More than likely, the threat to use tactical nuclear weapons against Iran is a bluff. As stupid as Bush may be, he's not dumb enough to start a nuclear war.

As much as I disagree with the United States acting as the "world police force" and governing other countries, Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. Even if Iran would not use them, there's a chance that they would be given to/stolen by rouge terrorists that would have no qualms about nuking a major city.

Nah we wouldn't nuke them.  Thats international suicide.

If Bush is stupid enough to try to give more power to the military (Even stated in his State Of The Union address) and to march into countries for no reasons, we deserve the suicide.

Oh, so we haven't already internationally suicided? Plus, even if we wouldn't nuke, the fact that the White House wants to keep nukes on the table is ridiculous.

Bluff, why would we want Iran to think that we wouldn't?

Good, more power to the military, they are the reason we have our freedoms and rights.

You refuse to listen to any reason other then your own, if you honetly think we go into countries for no reason then I wouldn't know what to think of you anymore. Plus if there was no reason then it would be a waste of money to move those troops, and from what I hear we are in debt so that doesn't make any sense.

You support unconstitutional acts, yet you call yourself an American.

You're a freaking hypocrite.

Chris, thats total bullcrap. The military is not why we have our freedoms and rights. We have our freedoms because there were people willing to stand up and say something. To keep their guns when the confiscation acts went into effect. Remember, the American army consisted of ordinary people, farmers, not fully trained marines. Humanity has put it self into a position where in order to survive you need a terror force of your own.

Euro, you are comparing two different time period and two different situations. You are comparing two different things that just happen to occur in the same country.

Obviously you have no idea what your talking about...

Even throughout the rest of US History, to say that we owe all our freedoms and rights to the military is a blind statement. You and Chris... think the meanings change over time. They don't.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stalingrad on 2006-05-05 at 23:46:03
What are you talking about? Hundreds of nations depended on their military for their freedom throughout history anyways. You have to be totally naive to believe that diplomacy always works.

That kind of was the beginning of the military in America. The minute men were young battle-ready people with guns that were ready to defend their nation. In sense, that is an army, and without that army we wouldn't be living the same way we do today. It wasn't organized as well as it is now vs back in the day, but it was a standing army none-the-less.

Yeah, I kind of re-read my post and misinterpreted what you were getting at.

No, the minute men were in no way an army or military. They were simple folk who were prepared to defend their homes. Everything in that post was already said about the America.

By the way, check out my new thread...

I do believe you have twisted and skewed the meaning of Militia. A Militia is what we had at the beginning of our country. The Militia was ran by our General, and later to be President, George Washington. Never was there an army in the beginnings of our country because after the war EVERYONE went home; Hence, the fighters of the Revolutionary War were a MILITIA.

An army is never disbanned. Militias are.

Minute men were still an army.

QUOTE
Army (from French armée) can, in some countries, refer to any armed force. More commonly, however, it is only used specifically to refer to a land force of the military.

Just because it doesn't meet your standards of an army with great organization with tanks and artillery, the minute men could be considered and army. They were armed and came together to complete a goal and defend their land. Sounds like an army to me, even if in the simplest form.

The technical term is reserve army; still a military force.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kellodood on 2006-05-06 at 15:06:42
An army STAYS TOGETHER. The Minute Men DISBANDED. There is a difference between the two, so why do you continue to merge them together?

Minute Men were a Militia.
Robert E. Lee was in an Army.

If you STILL don't see the difference, you don't even deserve to be here.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Snake)Ling on 2006-05-06 at 15:50:06
Kellimus; by your definition, the Iraqi millitary was a militia because we disbanded it. By your definition, an army that is not very well trained is a militia.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kashmir on 2006-05-06 at 16:05:43
uh no snake ling. You make no sense. WE defeated it and disbanded it. When we say they disbanded we mean of their own will. We don't mean a foreign power came and kicked our asses. Your trying to prove a point by twisting words.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kellodood on 2006-05-06 at 16:09:13
Isn't that what EVERYONE in SD and LD do? Twist words? It's quite pathetic.

Twisting words to your own argument is smart.

That why you do it? Actually its not smart... its redundent and is getting tiresome to read.
