What exactly is consuming the RAM? I have no idea about web-programming, actually, but wouldn't it reduce the amount of ram used if you disabled images in signatures & co? Temporarily, of course. If it helps, it certainly is better than it is when the page is down all the time, and from my experience, pics tend to use up the most RAM...

Hmm, why not make the forums inaccessible for non-users for a short period of time? That and disabling sig images would probably help. Right?

Umm, why not go to another host that doesnt cost so damn much? I like the v4 setup more than v5 so I dont even want to think about going there before it is ready.

It may not be perfect, but a buggy V5 is better then a buggy v4 in any capacity. It also *might* solve the problem of RAM, and it will keep moral way up because everyone was waiting for V5.

Buggy v4? The only v4 that isn't better than the current v5 is a nonexistant v4.

Guys, the RAM is being used by the actual work being done by the server. All the calculations PHP does, connecting to MySQL, calculating your posts per day, adding in the modifications for every page load, etc...

Yea right. Because IP needs to scam people because he doesnt have a life and a job where he works his ass off. Infact IP loves to scam us to make himself feel better because hes some 12 year old. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, you havent been here long have you?

Blizzforums use vBulletin forum software.

ADDITION:
I still think that most of the memory usage is used by mySQL to cache things and access tables faster... I don't think PHP uses much memory (maybe 100 bytes per online user?).

ADDITION:
EDIT doesn't work:
CODE

mySQL query error: SELECT post, post_date FROM ibf_posts WHERE pid =

mySQL error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
mySQL error code:

MySQL also contributes to the problem, yeah. RAM stands for random access memory. Therefore, everything server-side is using the servers RAM (memory).

Still, whats eating RAM is MySQL

IP, any plans on getting wiki.staredit.net back up?

If we switch to v5, could I at least get all the random warns and mineral deductions taken off? tongue.gif

OFF TOPIC: In total how big is SEN?

Would simply removing some of the little used functions of the website help this?

Whats eating up the ram? Is it the database? The amount of users? Media ie images?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-10-22 at 12:15:07
Trust me, v5 will not be bugfixed at a v4 speed. This is because v5 doesn't not confuse me like the code for v4. tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-10-22 at 12:19:29
For v5, did you use IPB's code as a basis or make your own forum system?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-10-22 at 12:24:35
Use IPB? NO. NEVER. NOT EVER. NO. NAY. The thought disgusts me.

Personally I think we should keep SEN v4 as it is right now, and wait until v5 is ready, I'd rather have a less buggy SEN v4 rather than a buggy v5!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2006-10-22 at 13:14:48
Except v4 isn't an option since it costs so much.

I guess we have a solution then!
