Friends are to hang out with, and also someone to talk with like discuss problems with or something. Everyone has a friend, Humanity will just die out without having people to be friends with each other. Think about history, every famous person had friends. I think there are only two possible ways not to have friends:
1) If you are an extremely pessimistic dude who does not socialize at all, not make any eye contact, be rude, and is crazy.

I think some people are just naturally reclusive, I know a few people like that at school, but they aren't asses or anything, they are actually nice to talk to. They just aren't like the center of attention or anything, but you can have pretty interesting conversations with them.

Man, I barely know anyone like that. Everyone at my school starves for attention. Middle school drama with friends is the worst ever. Only a few people are decent enough to be serious to.

Same here parthx, almost all the other kids in my grade are extremely loud and boisterous, most of them won't read more than 400 pages every year, while myself and a few others read something around 10000 pages, if not more. Not that reading is some kind of guarantee that people are reclusive like devilesk mentioned, it just makes it more likely that they are. It seems that most middle schoolers are far too busy trying to impress the opposite sex to even consider being silent for a single moment. And their taste sucks, all the girls at my school except for maybe 3 are incredibly stupid, like "oh, whats a variable", or "Don't use such big words, they scare me, keep it to under 5 letter words". Young people now days are just getting stranger, and stranger.... Back in the day when I was in middle school, I only had five to six close friends. That's all I needed. I didn't care if I impressed the other sex, it didn't matter to me. There was no point (cause at the time I was just a little, overweight fat kid that no chicks wanted to like)
Now days though, it's different (cause i'm older, more mature, and waaaaaaaaaaaay better looking then I was back in middle school)

I blame all the pop culture they're fed by their TVs for messing up middle schoolers (I for one havn't watched any more TV than an episode or 2 of star trek for over a year, call me a nerd) But I really think that it is the TV, especially when they watch stuff on MTV, or reality TV.
