I'm starting to actually fall asleep during these naps.

What about dreaming during these naps, do u dream sth, or is there not enough time?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Demaris on 2006-06-13 at 15:12:39

I'm not falling asleep fast enough to dream, it's usually only the last 10-15 minutes of the nap I'm sleeping.

Falling asleep during the naps is a good thing. I wake up more rested.

I went to my friends house and slept over and then he came over mine then we pulled another and we tried again so we both went over another friends house and pulled another. We were up together for. We didnt sleep for about 80 hours in a row. We dropped around 4:00 that 3rd day. lol, biggrin.gif

Wow, this sleep schedule sounds like a great way to save time. I'm a workaholic, myself, and I often get frustrated by the needs of the body because I'd rather just keep working on my things. Factor in the face I have a little boy to take care of, and you'll see that I never accomplish things as quickly as I want to. If I ever get the determination, I might try this so I'll have more ME time.

Well I just slept for 23 hours, from my 4 PM nap yesterday. My friend is unreliable to wake up me.......

I guess I failed my experiment.

Dem, at your age, your body doesn't just need the REM phase of sleep, it needs the actual rest as well. Your body is still growing, you may not have enough energy throughout the day, and your immune system will likely be low, leading you to illness. On such crutial stages of development, it may have undesirable and permenant effects on your body.

But hey, people have done worse to their bodies =)

ADDITION:
Umm... use an alarm clock, fool. happy.gif

I was using a 30 minute silent track plus other songs on my comp with headphones, but I took the headphones off (apparently) after the first time the song went off. My friend was playing computer right next to me, and didn't wake me up....

On the contrary, you've proven a great ginny-pig! tongue.gif

Thanks for finishing your lil test, if you hadn't told me you failed I might've tried it myself and had all kinds of problems tongue.gif

I still don't think you should give up yet though, you should just perfect your system so you get more than 3 hours,
you also might want to change it from 30 minutes, that short of a time isn't good for the human body

ADDITION: heres some plans that might work better, you don't have to try them if you don't want to though
6 hour sleep time: 1-2 AM, 5-6 AM, 9-10 AM, 1-2 PM, 5-6 PM, 9-10 PM, and it repeats here
5 hour sleep time: 1-2 AM, 6-7 AM, 11 AM-12 PM, 4-5 PM, 9-10 PM, and it repeats here
alternative 5 hour sleep time: 1-2 AM, 5:30-6:30 AM, 11 AM-12 PM, 4:30 PM-5:30 PM, 9-10 PM, and it repeats here
4 hour sleep time: 1-2 AM, 7-8 AM, 1-2 PM, 7-8 PM, and it repeats here

Try using an actual alarm clock. tongue.gif

The downside to this sleep schedule is that it can be inflexible. I’ve read that you can delay naps by an hour if necessary, but missing a nap can cause a rapid crash that takes a while to recover from. This means you only have about 3.5 hours of waking time between naps, 4.5 hours if you push it. So this can restrict your options a bit. Of course, you have to balance that sacrifice against the gain of many extra hours per day, every day. Interesting trade off…. It reminds me of something you’d find in The Book of Questions.

Plus it’s just plain weird. So naturally I want to try it. smile.gif

I’m starting this polyphasic sleep schedule today, so last night was my last night of “normal” sleep for a while. I still got up at 5am this morning, and then I’ll begin doing the naps every 4 hours starting this afternoon. I’ll use a countdown timer alarm set for 30 minutes, so I won’t oversleep. I’ve decided that my sleep times will be 1am, 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, and 9pm. I aim to continue at least until next summer… or death, whichever comes first. If it seems to be going well and I retain basic functionality, then I’ll decide whether I want to continue with it.

I've been doing this for a while, I can basically command sleep (comes in handy in class) but anyway, it's very tiring the first week, it does get better.

I'm DEFINANTLY doing this this summer. I'm still technically in school, but I think it'll be hard to work in crazy schemes with my friends.

Since you seem to be the only one who has successfully tried it,
mind giving us any details on the upsides/downsides of this sleeping pattern, along with whether or not it's worth it? biggrin.gif

also, would you mind telling us the sleeping pattern you use? happy.gif

I'm using the same one that Demaris uses. One tip I can give is don't sleep in a loud place at all, these are "power naps" which are proven to give you more energy then a long one, because after the long one you feel really tired and drowsy.

It was worth it for me, especially on the offseason in football, I can basically sleep on command, at the most is takes me two minutes to fall asleep.

Also, make the area where you sleep is a bit light, like sunlight through the shades, for some reason, it soothes me. guess it depends on the person because it was worth it, my friend did it, he wasn't for it at all. Takes alot of endurance though, it takes a week or two to get used to.

Obviously: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep can do a lot.
