Thanks for the approval, Kame. And as far as the financial stability of SEN goes, a couple of people (including myself) have offered to pay to keep SEN going, so I doubt that would be much of an issue.

QUOTE(Kame @ Jan 12 2007, 01:36 AM)
Doodan keeps closing topics that shouldn't be closed. A few days ago someone post in the Weclome! forum 'hey, i'm not really new, but I came back.' now the proper thing to do is to move it to misc, but he locks it and says that this conversation belongs in misc. Then someone else comes a long in misc and posts a similiar topic and that is closed for bein spam. I don't approve, but by no means should he be demoted for it.

Not that I feel compelled to defend myself, but I guess this is as good a time as any to address one of the least popular anti-spam strategies I'm following. And that's my locking of "I'm leaving", "I'm back", and birthday threads.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of making all three in the past. But more often than not, these threads are just made for attention, and it's rarely received well. Most topics like these are greeted by people saying "Nobody cares", "Good for you", "Die in a fire", etc. The many "I'm leaving" threads of Kellimus, and the many "I'm back" threads of 007Torrasque inspired me to crack down on them. I've (unfortunately) belonged to some forums that have over HALF of their topics consisting of those kinds of threads. And worse, threads like "OMG I MADE 500 POSTS!!! XD" are allowed to live. There's just something pathetic (IMO) about having a lot of those kinds of threads, and I will continue to lock them as I see fit unless SEN policy is changed to allow them.

Now, I do make exceptions. If a staff member is leaving or is coming back from an absence, then I have no problem with it being there. It might be important. Also, if a member has been gone for about a year and is returning, that's cool too, because it might feel like a reunion for some people. However, if they just went away for a couple of weeks or months, then IMO its spammy to make "I'm back" topics because the person is still probably fresh on most people's minds. It's almost an invitation to get flamed, and it often happens.

And about that particular example you named: I locked the thread in Welcome because I didn't feel that person had been gone long enough (only about 3 or 4 months), so I locked it and included something like "Even if you were gone long enough, such a thread would belong in Misc." I didn't lock it because it was in the wrong forum. I did it because it was too soon for such a topic by that particular member. The other one in Misc. was locked for the same reason: Not long enough.

I hope that makes things clear on my stance about those threads.

Nice move towards the moderation clean-up.

I find it strange that Doodan picks up and acts on the lightest things.

I got a spam warning for incorrectly posting in "the rate sig" forum because link for the signature didn't show and all that showed was one word: "Tah!"; an invisible post or delete would have been more correct in my opinion... is that something you consider spam Doodan?

I haven't touched the rate my sig section since after... I'm too afraid he might ring me up for saying "Hi."

And if you're bored Doodan, at least look for real situations to moderate instead of creating your own oportunities to whack your mallet.

Geez, it was a verbal warn and you weren't fined. All you put was "Tah!" in the rating thread. There was nothing else there. Not even a failed link. I considered it spam, and I think most would agree.

And about "creating opportunities", all three of the spam thread examples I listed were mostly being locked before I was even hired. I don't see anything wrong with continuing that and drawing some slightly clearer guidelines in the process.

Lately the people who've needed "mallet whacking" are mostly older members, but so far they've proven immune to moderation for various reasons (wether they're on their original accounts or not). That's about to change, though, and not because you said anything.

chuiu... you're right. I should just ban people more freely. Maybe I'm too patient. Maybe I'm just struck in awe how immature people on here can be and my brain shuts down so I can't think straight. I'll have to work on this.

Kame, kame, kame... I struck a nerve, did I? See, here's my issue: If you don't want to respect the community and want to constantly talk down upon the general population... I won't respect you. Why should you care? Don't. But if you are going to dish crap out, make sure you can take it back. The community might need improving, but you're not helping any.
We used to talk, remember that? Have nice little conversations. Share personal infos. If I was truly a "total dick", I would make very snide comments relating to such.
And please don't accuse me of being a spammer when your account made quite a few posts all over various topics, with the exact same message. You seemed to think it was rather funny, from my impression. Okay. (And this is what "broke the camel's back.")

But see though, here's where I differ from where you put your loyalities. I won't delete your stupid post... ban you... ignore your opinions... and try everything in my power to make myself look better than I am. Go ahead and talk. And I'm not going to abide by his main rule "if you don't like it, gtfo" because I don't really want you, or anyone else, to leave. What I really want is for you all to play nicely, and while you might not llike everyone on SEN, you don't have to show it the way you all tend to.

Good.

IP: My idea of a 'total dick' is someone who is all buddy-buddy with you for a while, who relies on you and who you rely on, and all of a sudden as soon as something small changes-such as me being unable to continue to be a moderator, or such as me joining latova and being branded 'the enemy' (but this is a whole other conversation-decides to cut off all communications with you. I'd be damned if I said I haven't tried. But all of a sudden you're around on msn...well I haven't seen you around, and you're on my buddy list. Um ya. That's a dick move. I never remember saying anything to you that was an inner, deep, dark, secret like you make it sound. It was a bad time when we first met, so who knows what the hell we talked about anyways. And if you'd like to refresh my memory, go ahead. But all I seem to remember was your explicit solicits.

Its a dick move to go babbling around to my friends about the horrors I've comitted on your forums. He's not my father, he's not going to slap my wrist. I'm not saying VIVA LA MAPLANTIS!!/VIVA LA YOSHI!!/VIVA LA LATOVA!! [spam spam spam spam]. I did not spam, flame, or troll anywhere on SEN due to quote unquote 'faction alliance.' Everything you see here is a direct result of me, myself doing it, not some third party vicariously thru me. The deal with the recent spam is on log. And as is true of the last one, I did not do it, but I take full responsiblity for what happened.

The fact is, you could ask anyone on maplantis, and they'd say I am not even on there. I look around from time to time, because my old SEN buddies are there. It really sucks that I can't say hello to some of them when I see them around, because it would be really nice to be all like, hey ent, its firekame, you probably don't remember me but I just wanted to drop a line! biggrin.gif And I don't want to create a 'smurf' or 'mule' because in the end, that would create more problems. But alas, when I spam a dozen random forums it is me flaunting the 'immaturity' of a group I do not belong to.

I did not join the team of latova to spite anyone, which has also been suggested. I'm not 'in league' with your self-proclaimed enemy, Mike. Ironically, he has been saying to me before he even left SEN things about creating his own CMS. I think the thing holding him back at the time was high school and issues associated with thus. But he has matured now, and he knows what he wants to do. When he presented the idea to me, he never said, 'hey, let's make this open source CMS just to piss of SEN!!' Never. He made it because IPB was not fulfilling what he wanted in a community. He would log on occasionally and we'd talk and he'd say 'you know what'd be really cool in SEN? to put this and this up. But I can't, because of a damn vulnerability (or) a problem directly related to a bug in IPB.'

QUOTE
I won't delete your stupid post... ban you... ignore your opinions...

Oh you've done it all before. Its natural for me to assume the worst, and I know that if you keep my post up, it was because you knew you could argue your way out of it, because you have before. The reality is that SEN is fraught so highly drama and emotion that its only natural for people to easily backdown, or be forced out of a coversation due to flaming.

So yea, I think the fact that you make assumptions is a total dick move. I think that you have stool pigeons is also a total dick move. I've recieved from another staff member a very strong 'tsk tsk' because I was in league with Mike. I kid you not, that was the exact message he was sending. He said I was at risk to get put in groups with Latova or Maplantis. What the hell? The two have nothing to do with each other. And i don't even know what maplantis has to do with Mike. So maplantis uses latova software, there's other forums out there that do too. female doging to Mike about something Maplantis did would be like me going to IPB and female doging about something you did. Its ridiculous. So that's why I think you're a total dick.

Oh... and I want to address the whole "omg mike = enemy, latova = enemy" crap. Before I was highly inactive and then before the whole osmap thing leading to me being like "give over the domain or take over sen" crap, I used to help mike by finding bugs, xss and sql holes (under the mr. a name...) give suggestions, he did the same back occasionally. I remember a rather lengthy discussion between us, trying to figure out the best way to have forums automatically mark themselves as read when they are indeed 100% read. We posted code back and forth on how we were solving the problem... (even though we both did things completely different). It was good times.

I just really wish you would stop talking out of your ass.

IP and Kame I would suggest you guys do it in Privite Messages since you're more talking about how it sucks you two can't be friends anymore, then anything to do with Moderation Cleanup. So i'll reply to Kame's original post.
QUOTE(Kame)
No it isn't. Moose is ten times more professional than the two admins that accompany him. I would demote them right away. The main problem with that is who will pay to keep this site up? I think that IP flames, spams or trolls just about as much as the next person on here.

So does DTBK but no one seems to care. However, unlike DTBK, IP can code, and pays for the website (And yeah, I know DTBK donated $100 dollars, I'm reminded of it each time I see him listed as "Admin") so IP is needed. And sadly, Ip has probably made more changes in the past 2 days then DTBK and Moose combined in the last month. But I'm just guessing.
QUOTE(Kame)
Admins: Moose, CaptainWill
Global Mods: Doodan, Rantent, MilleniumArmy.
Mods: Moogle, Syphon, Doodle, Devlin.

Admins... eh. The point of an admin is to fix problems with the site itself, CaptainWill is right where he should be as a Global Mod. If it ends up he knows how to code, then I guess he can be an admin. Moose knows limited coding and can fix minor things, so his Adminess is completely useless.

Global Mods. I only have a problem with MillenniumArmy since he doesn't know what a flame is. I got warned for flamming, and when I asked him to point out what part of my post was flamming he didn't reply. So, no. I think Mill would be ok as a mod of the Map Making Section however, I don't know how he got in the Other Section.

As for other mods, I have a Vendetta against Syphon for giving me the dumbest warning ever. There was a f*cking question mark at the end, he didn't even know if I was flamming or not. Here's the answer Syphon: No. However, he's probably changed since then and I can't think of anyone better. So sure. Devlin seems like he won a popularity contest and a modmenship was the prize, and I don't know who Doodle is, but let's keep him. As for Doodan, I got a semi stupid warning but it was settled and it wasn't his fault. I was warned for having porn as my offical website, and I've had that for possibly 2 years now. I only have evidence of a year ago. So I got it removed, since you can't tell me that NO ONE has looked in my profile for the past year and not reported it. Doodan is ok, I think he'll do alright in time when he gets use to the modding thang, but I think he became Global way too soon.
So:
Admins: Moose, IP
Global Mods: Captain Will, Ratent (I guess)
Mods: Moodle, Syphon, MillenniumArmy, Doodan, Doodle.

Finally:

I'm against Kame on this one. I never saw a reason that he shouldn't be an Administrator and plenty of reasons he should. Remember a few changes on SEN right after he became an Administrator? That's right, you guessed it, DTBK did that!

I think that the administration and moderation is near its best, and removing inactive moderators isn't an improvement, it's just an 'honor' or 'responsibility' they are not deserving.

I may have missed the personal part between Kame and IP, so I have no idea what's happening there, but I think that he deserves to be the Administrator. And there's not much we can do to stop him. He pays for the website, does the majority of work on v5 (as far as I know), and occasionally makes changes to v4 in the moderator area (though one of his latest reforms was unpopular tongue.gif).

It's impossible to take SEN away while keeping the domain if IP doesn't want us to; he could stop paying for SEN but keep to domain, so we need a new domain, and SEN will have to be remade. So don't piss IP off.
