I would enter but I can't seem to think of a game having to do with Dragons.  pinch.gif

How about Dragon Madness (a madness game with a bunch of units named after various dragons) or Whack-a-Dragon (whack teh dargonz!)?

Gonna do a massing type map.. But without huge masses of units.

ยป No map dimensions larger than 128x128.

I guess there will be no RPG maps.

Not if you accept the fact that you believe you're unable to make an RPG in a map that's 128x128.

Oh crap... I didn't see that. I already started my terrain on a 256x256. Can there be an exception for this month? Pretty pleaaaase?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-11-16 at 15:46:19
Noez. Just because I won't need more then 128x128 tongue.gif. Can't SCMDraft copy/paste parts of map and all?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-16 at 16:16:31
Yeah, and you can also turn terrain into a brush with StarForge. One small issue... I'm on a Mac. Ugh this is about the time that I really wish SCMDraft 2 Mac was a reality.

I would think about entering this contest, but I would have to break multiple limitations to make a map with dragons that would satisfy me enough to turn it in, and even then I would have a lot of problems with the time limit.

I've finally came up with a map idea.

Hungry,Hungry Dragons.

Well, I got my idea all planned out, and I'm hoping to finish in a week. I think it's a pretty good idea that's good enough to get me some minerals biggrin.gif

I suppose I can do something new if its impossible to make an exception. My RPG would take forever to finish anyway with all the plans I have for it - but I will attempt to finish it only if I am allowed to submit it! biggrin.gif

Devlin, I feel spited. Even with a new map, I'm still looking forward for a civilian dragon smile.gif

How about a larva as a dragon? biggrin.gif

The kind that EATS everything it wanders near?

I think I'll give it a shot. With a real map this time. tongue.gif

I've given up my plea for a 256x256 exception. I already started a new one that will probably be better and easier to make anyway (less thinking involved; gotta love that). Good times.

Where do programs such as X-Tra Editor and StarForge fit in with the "no modded maps" rule?

While I stick to mainly X-Tra for my maps, I prefer grabbing Starforge for terrain editing.

Anyways, my submission will follow the lines of Dragons + AoS to end up as something similar to the PS3's new game, Lair. And as such, I really need to use StarForge to whip up faux dragons for when two knights battle a-dragonback when someone grapples the other.

My biggest issue at this point is getting sounds... curse my reformatting at just the wrong time. pinch.gif

X-Tra Edit and StarForge do not created Modded maps. I think you're confused by the term "Modded." Any Mod-makers care to explain?

You're allowed to use SCM Draft, X-Tra, and StarForge. biggrin.gif

Or... Pretty well any other map editor...

Yeah, been a while since I picked up SC, so I was a bit confused on what consitutes a "modded" map.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-17 at 21:10:14
I have no experience making or using Mods, but from the way I see it, they basically completely modify (hence the name "Mod") the tech trees, units, attacks, and almost everything else in StarCraft. When you see "Modded Maps" in the rules, it just refers to Maps that have a Mods tacked on to them.

Can someone please clear up what the actual bounds for maps are limited to? I mean, I understand that 128x128 is the limit, but does that mean someone can do a 96x192 or 192x96?

I'll appreciate this being clarified a.s.a.p.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-18 at 00:49:59
Well I had no idea about the rule myself, so I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I assume that rules out anything over 128 for either one of the dimensions.

That's how I interpreted it as well, but you already know that Demonic smile.gif
