All it needs is the one little boost for it to melt.

It might not happen in our lifetime or even in our childrens' lifetimes. But if it happens, it might as well be the end for us.

Once the disruption begins, it won't stop. It is like domino effect. It might be happening slowly, but once we get to certain point, I believe this will happen as fast as the one on the movie.

As Golden-Fist has pointed out, the little boost would have to be a big one smile.gif

I believe by the time it happens (if it happens) We will be off this rock.

But as I've stated before, the "heating" of the earth is just its natural process smile.gif

Do you think our human activities can result to this extreme?

yes, i think our activity can cawse very serious problems. in the moovie all natural disasters that happened were increased in size & devastation they cawse. i think that's not real, but the context is real. my reply is - yes, we cawse natural disasters.

I read in a science magazine that the ice caps lost or lose(per day) a billion tons of water in the ocean. So it looks like the warm up has been enough to melt a little bit.

Hmmm... How I perceived this movie... It was something like that people polluted the world and when people finally REALLY learned that it was affecting the planet it was too late. So everything started changing and these storms happened. And after these storms are done it would be in another ice age. And after that everything was alright? So the world is getting like... Sick, and after it has it's problem like everything freezes the world will be all better again? Except just a bit colder for like 10,000 years? I dunno. It was a pretty cool movie anyways. I like seeing things being destroyed on a large scale. Even though it was pretty fakey.

Ok, listen guys. Our humanly activities aren't gonna do shiz. If we had never polluted the air, an ice age would still come. If we polluted the air a ton extra, an ice age would still come. The Earth has cycles of ice ages. So don't scream so much about how our pollution is causing an ice-age, because the ice-age would come anyways.

Secondly, the Day After Tomorrow took a perfectly respectable scientific theory and mauled it to death. The Day After Tomorrow is NOT scientifically accurate WHATSOEVER.

Did you even read the topic?
That's due to CFCs and isn't completly our fault. How many other miracle chemicals ended up destroying the earth's Ozone? None.

QUOTE(DeadlyInnocence)
I am not an expert in climatology, but from what I know, there is a huge hole in the ozone layer right above the Antartica. If so, all it has to do is get a little heat going down there and then the ice cap will melt.

A hole in the Ozone layer doesn't make it hotter down there, it just exposes everything to Ultra Violet rays which cause Skin Cancer and other types of Cancer. You also have to have your bare skin revealed to the Ultra Violet lays, and the chances of anyone looking up in Antarica are very low. However it's sad to think a lot of animals might die soon down there sad.gif.

If you were an "expert" in the subject you wouldn't be on here asking people for their opinion. If you want to hear people's opinions then don't shut them down and tell them they're completely wrong and stupid when they do give a response. I'm pretty sure when people write in a discussion room you shouldn't expect everything people say is going to be 100% factual, it's opinion- so grow the fark up. *7-7's sister*

I am just saying it is wicked warm for being up here, because just a couple days ago or we almost hit record lows for the day it was 27.

That is a huge difference. I as just saying, I wasnt saying that it is hotter here than anywhere else!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Snake)Ling on 2006-03-31 at 19:45:04
Dude, New England, all of New England, has a big difference between summer and winter. It's quite NORMAL for summer to be in the 80s or 90s, and quite NORMAL for it to be in the 50s, 60s and 70s in spring, and even more NORMAL for it to be icily below 10 in the winter.

7-7, have you just recently arrived in Maine or something? You don't seem accustomed to the weather.

Actually I have lived in Maine all my life, all I was saying that it was the first warm day in a while. OMG why is everyone making it such a big deal?

Because you're trying to make it seem like it's hot.

Come to Phoenix in the middle of June. You want to see hot? You will walk down the sidewalk, and it will be 120+ with NO WIND.

So please just stfu already. I think we've heard enough of your useless replies.

Do you fail to realize that there already were "Greenhouse gasses"? And that we have not made anything as human beings, elementally light enough to even touch that hight??
