this is not for WoW this just affect servers like battle.net and wow dont run on battle.net

Also, why u guys care so much about this.. i kinda hate others servers that are not Battle.net

Look other Battle.net servers allow pirated games to play.
It allows me to go download starcraft and brood war online give it to a ton of people, give them a random cd key and have then play on non b.net servers.

The reason the non b.net servers are better reponse times is...LETS SEE!! How many people are on b.net? How many people used non b.net servers.. Exactly.

Look, pirating is a big issue today for all games. Publishers takes about 70% of the profit. Thats like $7 for the developer per game copy.(Which is a big reason why Valve made steam).

Look, this dosn't stop Mods or anything. All it stops is programs that had to decompile Blizzards tools.
These non b.net servers did that. Now lets take things one step furthor. People decomiling starcraft, learn even more on how data is sent and being able to create even more powerfull and harder to stop hacks.

Now Blizzard can start going after those who made these hacks.

Wait, since mod tools like MemGraft is not updated for 1.13c yet, and third party servers are shut down, does this mean that players of mods will have no where to go?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2005-09-04 at 00:24:30
Nope most mods use regular b.net biggrin.gif

So what. I don't care about what is legal and what isn't. It is illegal to do that...WHAT EVER.

And yes we have our public WoW server. Its for free and I can play my pirated WoW on it biggrin.gif .

Well, actually no. There was something wrong with the patch so I quit WoW on kenga. It was quite buggy too. But kenga still rules because it is totally independent from blizzard. The short hands of federal law just can't reach us.

From an economic standpoint it makes sense, you don't want anyone else comming near to modifying any element of a product you produce. But from an opensource programming perspective, I say Arrg. disgust.gif

DK That us exactly true. it is blizzard's game. if it was mine i would have made sure that nothing funny would happen.

OF course you can make mods. i would make mods if i had a DECENT program.

QUOTE(devilesk @ Sep 4 2005, 09:16 AM)
That's not the point of Blizzard suing the servers. I don't think it matters whether or not the third party servers are better or not, it's doesn't have to do with what they are doing would cost Blizzard money or whatever.

And anyway the court ruled people can't reverse engineer Blizzard games, which is a bad thing to do anyway.

yes indeed who cares about third party servers. they are just crap.

QUOTE(BeeR_KeG @ Sep 4 2005, 11:01 AM)
I'll have to agree with Blizzard. Blizzard needs to have control over their games by having them played on their B.net servers. This way they can support users much easier and patch problems much faster and correctly.
And having your own public WoW server is illegal.

Read the terms of Agreement, ANYTHING that doesn't comply with those terms is illegal. Blizzard doesn't put those terms because they want to, it's because they went to a lawyer and court and made their copyrights.

Yes. Even though i use mods i dont use other servers. sure i know if blizzard are after me it is then when i dont log on to bnet.

Not that most people will hear about this, and not that most people want to play fairly anyways. People are going to make hacks either way. Sadly.

As for suing, it is their right, it is their game.
They are trying to protect themselves from losing money to pirated WoW servers, unlike SC and B.net, which is free except for the internet time people spend to use them. Compared to SC users, WoW users are... simply put, insane. I have multiple friends who play WoW, and their lives are completely dominated by it; this means more money for Blizzard every hour, plus fifty dollars per game purchased, plus the potential money per sell of the expansion (don't try to deny it, it is very obvious that an expansion WILL COME OUT), which is another forty or fifty dollars, and the time people pay their internet providers and log on to Battle.net. That's somewhere anything above ten dollars a second. For awhile... This decision really affects WoW, but it does have nasty side effects for Battle.net users. (Private non hacking servers) But my point is, if Blizzard pisses off people on Battle.net, it does not matter. They only get one source of money from us (IP time). So now instead of making ten dollars, they make a cent less. It doesn't damage their surplus except for the fact they will merely have less surplus. Although it could add up after several months.

And for the whole EULA violation fiasco and infringement...
No need to open up an old can of worms. (Patch 1.13b, 1.13c, EUDEnabler, No More EUDEnabler threads, for those who wish to learn what we have argued)

Above statement...

I see no big prices in there. Starcraft is just $10 and you play for free for ever. WoW you need $60 to buy the game and then $15 monthly to play. Those $15 monthly are for patches and in-game support. They have Gamemasters that help you with any problems you encounter with the server and/or system. Each patch is like a whole expansion set. $15 a month isn't a lot, it's just 50 cents a day. That means one less coke can per day per 3 weeks.

The problem isn't just that, it's also that Blizzard won't have control of the game. Not having control of the game, like Diablo 1, means that it will die.

Well, I actually can't get original Starcraft here in Latvia. And don't have 15$ per month to spare on a game. And why buy WoW for 60$ if I can get it for 12$. But the quality of Blizzard WoW server is the best and personal WoW servers are still a lot worse. But at least they are for free.

Other than the reasons BeeR have stated, when I look at situations like this I look from a programmer's point of view (since I'm a programmer myself), and playing on pirated servers is worst than stealing.
It's a disrespectful, and disgusting action towards the people who worked hard to create those pieces of entertainment. You don't only steal their material, but also keep using it regularly with others like you, as if you never did anything illegal.

laugh.gif BeeR stated something about why people suck? Blizzard don't lose anything just because people are playing SC on private servers. They have already gained all their SC money and they have almost abandoned the game. And I do not feel bad just because I am using illegal SC or anything else illegal. I think that game companies make enough money with their games and they can live without my money. And it is so much easier to go to my pp(personal pirate) than buying the game at the store. Because my pp lives very near to me but have to drive by bus to the closest legal game store.

I do agree that Blizzard abandoned Starcraft. Yet they are still entitled to do what they want with it. I am really mad at Blizzard, for not focusing on Starcraft (Which has more fans to Warcraft), and making a Starcraft II. But, yet it is their game, and they do not want it, so it should be kept that way.
