For me on an averge would take like 2 weeks to 1 year depending on the map and how it is done. The movie I'm doing right now, it took 2 years of planning and some hardcore thinking cuase I'm stupid! Now in like 7 months the movie will be out! For my lucky friends they get to see some of the finish projects! During the release of the SE trailer, I shall be also hosting the Prologe and the First part so I'm able to get reviews on some of the finish stuff from random people.

EDIT: If you would like to help and join and watch the movie. Come to gateway: USWEST. and go to channel: op brutetal On the last 5 days of December. At: around 2:00pm-5:00pm pacific time (GMT -8:00)

No not sad, it's cool. We need more mapmakers on starcraft.

We actually have LOTS of map makers on battle.net now. More than the past.

In the past, it was so much easier to spread maps. Only few people made maps and those who didnt would spend their time playing and spreading maps which they think are fun.

Nowadays, there are many map makers and they like to compete. They don't spread other people's maps but instead only try to spread maps they made themselves. Even if they made a totally uber map, you will instead of playing it try and make a better map. And the cycle continues....

There's so much jealousy everywhere, even on SEN.

Generals has taken 1.5 years of consistant work so far, and will probably take another half year to complete. I've been incredibley lucky that its complexity has not corrupted the map so far; it's a very delicate balance at this point, and I suppose that's why it's taken so long to come this far. I've been making maps since I was a wee laddy, but I think this will be my final map. Check it out.

You think so Millennium? Hm... Oh well.
I think we have a lot more novice mapmakers these days than we used to though. Back when I started mapmaking... pretty much everyone was "elite" to those times standards.

Jealousy on SEN is different though, because we haven't had many feuds as of yet, i think thanks to the MOD's keeping control and being very protective and powering.

The map makers of the last two years out-place the latest ones, because they completed much more projects, similar to the MOD world. It was all done about two/three years ago...

I can make pretty dumb maps with triggers in a couple of hours.
But the ones I take time on, take.... forever. I have only finished 1 serious map, the rest are all titled:
BURROW AN EGG
AIDS
GAYEST MAP EVA
STUPIDEST MAP EVER!11

Thats rather...a pointless list? I've completed a bounds, a couple of RPG's and a few LotR as well as a couple of offset maps. But i don't put my name on my maps.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-11 at 10:22:39
Ive never completed a map...

Anyway if you are jealous (don't knwo if i spelt it right) you still would spread uber maps because they are... well... Uber.

Example: I spread Ubolts HoTh even though i was making maps... I don't care if i make a crapy map... I JUST WANT TO GET ONE DONE!!!

lmao

Nonsense, i don't mind if others don't play my maps, i made them, for myself.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Red2Blue on 2004-12-12 at 01:12:54
it is very true what coko says... most map makers these days don't want to create their maps for other people... but rather, they create maps for themselves, to satsisfy their yearning to create somthing special...

Its the thought that counts right?

Of course, there are the other kinds of map makers, those who want to create maps to become a legend of sc... thats a different story...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HeRtZ on 2004-12-12 at 01:45:09
well im new but it depends on what map it is. usually 6-8 days

No it's just taking forever

Reports that he is working on a Mod version of it seems rather incorrect in my view, and taking ages on it simple provides a guess that he hasn't worked on it for some time. Therefore for the time period onwards just accept it isn't going to happen.

Problem is, most of the maps finished these days are Defenses and Bounds.

I think SEN is bringing back RPG's, original types, and such.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2004-12-12 at 22:40:48
I never made any Bounds (except for one that's with friend) and only a couple defense maps. I made one RPG which was fairly ok. Other than those, i focus more on originality in most (if not all) of my games rather than complexity.

Usually it takes me a month to make my map and then fix the bugs. The map itself usually half the month and the other half is for debugging. I haven't made many big maps though. Mostly smaller shorter maps.

I see. My maps have been taking enormous amounts of time lately...

How much of this time is doing a certain trigger sequence then realising it is wrong and correcting it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SaKuRa_RPG on 2004-12-15 at 01:48:28
For me it is usually a day to a week developing a concept and storyline - a good week or two creating a beautiful landscape, and about a week creating an intro to the rpg, then I usually stop there and entertain myself by watching the intro over and over because I find I have no time whatsoever.
