But it is estimated that almost a third of children experience bullying in their early secondary school years.
Hmm, the bullying actually stopped when I entered secondary school. Guess I'm lucky, since I haven't seen anyone in my grade get bullied since grade 9.

In Alberta I actually believe its illegal to bully, and you can get fined for it.
The thing about bullying is that it is sometimes a "grey" area. There's a point where people are just "fooling around" and then there is bullying. The "bully" may just be fooling around, but the person who is being bullyed is too quiet to voice their opinion.
In my opinion, insulting the damn bully back and standing your ground when they first start to bother you, puts them off.

This reminds me of a kid two grades lower than me. For some reason, he's terrified of me, thinking I'm going to beat him to pieces, which is quite far from the truth, seeing he can probably beat ME up if we get into a fight. Apparently, it's due to some of his initial impressions of me. I think my first words were something like "You screw up, we're going to beat you to pieces" in what IMO was a very joking tone. Of course, I was just fooling around but now, I get the feeling he thinks me of a big bully. Of course, the kid in question has almost nil self-confidence, and is scared of his own shadow, but still...
Of course, some people really need to grow a thicker skin. I can understand of some big guy is issuing death threats, but heck, insults don't exactly fall under the category of bullying to me. Jeez, if he insults you, insult him back. Don't go to a corner and cry.
