've ALL BEEN LED ON
Saxes came into existence c. 1860, but were viewed as crap. They didn't get popular until c. 1920 when jazz became big. Saxes are too loud for classical music :/.
