I would guess either he's never lost someone close to him, or he has and this is his way of dealing with it. My older brother and sister were killed by a drunk driver. It wasn't their fault they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But if you were to say they deserved it or I should just shut up and move on, then I'd say you have a lot to learn.
