lol yea i never thought about moving the bunker to make it invisable.. that would work. And the eye sounds pretty interersting, to bad you gave up on the lord of the rings map, that woulda been nice.

Yeah, maybe Dark Archon explosions / explosions with the fire jets coming out could have an interesting effect. And if the bunker's been moved, the DA's wont have placement issues.

Actually Tux, you should know that a cloaked Protoss building can build. Just enable it, or place a pylon happy.gif.

Don't use this one because I'm using it.
But basically i was thinking of enhancing the basic things of the zerg creep. Making it appear very eerie and dark. No trees, no doodads that are not slinky and tall. You then add cloacked zerg buildings around the creep area and cloack them and make them bleed. It makes a very nice bleeding ground effect. You could enhance this with different types of terrain and doodads to make very different concepts such as a blood lake and what not.
Another good idea with this one is to do this effect on the outside of a building you would enter that has a door(Command Center, Refinery, etc.). And it looks like it has some sort of strange goo coming out, or Lava if you place it correctly. Many different ideas could be done with this, I like it.

Addition:
I don't mind if you use this one(i know i didn't create either of these). Basically make yourself a mystical looking area, however it looks is up to you. But mystical seems to look good with this effect. Now somewhere you use the recharge shield battery effect on a shield battery, and place it on water or a tall doodad. It adds a very magical effect. That's all for me for now, i'll add more later.

Maybe you should read the list first, because he had all of those.

Hmm, is anyone finding this useful?

I thought people might find this a handy reference when trying to think of some good effects to use.

When I use effects, I usually just take what's convinent and works. Scout explosions for typical explosions. However, with this list, I might change that. As long as it givess a nice effect, it doesn't have to be specific.

Anyone seen any good effects made with zealot deaths?

I would hope not wink.gif

Hmm, that's not a bad idea.

Well, Giving units to different players rapidly looks like flashing.
And the unit sprite 61 (a rotating dark templar) When vision is not shared can be used for a weird effect. It's walkable, and shifts the shape of ground below it, but not units much. It's sort of like a slower effect of the heat wave effect made by the floor hatch.

Meh, got enough cloak-based effects for most purposes. Plus I'm disinclined to want to add extended unit/sprite/player effects, on account of new versions causing them to change or crash.

Hmm, I know I'm missing something... think hard people. Any effects you've seen before in maps that I haven't listed here?

ADDITION:
Also, should I make a map or maps to illustrate each effect?

Boneless, that's a interesting concept.
Except have the fire facing in, and stack a ton of firebats for one hell of an effect.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-06-04 at 10:56:31
So I think I'll add:

Circle of Stacked Firebats Attacking Object in Center- Eye of Sauron, infernal pit.
Heaped Khaydarin Crystal Formations- Iceburg/Glacier, ice wall, azure rock wall.
Zergling Corpse- Blood stain, blood splash.
Rhynadon Corpse- Green gas puff, heal effect, a fart ermm.gif.
Wandering Scarab w/ Recall Swirls Following- Great spirit, tornado (?), attack/spell effect.
Yamato Cannon- (Dabbu for credit) A meteor, shooting star, spell/attack effect.
Plain Scarabs (no movement glows)- (Dabbu for credit) Gold pieces, small bugs, pieces of treasure.
Placable Ashworld Rock Doodad Sprites- (Dabbu for credit... as far as I can remember at least) Avalanche rocks.
Cloaked SCV Attacks- Sparking machinery, sparks (genera), small fireworks, laser point.
Dark Templar Death- Misty puff, magician effect, dark spell effect.
Shield Battery + Observer Cloak Blurs + Cloaked Burning Buildings- Campfire.

So, thar ye be. Still looking out for any new ones (or better uses for old ones).

ADDITION:
Hey, could anyone help make me some images or short animations of various effects? I think that would make this a lot more useful to people, when they can see the effects themselves.

I know of an effect, but I really don't know how to make it. I saw it in the map Rockblocks, by Dabbu, its the holograms, I think they somehow relate to critters above the powerups.
Heres a link to the download-- http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=2580

Oh, so it was just blurring a unit? I'd assumed that it was some sort of weird critter/powerup combonation, as that thing looked kinda like a warped critter.
Thanks!
Ps. Wouldn't an observer work just as well, or for that matter, a carrier cloaked by an arbiter?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2005-06-05 at 23:41:30
No, an observer (or a unit cloaked by an arbiter) isn't created cloaked. You can see the unit for a split second before it 'disappears.' This isn't a problem with cloaked wraiths.

It looks weird because the wraith is facing a different direction every time it is spawned. With hypertriggers, it looks like the thing is changing shape rapidly.

Not sure if this has been said yet, but massive amounts of perfectly-stacked cloaked beacons.
If anyone wants I can get a screeny.

I want to know how Dabbu made the Hologram say different things even tho the map had it as the same unit. That would be an awesome visiual effect for unit names.

i think he used different crystals...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2005-06-09 at 14:20:20
That's also an easy one. He put a sprite on the exact place where the crystal was. Then, he removed the first one and replaced it with a different crystal later on. It looks like it's the same crystal because the sprite covers up the unit underneath.

I can make some images for the effects. Any in particular you want done?
