Alright guys, just keep it a clean discussion.

Anyway, I haven't heard much about Saint's Row, so I'd have to play it before I make my judgements.

As GF says, open-endedness can be GTA's weakness and strength. Sometimes, I just want to drive around the city and that's perfect in GTA. Other times, I want to get missions, but there's too many distractions or I can't find where to go.

One thing GTA did for me is it allowed me to screw around in a somewhat realistic world, where I'd get arrested in real life. It satisfied my curiosity.

It's very clean so far smile.gif
Though it's sort of clogging up my reviews topic. And what I meant is that there are people who don't bother looking at the game's potential and just screw around with what's most obvious with the game, which is how open ended it is.

I saw good reviews for Guitar Hero a while back, but the idea didn't really intrest me. Paying $70 dollars for some useless controller, and a stupid rhythm game, didn't really fill my intrests. I played a Demo of it one day, and it was insanely hard (I later found out, that's because it was on Expert mode) so I still didn't like it. Then I played it again recently on an easier difficulty (Easy) and I had a lot of fun. I knew I had to buy it.

The best way to describe Guitar Hero in a sentance is: "It's a shame you can't rent it". It's a really good and fun concept, who would've thought pressing bright buttons and flicking a white tab would be so much fun! But the game itself lasts 20 hours at most, and by at most, I really mean it. If you played this game for 20 hours, you'd be sick of it. The novelty would've worn off, there are only so many songs you can play (And enjoy, there's a lot of Metal crap).

However it's a good game while it lasts and shouldn't be missed, luckily they're making a sequel which I hope uses the same controller, since the controller itself costs $40 dollars a budget sequel would be very nice. As for how the game looks and sounds, it's all solid. Most of the tracks are pretty good, and range from a lot of things (Cream, Queen, Judas Preist, The Donanas, Jimi Hendrix, Queens of the Stoneage, etc.). As for the stages you play in, I guess they look ok, you won't really get to look at them since you'll be focusing on the buttons coming towards you.

And I sort of forgot how to mention how the game plays. You have your guitar with five buttons, on easy mode you only use three of them, medium you use four, hard you use five and expert you get a lot of insane mixing of all five. You hold down the button that comes towards you on a "Fret Board" which is basically a big box that has different circular color coded buttons come down, and when they read the bottom you have to strum the white tab of the guitar (Which is suppose to be the strings). And that's basically as far as the gameplay goes. Sometimes you have to hold notes longer then others.

The nice thing about the gameplay though is that it's like a real guitar. For starters, the neck of the controller is the same size of a real guitar neck. The fret placement also comes into affect. For instance, the green button is the fartherest away from the body of the guitar, so if you hold down the green on, and any other button that's closer to the guitar, you'll still get the note without a penlty. It's sort of hard to describe, but basically it plays like a real guitar, except there are no strings.

To close things up there are a few flaws. There's not as many songs as you want there to be, beating the game on easy takes and hour and half (Litterally) and you can only get so many Guitars, there's around 11, and most of them you have to unlock. There's also two characters you have to unlock using money you get from playing shows. And you'll want to get them, because the starting characters, are not really that great.

And finally there's no Rage Agaginst the Machine, which truly saddens me. They could've gotten Roll Right or Guerilla Radio in there.

How it stacks up:
Looks -- 8 -- No RATM. Lots of variety though, I found most of the tracks pleasing.
Gameplay -- 10 -- The gameplay is nice and a nice breath of fresh air, when your done playing you'll feel like you can actually play guitar (Sadly real guitar is a lot harder)
Value -- Bad -- I can't imagine playing this game longer then 15 hours or so, it'll just get boring due to the lack of songs. The game itself takes an hour and a half, maybe three hours if you suck at it.[/center]

Ah, I almost got this for my sister for her birthday. I guess lots of music games are like this like they look interesting, but they lack depth other than hit the key when told to.

My sister however loves DDR.

I also saw two other ones, Karaoke Revolution and Beatmania. How are those?

I wasn't intrested in those games. I actually play guitar so I wanted to feel like I knew what I was doing (Whether it be fake or real). And I also played a demo of it and enjoyed it, I don't think they have Beatmania, and Karaoke Revolution for Demos. However if she likes DDR I would assume she'd like those games, since they are the same genre.

To be honest I didn't like the whole Rhytm game myself, you'd have to play a demo of it. Maybe you can get one of your friends to buy it and try it out.
