If you are a bumb and live to be 100 years old. You arent getting much money from the government. I think that you at least have to have something to show out of this. You dont want to be struggling with money for the rest of your lives. I would just save at the beggining then you have no troubles. If you do have troubled then you have that money to lean on!

QUOTE(Andy @ Nov 9 2006, 12:58 PM)
I was thinking the other day, that I am already done a 4th of my life if I somehow live to be 80. I know I won't live to be that old because I drink, smoke, and do drugs sometimes. I like my lifestyle, so it's out of the question to change it. I was thinking that because I'll probably be working until I die (pretty much) that there is really not point in saving for retirement. It's kind of what my parents did, and they are proving my thoughts correct. Just wanted to have some input.

I know what you mean, because I'm turning 20 next month. But I don't think of myself as really having lived 20 years. Because the first few years of my life don't really count, because I just flat out don't really remember them much.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-10 at 01:11:06
Ya, the first 10 years of my life I barely remember, The only things I remember are old friends, cousins, prett much all family, and really good times I had. Really nothing else.

Green Meklar minerals wont matter to me if I'm in heavan

Yes, I know, it's the old 'I'll bet you you're not going to die' thing all over again. Besides, even if I did win, minerals are rather trivial compared to the world not ending. So don't worry, I know what I'm saying and sometimes I just insert a bit of humor and sarcasm.

I'll be damned if when the rapture happens you will think that all those people were right and I have lived a damned life.

Yep, you will be. Literally. And if you're right, then I will be. tongue.gif

Maybe instead of doing drugs and drinking give your money to people in poor countries like sudan and bangladesh.

Meh, from what I can tell 95% of what you send over there is seized by some corrupt dictator before it ever gets to the people who need it. I'd suggest rather that he save it up for when he needs it.

He would probably just save it for more drugs.

I think that everyone will save or try to save for retirement at least once in their lives. I dont see any reaon someone would want to work until they die, it just doesnt make any sence.

If I have a job I love I will wan't to work till I die, but it depends on the job I get. I have always been inbetween going for history or law, and if I grew old I'm shure I would like history more and work till I die. After all being a professer at a college or a teacher you get summer vacation anyways.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-10 at 14:48:47
I doubt you could make a living off being just a teacher, if you wanted a good life you would been to work during the summer while your off of you teacher schedule.

Thats why I debate myself between law.

Teachers do make good money and they get retirement benefits. If they teach overtime, they get 50$ bonus per hour.

Well I didnt know that but I would rather get a better job year round and more money per year without overtime.

I rather get a job with decent pay that would support me with rent, food, and gas money and other things, and gives me health benefits like medicad and other things with retirement pays.
That is if you want a job that helps you later on and now.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-11 at 17:13:46
well ya, but I plan to open my own business and crap, I would love to build it from my own house, and run it from the office down the hall from my bedroom. Cheaper on gass, walking 10 feet
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Zero.oO on 2006-11-11 at 17:34:50
Heh the problem with that is if your business fails what are you going to do? The court system is very needy with lawyers and such and there is always tons and tons of teaching jobs and you can get a better paying one if you go to alaska and teach though I would not want to do that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-11 at 17:58:14
Before I start my job I am going to try to make myself some money to start off, this way I work full time at a good paying job, save some up, start a small business. Work up maybe keep the other job, and work my own hours at another, almost as though it were two full time jobs then drop the other job as I put everything I have into my other job. This is many years into it. I am thinking about making computer games or maybe computer animation or something of that sort.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Zero.oO on 2006-11-11 at 18:12:17
That doesnt quite answer the question how I wanted. It costs alot of money to start a business and if it closes your kinda screwed even with another job to support you, you might still go into debt. Its a risky business. Imagine saving up all those years and all that hard work and no costumers? That would be like throwing away part of your life and having to start it anew.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-11 at 18:19:55
yup, thats the risk you gotta take, everyone that has gotten to where they are now, unless they were born into wealth had to take risks and maybe went at it again to get rich.

Life is short? Heck Its taken me forever just to get to 14 and I'm pretty glad I'm at this age because I dont want to be working my butt off nor do I want to be too old. Here I can enjoy youth.

Even though it took you forever, think of all the accomplishments you did. I'm sure you havent done anything major.

Thinking of what you just said. To maker of this topic. Life is too short, Like give me an example of what you are going to do that is longer. When you come up with something longer than life, let me know.

After fourteen it seems to go faster though. Most of this year already has blown by.

Ya, I do agree with you there, it is the most fun part of your life, you start high school. It is when you start getting to like girls, do more with them. Or around that age, maybe a little before maybe after.

I remember when scientists fed one of the chemicals in wine to lab mice, and they lived around 5 times longer than the mice that they didn't give it to. Why not use it for us? Because we would have to drink 150 bottles of wine a day to get the same impact..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodan on 2006-11-27 at 08:54:56
We'd die of alcohol poisoning before any of the other chemicals that might make us live longer could take any effect. ;p

Actually, they say that drinking one glass of red wine a day can have a very beneficial effect on your longevity. It's only red wine that works, though, white wine doesn't contain the right chemicals. And more than a glass a day gives little additional benefit (the alcohol starts to counteract the health effects).

as for the topic title "life is short" it really all depends how long you live, if you die at birth -- sucks to be you, if you live to 100, life isn't short at all.
