I think the nastiest ants are African Driver ants, I hear they kill cows, so a human must not be much to them.

OMG!!! Look at this about driver ants. It would scare the bejeezus out of me to see that comming. (On the lower part of the page.)

I like watching things about ants on the Discovery channel too. I'm pretty sure ants can live without a queen such as in ant farms, until they all die out though. I always wanted to get a queen ant and have a reproducing colony of ants.

On this discovery channel or pbs show it also showed ants in a rain forest and it showed ants attacking a slug, and after the slug died, all the ants that were caught in the slime were cleaned and helped out by other ants. It was cool and interesting how they helped eachother out.

Your account doesn't show any hint you were an ant before. tongue.gif

SimAnt is abandonware, but it is so old it probably wouldn't run without an emulator.

reguler worker ants have basic instincts that they follow.

Ants can't have instincts.

And they said if you have a glass jar, you can actually capture maybe 20 worker ants and they will live by themselfs in that jar

With a queen, dirt, and an endless supply of sugar. You cannot have ants living without a queen.
1. No offspring
2. No control
3. No control = can't eat
The thing you watched was probably on the internet or something.
QUOTE
this aggressive type of ant colony

All ants are aggressive, that is why they have a special class built for fighting.

Ants can live without a queen until they die off. The queen does not control the colony, the queen is a sex toy for making new ants.

Supposing DK is right, that means that I was right.
Yay.

Of course he's right. Haven't any of you hear of ant farms? Why not try making one for yourself, put some food in a jar and get some ants in there, I'm sure they will have some sort of control and settle into the new environment, they will thrive just until they all die off.

I had an ant farm, and they all escaped. sad.gif

You gotta seal the jar, lol. And you try to get a few big ants(queens) when building an ant farm so they can reproduce. Also bring some with wings to mate with the queen.

Maybe i should have a ant farm... It sounds like fun. Watching those confused little insects starting all over depending on you giving them supplies. Almost like watching the evolution of humanity in ultrarapid fastforward tongue.gif

Yeah, I've always wanted to buy an ant farm too. They were selling these weird ones in a magazine where you didn't need to feed them. The farm contained this blue jelly that was easy to burrow into for the ants, and was also a food source.

It looked pretty cool, but it's one of those things that you know you'd never buy unless you really wanted to.

I wonder what the jelly tastes like. Ants like sugar, so I'm guessing it would go good with fruit.
Anyway I saw those blue jelly farm things too, they seem kinda weird.
The funnest thing to do with ants involves a magnifying glass.

Some days ago I saw some ants sucking paint from some art I made before I began at school... blink.gif

Paint to ants is weed to people, ya know. Even ants don't follow all their orders. tongue.gif

And I've always wanted either an ant farm or a seamonkey farm, lol. Seamonkeys rule. baaa.gif

This might of bee asked and answered earlier but

Where do ants friggen go during the winter.... I mean they are put under (like this year) we just had like 2ft of snow, then they appear again in Spring. How do they survive under ground and whatnot.. wouldnt they freeze their little asses off. Or do they chill inside of our houses...?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by pekkel_the_duck on 2005-04-10 at 20:04:27
Probably either in the ground, has eggs that hatch in spring, or camp out in houses of people. In winter I see lots of ants in the house, sometimes wet and half-dead. T.T
