They have some godly terrain over there... now I just need to learn what download is in korean and checkout some of their melee maps... hopefully that translator works well enough for that biggrin.gif . Also Koreans do make UMS maps... I've got a handful of really good ones I got off the Korean server(mostly rpg's) if anyone wants to see a good korean UMS. (At least I assume its Korean...dunno maybe chinese? tongue.gif)

EDIT: Is it just me or are there NO map download links on that site cry.gif ? All I can find is pictures and info... but no dl links ermm.gif .

Koreans made Mini SC which owns and the first float a drone defense too. Both are great UMS maps.

Also I was curious, what the hell does a Korean keyboard look like? If you have 1000's of different symbols, one for each word, then how do you type? The only things that I could think of were that you draw each and the computer recognizes it, or that you have a bunch of different "shift" keys so that each real key can be one of many characters.

Why the  censored.gif  do we care about the korean map making team elite.  We are elite UMS in the US.  In Korea they can be elite Melee.  We don't need to mix.  Unless they plan to make UMS there is no real challenge and we should remain unaffiliated with them.

First SEN is an International Site with contributions of people from many different countries - just because they speak English does not make them all Americans.

Second knowledge has no boundries, what ever you can learn from some else is always a worthy effort, it is called being resourceful and is part of why us humans have survived. Another word for it is intelligence.

Lastly there are elite Korean UMS sites too. Yoshi mentioned one.

It is not a question of affiliation or challenge or competition. It is a question of sharing their wonderful work, of seing what else is out there, of improving through greater knowledge.

I also wonder if you know what effect your reply has on a Korean visiting SEN, or lets not go that far, a Canadian?

yes i know. Yoshi is from canada but he doesnt stamp that all over the whole site or commends himself because of it.

creativity in melee does however.

Not true

Why do we care if the koreans visit sen?

this is the only good reason for looking across the ocean?

so then why are we talking about the less skillful melee?

QUOTE
We should make some Melee maps that are better.

Why? It would be better that we are the top Ums rather than lower Ums and melee

Just incase none of you knew, I'm born and living in Canada. UMS gamers and map makers don't only have to come from the US. You only see Korean melee tournaments, because thats one of the biggest things over there.

So, if you see Canadians living in houses made of lumber and them being lumberjacks, is that what you assume of us?

If you look at that map of players locations you'll notice there are tons of SEN members(well alot, not tons) from Europe and other NA countries, its not all US. I think we even have two people that marked themselves as being from Asia.

So anyone wanna point me to a download link for maps on that site or do they just show them off and give you no chance to dl the map... probably there is a link somewhere I just can't find it because I dunno Korean tongue.gif .

Carls, you are really wrong. Make a melee map is harder and requires more skills than making an UMS map. Make the terrain feel real, and give to all the players the same posibilities without using simetry wich doesnt look natural is quite hard. Make a bunch of triggers is way simpler. If you don't believe so, make a melee map, with doodads and all that things and (without looking at the equilibry between players) I'll tell you if the terrain is worth a good melee map.

Also, I'm from Spain so all the programs that I might make will be only for spanish people -.-"

I disagree Clokr... I think UMS take more skills due to the balancing required, as in melee of course it's already balanced by Blizzard. However, let us embrace the international community. Like my good friend once said, "Welcome to America; we speak English here." J/k for those of you who don't realize it. And SI, in Call of Duty, I'm always German : )

...UMS is whatever the hell you want it to be, which gives you the freedom to do whatever and it doesn't matter what you do, which makes it easy to balance. On the other hand, to create PURE terrain that is balanced for units that you can't change is very heard, especially making it original. In UMS there are many aspects that determine whether your map is good, if you lack good terrain maybe your triggers will make up for it. But in melee maps its mostly PURE terrain that determines whether its good or not. And that is what makes Melee hard to create. Any idiot could create a UMS map that is somewhat fun with simple triggers, but not many people can create a balanced and creative melee map using the most basic editor, the one that came with SC. You say the SC editor is better than WC because it's simpler and makes you think more, well then the same goes for Melee and UMS because melee is the most basic.

I would say, all together, there are less noob melee maps than noob UMS maps. And UMS has many more different kinds of noob maps. Melee only really has one type, fastest.

I have to disagree with that... there are TONS of newb melee maps... 100's of variations of that fastest map crap and then there are the more annoying ones... big ugly chunks of terrain and 50000 minerals put on huge map sizes. Most newb maps aren't the fastest ones as there are more really crappy terrain designed newb maps out there than fastest newb maps. The worst part is how they seem so "popular" on b.net... lots of lazy newbs can't play a real game with expanding anymore.

EDIT: I tried registering on MapDori.Com but I don't know what to put for 주민등록번호(Residence registration number) and I get some error message now when I try to click OK to register but I can't read it since it won't copy into a translator...argh... I have everything filled out except MSN, celluar and the registration # so I am guessing its the # keeping me from joining but they didn't give me a # so make one up or??

The text under the # roughly translates into: The residence registration number becomes password anger and the store becomes is not a possibility also the manager knowing, (closes member duplication joining and becomes the bay use with the prosecuting attorney means for)

You guys completely missed the point. Clokr_ mentioned the bad maps that US people make, and Carl gave a few bad maps that Korean's have made. (I think.) I really didn't know that fastest ever was made by a Korean though.

The point of the article was a simple Site Review about a very, very decent site of Korean Melee Map Makers. Any map making whether it be UMS or melee, if done with passion and dedication can be taken to very skillful levels. It is much the same for anything you do in life, not just map making.

Btw anyone that needs a Korean Registration number Send me a PM if you need one and I will help you out.

주민등록번호 is like the ermm.... whatcha call it? Social security number?
I think you can only make one id per one KSSN (주민등록번호).

Faz- wait, I'll need time with this.

Size: 96 by 96

Current working version: 0.90

Estimated quit date: 4-20-05

Multi’s:
1. 6 minerals (two of these)
2. 8 minerals and 1 gas (two of these)
3. 6 minerals and 1 gas (two of these)

History

This map was named after a song title sung by radio heads (singing group from England). The map’s main fighting regions could be divided into three different sections. The first section would be a air to air battle between the two bases. The second section would be a small, basic unit battle on the small bridge. One the big bridge would be heavy units like siege tanks, reavers, dragoons, control heavy fight.

I translated as much as I could. I'll translate more later.

Edit- whooops, changed 1 to 2.
