It wasn't just one file, each of them had 3 or more.

I've also seen no editing to the original music file and in no case in the File Description did it say that "He/She edited it or did anything".
Some even said "I found this and I think you guys should hear it".

I could just make it a Temporary Suspension and UnBan them after a couple of weeks, but it's still stealing. Doesn't really matter if it's a .wav or a .scx, hard work was put into both.
QUOTE
- The file will not be used for any credit stealing purposes. The creators name MUST be preserved on the file.

It says that on every file, not map. For this to be true, the map can't have been stolen in the first place, becasue if you downlaod a stolen map it automatically goes against this.

An Edited By: is a must to prevent further misundestandings.

So in slayer's case, does uploading part of a song from a Metallica CD and naming himself as the author not stealing?

I don't think so. Everyone knows it's made by metalica. The problem is that there needs to be a "copyrighted, or origanally created by", an "edited by" and a "submited by".

Meh, alright you're the boss. 1 week suspension.
I still say it's stealing.

There is a huge difference between faking yourself as the author of something or misinterpreting a field and stealing the product. You should have at least PMed them about it. Accidents happen. Stealing is when the put it forward publicly as theirs (such as Puni and his stolen sprites).

My two cents at least.

And if you have the time to go rampaging around banning people, couldn't you take ahack at the 30+ files lying around. (I can't right now, off to a meeting in 10 mins tongue.gif

That was total coincidence that I started looking at the DLDB. Tell you what, I'll try tommorow to get home early from work and start working on it.

Maybe, but they meant well in that case. I don't think they understood the meaning of stealing wavs, we may append that in the future.

I've added wavs before and called myself the Author because I was the one who recorded the sound myself. I always figured the "Author" meant "the one who made the file," as in made the wav file for the community to use. I never suspected that "Author" in a wav's case meant the creator of the specific sound/theme.

I didn't submit anything to the DLDB

YET>

How come it says AUTHOR is metallica, but submitter is Slayer. (link above)
so, I guess that isn't stealing.

After skimming through the Wav downloads I found the "Woohoo!" theme (http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=108) in which it says Yoshi is the author when really he isn't. Sneaky sneaky. wink.gif shifty.gif

My point exactly. I may have extracted it from the orginal song, but I didn't actually sing it. As I said, we dont have any policies for it yet. When we do, I'll reset wav creators.

ok... so will I still be able to get good .wavs from toa5555 because I really wanted him to help me transfer a midi file to a .wav file oh yeah, is that allowed here on SEN?

Oh man I probably did put my name down as the author and didn't really mean to do that. I know that I would not like to take credit from the creators of FF7 and such music themes as that. I did record that .wav on my Sound recorder from my computer and I didn't realize I put my name as the author of the file. So I truly am really sorry guys. sad.gif

As we say in math class, Q.E.D. (latin for 'it is shown'). This was an accident, not an incident of map stealing. I'm well inclined to believe slayer.

Thanks DT_ This was just an accident and I got really mixed up just a couple of times. And just one question, why would I want to steal those wavs/music in the first place? When I just want to put them on SEN.

Also: From what Beer said,

I don't recall putting my name as the author for that file. And if I did I really didn't mean too.

It's an easy thing to mistake 'author' for 'submitter' or not fully understand the meaning of 'author'.

I fully understand the meaning of author but I just might have mistaken it and added my name in both slots. Just like I said to everyone at SEN I am really sorry for the "Stealing"

So Yoshi or BeeR my banning sentence then is a week of suspension from the DLDB
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-06-02 at 11:14:19
I'm the one who should apologize. We don't have any rules or policies for wav files, I dont blame you for not knowing.
