Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Radiation Damage

That won't work, if a unit cannot 'punch through' another unit's armor and does less than 1 point of damage, it will only take 2 hits to do one point of damage. Its jsut how the game works

Arg... Didn't realise that. Well, I can't think of any other way this could be possible... What about Plague? Or does that take away too much health?

hm, didn't think about that, damage wouldn't be a problem but is there a way to keep the plague being constantly replenished

If each player controls just one infantry, you can just create a damaging unit at that unit's location every few seconds and remove it after 1 attack cycle (about 1.5 seconds).

How about that?

nope, there will be around a dozen units, so it won't work.

thanks for all the help guys, but it looks like it just can't be done. I'm either gonna use the cloaked bunker method and disallow vehicles or disallow infantry and use vehicles instead.

Well, I have an idea. How about just kill an infantry after a certain period of time? Instead of having him be damaged slowly, have him destroyed after he stays 'outside' too long.

I have a simple system that probably won't fit what you want, but here it is: Have a bunch of units in a corner far, far, away. At each time interval, kill X number of units. when all the units die, you die. It won't have any effect on the infantry's HP, but ultimately, the unit would die of "radiation poisining," which was what you wanted. By the way, you're not making a map based on Mercenaries, are you? What you're doing kind of reminds me of capturing one of the Aces...

ya, thats what i was considering but I wanted radiation to be a slow death because you would have to worry about damage from both being attacked and radiation. This way, if you get careless near the end of the mission(no matter how good you were at the beginning at preserving your units' health) you still might lose if you get attacked by an enemy patrol because the radiation would have worn you down throughout the game.

and this game is not based off mercenaries. that a starcraft game or an actual game?

btw, how do you lock the topic

Wait a minute, after careful reading ive come up with a few questions to the post starter.

Why would it be practical to have raditation damage in the first place?
What purpose is the raditation damage?
Is there really a need for radiation damage?
Will radiation damage drastically affect gameplay?
Isn't there some other alternative to your intent on getting radiation damage?
Are you attempting to create something realistic? Because starcraft is not realistic... pinch.gif

Why is it that you cant use EUDs and the new condition that can find out unit health?

-its not necessarily practical, but it would be an interesting feature and it has to do with the storyline

-it would a unique feature and add a little more 'dimension' to the gameplay by giving something for the player to consider and keep track of.

-Its not necessary, but it would be a nice touch

-Not too drastically, but it would still be nice to have it in there

QUOTE(Red2Blue @ Dec 19 2005, 04:48 AM)

-I'm not too sure what you're asking but taking damage from anything other than radiation would seem weird in a radioactive wasteland

-thats exactly what i'm trying to do but it just doesn't seem like its possible

Xenogis: I can use EUDs but it just won't work for over a dozen units and thats how many I need for gameplay and storyline issues.

It doesn't sound very impossible, its kinda giving an idea.

if you're referring to the radiation, its not impossible, but difficult enough to implement that it is very unpractical
