I have a save game going and I save every time I can so I don't have to reset. I'm currently trying to get higher upgrades so I can kill hydra and zealots. *Sigh* They are SO expensive. Here's what I found in my "playtesting".

- The beginning went ALOT faster! I like that you increased the money drop rate and I think it's just perfect now
- Harper is beautiful! I really love the signs on the piers
- The spell-system is flaw-proof, I loved the way that you pulled it off
- Thank you for changing the miner's text to make sure stupid people like me would step away to get the egg
- I noticed that the music-looping seemed to be fixed. Now that I've heard it loop well, I think that the music gets too annoying after awile. Maybe put two songs in there?
- Hydras and Zealots seem to be a little hard. They kick my ass
- I haven't gotten to the end but I'm confident it works. Can't wait to see the it
- I haven't found any grammer mistakes yet. Kudos to you biggrin.gif

EDIT- It crashed. *SIGH* Luckly I had saved about 10 minutes before it did, just lost some SEED and some mapping time. Oh, well. I'm going to beat this!

Mpstark gives it a - 9.5/10

Yay, score raised to 9.5!

Podfedjay, that's weird. I've placed lights on the entire map and never had that problem. Lights and money have nothing to do with one another, so I don't know what's wrong. Maybe you're just REALLY unlucky?

The monster "AI" is really quite simple:
Melee units are 90% passive (unless attacked).
Ranged units are 70% aggressive.

If you have problems in the hydra/zealot cave, try not to hit the zealots. Hydras aren't too bad because they rarely spawn so there aren't very many.

Music... that piece wasn't my first choice, actually. The problem is that the other one I wanted to use was 2x bigger pinch.gif. The map would be something like 8 mb?

To me, map making is an ART. I try my best to make everything as beautiful as possible. Those are supposed to be streetlights, btw tongue.gif.

Crashing... It happens once in a while when you use (A)ttack to move too much. Try to avoid clicking on the fuzzy parts between dark and lighted areas.

Camping - It's a good thing.

Also, it's what I'm doing right now! smile.gif

the map seemed to gotten very boring very fast ..I dont' know why.

Maybe because I hate maps that are just mass killing (even though yours had a twist). mellow.gif

I have a question... Is the ending for each player the same, or does each of the four players have his own set ending and objectives? Like how one player is traveling to a town, another is traveling to the town that player is coming from? I think I confused myself.

Ok I read.. hardly anything... but I looked at the screen shots and that city is beautiful, very well done. I notice you used the "dock" extended terrain smile.gif

Cheeze477, like I said, not everyone will enjoy it... but hopefully it wasn't a complete waste of your time. It was interesting for a while, right? tongue.gif

Xeno(U), my plan is to break the players into 2 teams that join for a final quest. P1/P2 would go the way that you can do right now. P3/P4 would have a unique quest of their own (they'd probably get into the mines through the old door in Mina rather than the guarded entrance). After that, both teams join together to beat the end.

Dabbu, I got the dock idea from your map... like I said, your map gave me some great ideas tongue.gif

This map isn't really about the action. It's all about the story and the concept. I stuck to a theme of darkness and exploration and made a whole world to match. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but think of it like a piece of art -- you like it or you don't, but it can still be a great work. I'm proud of the work that I put into it, and hopefully you'll agree that it is well made

...even if you don't like it tongue.gif

When your "done" with this map, do you have any other plans for another?

I have ideas for another map, but I don't plan on making it. If it takes as long as LoH did, there's no way I'll have the time. The year before going college is fraught with peril! Yea, I have to do a bunch of application stuff and whatnot, so I don't have time for serious projects. Also, my mapping skills are woefully inadequate for certain things that I'd like to have done. If you look at LoH in an editor, you'll see that the whole thing is rather basic.

I don't have the time nor the skill to put out another project, that's what I'm trying to say.

I have finished it! Took me exactly 3 hours, 31 minutes and 43 seconds, and boy, was it fun! It did get alittle boring looking for Vent, but once I got there, it proceeded well. I'm happy to annouce that the ending worked well and that I had no problems what so ever with anything. Here is my comments.

1. GREAT MAP
2. The end worked well
3. The story seems a little underdone at beginning
4. There were no new "Claws" or new "Creeps" when I got to the hydras and zealots
5. The middle seemed to have lots more room, do you have anything planned?

Well there you go. I think I might have been the first to beat it other then you?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-07-18 at 18:05:45
Claws and creep stop spawning after 1 hour (to cut down on lag), so yea, it wasn't an error.

In the beginning you are an explorer. There are many others just like you. You are not "humanity's last hope;" you're just an average guy who agrees to make a delivery. I wanted the hero to be like that. I wanted to make you just a normal person who never expected that he'd become the world's savior.

The middle is empty because I'm afraid of getting that "too many nooks and crannies" error. I will be using it... as soon as I can think of something to do with it.

I think you are the first beside me to see the ending. Xeno got to the end on the first release, but the ending didn't work, hehe.

Good work! Your patience is admirable tongue.gif. Hopefully it was worth all 3 hours, 31 minutes and 43 seconds! Did you find any of the minibosses?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-07-18 at 18:19:34
to answer your other question (way back there)..

yes it was very intersting. the terrain was very very very very good (the cities anyway..didn't check the rest of the map) the problem was it was very similar to the other maps out there where you simply kill random units and gain experience and level up, etc. (money = weapon/armor, no level up). I did like the no light part..but when I got to the cave part where it required me to use a light every 4 seconds.. that got annoying. I'm guessing a lot of people liked it, so just add some new features. (minigames, hidden objectives, etc)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dabbu on 2004-07-18 at 19:51:33
To avoid that nashty placement error just create the units in a remote area where there is space for sure, then move them where you want them to spawn, if that area is too stuffed they just won't be moved. Then just keep retrying to move them.

Oh and where can I hook up with the map? I wanna play it too.

I did find one mini-boss. It said something like, "Something big is lurking" and then I found the tunneler dude (Reaver). I stimpacked and then beat his ass in and found 400 SEED. Are there more like him?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-07-18 at 20:22:34
Yep, 2 more to be exact. They'll be part of side quests later, but right now they're only good for some fast cash tongue.gif.

I have yet to finish the whole map, and Mpstark showed it to me and I'm very impressed. The storyline is good, the music is relaxing and it's challenging; one of the few things I ever find in a map. If I was to rate it with the 5 star system, I would give it all five stars. The only improvement I see is a need for more quests.

I read earlier that you need a host for the map so people can download it. I have a webspace account at EVula.org, if you send the map to StardogProd@Netscape.net, I'll gladly upload it and get back to you.

It's okay... my friend was able to upload it a few days ago before he left on vacation (just 1 day after I made the post). I actually have a link to the file, but I've only been giving it out by request. Thanks anyway.

Also, glad you like it! More quests will come, but it might take a while. I'm thinking of writing an entirely new storyline for players 3/4, but right now I'm still working it out.

I was also wondering how you created the custom tileset (i mean howd you get doodads from another map into the jungle tileset)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2004-07-20 at 16:32:18
If you use Starforge you can use any tileset doodads in any tileset.

For security reasons, I suggest you take your emails out of the thread. I don't need your email addresses anymore (email proved to be problematic), so just simply ask (by PM or in a post) if you would like a copy.

I used SCMdraft to make some of the terrain. I'd use starforge since it has a custom brush, but my computer can't run it.

I really think that you might want to convert the inventory and insides of buildings to square terrain, that's what I would do, but meh, do what you like. Or maybe keep the buildings as they are and just change the inventory, I think that would be best.

I don't really think they have to go edit their post to take the e-mail out, if you looked most of them already have it located it their profiles.

I played the map for a while and I was quite impressed smile.gif. I'm glad to see you used the transport system for the main menu. Not many people do that but it makes a world of a difference.
I also found the map fun to play, I'm still only an hour into the game and although things are going slow it's still fun. I kind of don't like how enemies stop spawning after a while. Do you make that happen by elapsed time or by counting how many guys have been spawned per cave and then stop making more when it reaches a certain number? I hope it's the second so I won't have to worry about washroom breaks.
I'm worried about getting enough seed to actually upgrade enough for later in the game, I havn't been able to find any special bosses or one time buffs so far, but I've only been in the first 3 caves. I really like the terrain job, you did it very well. The music is cool too, but too bad it's just one track.
Also if you save and load the MuteUnitSpeach trigger no longer takes effect.
