It does. I tested it.

I mostly learn through looking at code to figure out how certain things are done and different ways to do things. You can know what every condition and action does, but by looking at triggers you can see different ways to use them for a certain effect.

I'm gonna dl it now.

I will agree to delete stolen maps on StarCraft.org, however, we don't have a system that separates author from submitter (blame Mystikal...) so I don't think it's fair for me to ban people who steal maps from the site unless they explicitly say "I made this map" in their description or something. If they don't, I can edit the map so it does say who really made the map.

I was more refering to some other community sites out there which host a couple of maps (however, they're sadly dropping out slowly). I know you would pretty much delete all obvious stolen maps (ie, submittions after the real map, etc). SC.org still contains the largest database for maps, its extremely impressive how many maps there are out there.

GJ Mind, This shall help some of the map makers out there in the community you get confused by some peoples triggers and will help them learn way of becoming a good map maker.

Stolen maps is hardly SC.Org's major problem... ya'll host LITERALLY thousands of corrupted files on your site. I recently bothered going through the entire map database on sc.org... and its really pathetic how many files were corrupted... the site lists it has more maps than it actually has... and well over 1/3rd of the maps it has are corrupted. Another 1/3rd are crappy and not worth keeping. I've offered to make a list of corrupted files to get them removed off that site but despite using the comment/suggestion(I forget exactly what it was called) thing and listing some of the corrupted maps(including the 2nd most downloaded map on the site) ya'lls site has still not tried to fix the problem at all. Work on having a database of non-corrupted maps first... then worry about map stealers...

Oh that's right, I remember your name from the feedback panel. Sorry BW Map God, I have definitely seen your list, but look, the only person with programmer access to StarCraft.org is Mystikal, so only he can batch remove all the corrupted files. Mystikal has been very busy, and so a lot of the coding fixes we've got are not getting done, let alone removing the corrupted files. However, we've noticed that the to do list grows faster than Mystikal can handle them, so we're going to add a new programmer to our system - me. I promise that once I get programmer access to the system I'll remove the corrupted files you've found, it's the least I can do in return for the time you have taken to find them.

Have you checked your feedback responses list on StarCraft.org? I'm sure I must've responded to at least one of your feedback items.

I find this program not that useful.

First, it only shows the triggers. You have no idea where the locations are located in the actual map, plus the fact that the location names are renamed to normal, and so are the switches.

But nice work, still. wink.gif

Protection removes those, and the current version of Trigger Viewer does not show them (even if its unprotected) because simply.. why would you want to view a map's triggers that are unprotected, when you can open it in Xtra?

As knowing where the locations are, I tried to make a small minimap picture that shows where each location is, but too bad I have no idea what im doing in that department. I suppose I could list the coordinates of each location, if I really wanted to.

As referring to unit names, I think it would be easier to read "Marine" instead of "Barbarian" or something, because then someone who doesn't know your map too well knows what the trigger is referring to.

I guess I will talk about these errors people are getting as well.

As far as I know.. this means out of memory. Check out this page: http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/trbl_nt_rte8007000e.htm

No idea what is causing this. Does this happen when you are first opening the program?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by AqoTrooper on 2005-05-01 at 06:04:40
It doesn't show the triggers for some maps.

For example, when I opened 'New Sunken Defence(0.4)' to randomly see how it works it all went fine, but when I opened 'SnipB_SnG_316_Locks_p.scx' all the trigger foldrs were empty and I could do no more than view the strings :\

It doesn't allow you to edit the edit the map, not even copying it, so no.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Red2Blue on 2005-05-01 at 14:59:56
This is not a good program...

The main reason is:
Maps that depend on the protection are now useless.

Some maps require protection to protect "passwords" that are in the map.
These maps have special elements that have required protection are now freely viewed by this program.

My map is now useless. My rpg has a password system that you may input to "save" your character. Now people can just use this program and get the strongest character in my map without playing the game.

Some maps, like golems, require the player to discover combinations on their own in a discovery process. Now, thats all given because you can see everything that happens.

This program doesn't infringe on people's map rights. Nor does it encourage stealing. Its very much a learning program.

The only problem is that some map makers don't want the player's to learn about their map's interworkings.

In effect, it infringes on the rights of the map makers.
Not everyone wants their map triggers viewed.

Also adding:
If you really badly wanted to learn about a trigger, you would ask someone on this site. Obviously...

Its not right for someone to just go in and "steal" someone else's ideas. The map maker could have taken weeks to create a certain system in their map. Someone using this program could have easy access to their triggers and "steal" their ideas in a matter of minutes.

I do understand that Hex editors and the like can unprotect maps. Its just this program allows easy access to them. Hexing can be hasslesome at times.

Oh well, nothing else I can say can remove this program from the people. Its already been spread...

Also, you dont have to redownload the map just because you're using this program. If anyone were ever to make an editor that would just view maps, but have no functions to save or edit them, I would support it as well.

I kinda agree with red2blue.
This makes it much harder to put passwords into your map. Protection programs are supposed to stop more then strealing.

However I also disagree with red2blue. Becuase the location names are taken out, it would be hard to locate where the secret location was. (that's not the best example, but you know what I mean).

But then, what stops you from pulling out a hex editor and just searching through the strings section?

Its easier then youd think. Starforge can reveal "Hidden Locations." Ya know, those ones that are smaller then 1x1 (im talking 0x0 pixel locations).

Its very easy to look at locations. Even though it says Location1...Location#, You can just rename the location and voliah! Easy to read, easy to understand.

QUOTE

I concerned that. If you use a hex editor, its quite tricky to "unhex" it. If you don't know the hexing style, it will take hours to decipher it so that you can open it. Reading... you should see some of the current map maker's maps. They put so much uneeded strings in it to confuse the string reader its not funny.

Er... Do you know how easy it is to copy triggers? If someone had enough determination, they would copy every single condition and action and place it in their map. With enough time, they can duplicate every trigger in the map... hence stealing the map.
