I never said map stealing was okay... im just saying, you shouldn't worry too much about your map being stolen if you have "essence" in your map.

How about blizzard or someone make a protect program that once u protect the map. And someone tries to view the map it overloads and crashes a staredit program. Cause all the others make it so an error appears up. How about we crash staredit now. to keep them from our maps.... Or doesnt each online player have a different cd-key... blizzard could enhance it where it recognizes the creators cd-key and if the cd-key trying to access the map doesnt match the original then the map cant be accessed.
besides hackers the only problems i see with them are
group projects and if u break your old cd, and after purchasing a new one for some reason have to reinstall the game... but u can always record your old cd-key tho... ehm for the group projects im lost...
But then again we are sc and they are makin money off of warcraft so why would they do that for us

Blizzard doesn't directly support the Editor so it won't happen.

I can open Staredit without running Starcraft so basicly there is no way to tell what my cd-key is.

Blizzard is the owner of all Starcraft maps. They would not make a protector to protect the rights of the person who created it. If they would warcraft III would of come with one default.

Copied from an earlier post of mine:

Lol what a pathetic loser. Anyway I know of quite a few ways to keep maps obviously mine without interfering with the game. In SpEeDBaLL I put my name in the fog of war layer for all players, and also named switches and such after myself. Also, a trick I learned from Twip- is as soon as the map starts to use a trigger to set the mission objectives to what you use. Therefore his name will only be at the start, and not in the real game. Also put that action in a few random triggers that happen a lot. If you have a map with a lot of triggers this works quite well.

There already are programs that crash maps if you open them in StarEdit. Like here. However, that's not how they are unprotected. Unless someone finds a way to crash hex-editing programs without messeing up the map, then any map can be unprotected somehow. it's just a matter of how hard you make it to unprotect, and how much you make it a long and annoying task.

The best way to make sure your map can't be unprotected is to do this.

Open Windows Explorer
Find and select your map.
Press the delete key then press OK.

There no one will ever unprotect it.

There are many way to unprotect GuEdit.

ProEdit and SCM Protector are your best bets right now.

EDIT:

They don't support map protecting at all because you are using a 3rd Party program and they are against using 3PP.

Wth?

yea, i was kinda asleep when i posted that, let me put in sen talk

What happens if the maker of the map says that he decided to call the map "[insert your name here]'s turret defense. For all the people on battle.net know, this map could relate to someone that they made the map for. It could have Units that have names related to yours. Just Nameing the map with your name doesent really help, There are a million ways a person could say that it was their map amd they named it after that name because they felt like it.

Make More sense now?

SCM Protector?? Nevermind the fact that it doesn't protect Brood War maps. Nevermind the fact that all it does could be easily unprotected (MUCH easier than PROEdit). Nevermind the fact that PROEdit is much easier to use. Yeah, go ahead, protect it, and have some nub simply open it with SCMToolkit and save it.

I mean, I agree with PROEdit being the best, but you simply can't compare it and SCM Protector.
